I have Fedora 10, and today I finally had an opportunity to let the automatic software updates run. At the end it said to restart the pc. I restarted and now it won't connect to the network. What do I do to get it connected again?
View 5 RepliesI installed 11.04 via live install, and was connected to my home network/Internet. After the install finished and I restarted my pc, my network was not available nor internet connection. In the network manager I cannot access the "wired network" tab.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI started the upgrade to 10.4 from 9.10 through the update manager. It started the update to 10.4. After downloading almost 95% of the update, it gave an error message of "could not download certain components. downloaded files will not be erased" and stopped the update. I restarted the PC, and started the update manager again. But now it does not show any option of update to 10.4. how do I continue or resume the update process? I just started using ubuntu about 15 days back. So, I am relatively new to this.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI installed Lucid Beta a few days ago and was happy with the way everything worked. The system wanted an update on Thursday night, I installed it and then carried on using it for about an hour, it was then shutdown normally with no errors. On Friday morning it would not boot. I pressed the "on" button it came on, all the other lamps lit ie Caps and Num Lock, the battery light is on anyway, but the hard drive light is not flashing, it's as though it isn't being accessed, but I can hear it? There is no display on the screen. I'm running an Acer Aspire One. My initial thoughts are bios related, but I can't see how that would have changed, then I think maybe the Harddrive is knackered.
View 7 Replies View RelatedDoing a fresh F12 install on a Dell Vostro 430. Machine needs to have 2 Network adapters for our setup.The install seems to go just fine but the on board network adapter doesn't appear to get detected/configured. If I look in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts all I find is ifcfg-eth0 and ifcfg-lo. Looking carefully at ifcfg-eth0 I see it's the second card that I've put in the machine.As a test I removed the second network card and did another fresh install of F12. This time in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts all I have is ifcfg-lo. When I go to system>Administration>Network Device Control I see no network devices displayed.
Is this an issue others have seen with F12 or is it possible my on board network adapter has an issue?BTW I did check the BIOS to be sure that Onboard Lan was enabled and it is.output from "lspci -k " with both cards installed on machine (I only listed Ethernet controllers)
I installed Fedora 14 on my new PC but I don't have network connection. In fact, I hit the command "lspci" and the prompt return :

So, I created a ifcfg-eth0 file on /etc/sysconfig/network-script because it doesn't exist :

Then, I restart network service, but eth0 is down, no device found for the connection eth0.
After lots of searching last night I noticed that over the last couple of days there have been quite a few posts of people receiving the error: no such device lots of numbers grub rescue>. I have a dual boot vista/ubuntu setup with ubuntu on my d: drive and windows on my c: drive and it happened to me last night. So after my freaking out when I received the grub rescue> error after updating somethings in my ubuntu install and restarting. Once the computer rebooted bam! error. after much freaking it only fixed itself by reinstalling the windows bootloader via the vista rescue disk I was wondering if there was a way to prevent this from happening again? will ubuntu attempt to "update" itself again?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI ran the automatic update today and it requested a restart afterwards. After the restart, I don't have any icons on my desktop, can't open windows other than the terminal. If I try to run software from the terminal, I get the following error.

I have seen "just removed the library with an issue" or recreate the links or try to reinstall. I am running fedora 12.
I have a suspend problem in my laptop. Sometimes, when resuming from suspend, the network adapter is down (that is, the network does not work and the light of the network adapter is off). Restarting the network service doesn't work, because I think that the system forgot about the hardware, and probably the driver should be reloaded.Does anyone knows how to do that?(ps. /etc/init.d/networking restart does not work, because the hardware driver is not being recognized anymore).

A recent update has caused the KDE shutdown/restart/logout buttons (found for example through the Fedora -> Leave menu or by pressing the power off switch)to stop working. I am having to shutdown using shutdown -P now command.
So I have the following questions:
a) Has anyone else had this issue and knows a workaround/fix?
b) Does anyone know what package these belong to so I can try an older version?
c) Does anyone know where this package writes its logs, or if I need to install anything for it to do so so I can have a look?
d) Does anyone know the command-line interface to these commands - that may give me either a more gentle workaround than shutdown -P now, or some insight into why the command is no longer working.
I'm trying to install Wheezy on a Thinkpad T23. want to use Fluxbox, so during installation I uncheck the graphics options because I can install X and fluxbox later. After the install, the first time it boots up it can connect to the wired network and it will download things. But, if I reboot then it somehow loses its ability to connect to any wired network (and the T23 doesn't have built in wireless, so it obviously can't connect to wifi). there something that I can do to get ethernet back? Or, is there a way to, while I'm still on the first reboot, permanently install the ethernet drivers?I'm finally trying tmove away from Windows because a friend happened to show me his laptop which was running the free and open alternative to OneNote (Xournal) that I've been needing.

i know i can put the restart service command in the rc.local file but it not suppose to work this way.
I m not able to ping nor able to restart the services.....i dont know wht happened.its giving the error.........
Error,some other host already uses address.im having 3 ethernet cards...this is my main server of company.
If I restart the network service, not all interfaces come back up. Is this expected behaviour or does something need a kick?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed F11 on my Dell Inspiron 1501. I tried to get the Broadcom 4311 wireless card to work by following the instructions for installing the Broadcom driver from this link: [url].

I removed the broadcom-wl package and installed the autoen package from DangerMouse. After rebooting wireless works but I still get the same errors when I give the command:

I had to disable encryption on the router to connect, but I guess that's a compromise I'll have to make right now. I will work on that some more after I get these error messages straightened out:

Note that wireless does seem to be working (though without encryption) despite the error messages. And I got these same error messages with the Broadcom driver but I could not get wireless working.
I have just finished the upgrade of the latest version and I'm at the point of my system restating.
My system automatically tried to restart but on the restart I got the 'terminal' view. It stopped when asking for my username (it never normally asks for this before the grub menu) and then password. I didn't get any further than that.
I now have on my screen (still in the terminal view before the grub menu)

When using yum update, can a program have been wrongly updated (or marked updated without finishing the update)? I ask this question because I'm new to Linux and my connection stopped during a yum update and the console text was strange when I did CTRL + C. (Did it 2 times (starting the yum update and because of no more answers and pressed CTRL + C)).

I need to setup an Ubuntu Server to handle backups over the network (probably rsync over ssh). That server will then transfer the backup data offsite over a secondary external data line.How can I configure the ethernet interfaces to handle such a scenario?
View 1 Replies View RelatedCurrently my new server pc (Mobo - ASRock H97M-ITX/AC) is not connecting to the network and it seems to be due to the network card alx drivers. I have downloaded the compat drivers and backports associated with the issue in other posts and on other forums but haven't been able to get it running.
When I install a usb drive of any type to try and transfer the drivers over I get the messages "443.057769 sd 7:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write though" & "443.057769 sd 7:0:0:0: [sdb] No Caching mode page found".
I have been looking around these forums and google for the past week or so and have tried re-installing and alternative hardware etc. with no luck.
