Fedora Installation :: Update F12 Without Internet Connection?
Jan 9, 2010
I plan to install F12 (Fedora-12-i386DVD.iso) in a location where there's no Internet connection, thus I'd like to previously download the updates in order to install them once completed the installation. How can i perform this ? can I download the updates that were released after F12 launch date from somewhere ? how should I tell yum or rpm to find them ?
After a fresh installation my internet connection was working. but after yum update I am not able to connect to the internet. it is showing no internet connection.
I tried to download some software from the Ubuntu software center, and it does not download. It does not give me an error message, it just stays at 0 bytes. It eventually tells me to check my internet connection. (this does not make sense because I am using it to write this thread) I checked synaptic package manager for correct proxy settings and it was ok. I ran
Code: sudo apt-get update
but to no avail. I am using wireless, and recently dissembled the computer to disconnect the CMOS battery, but I think that it was put back together properly.
Sorry title should have been F13 installation without internet I am having a P4, 1GB ram, 80 GB machine. Since yesterday I am having some funny issues on this machine. i have fedora 12 installed on this machine. My mouse suddenly stop working, or the cursor changes from pointer type to a line cursor and basicaly the mouse just stops clicking. I am plannning to install fedora 13 on this machine. Have downloaded the 5 iso ( CD images).
Would choosing the option upgrade on existing Linux partition do the job? Is there a chance I loose my data files when the upgrade is done? I dont want to reinstall programs like java, eclipse, tomcat etc that I done in fedora 12. I only intend using the CD's as I dont have a lot of bandwidth and a fast internet connection to use yum.
I just installed Fedora 10 for the first time on my HP Pavillion desktop. Everything worked fine and I installed the first set of updates. Then I wanted to install KDE so I did that. Then it told me there were more recommended updates. After installing KDE, I started to install the updates and when I came back today the wired connection wasn't working
I just set up my computer to dual boot Windows XP Home and Fedora 10. After installation, on Windows, the internet works just fine (since I'm able to compose this message). However, the internet connection on Fedora does not work. Here are the details: I'm connected via a cable modem only. I have an Ethernet cable connecting my modem and PC. I've tried looking info up online about the issue and many people say to do an ifconfig -a to get the MAC Address and so forth. How to get the connection working to use the internet with Fedora?
I have Fedora 14 installed on my s/m with the default gnome desktop environment. Now, I want to install some KDE applications which I found to be very useful. I want to install KDE from fedora 14 DVD as my internet connection is very slow. It was a failure when I tried pointing the yum.repos.d/fedora.repo file to DVD to install using yum. Should I create a repository like what we do in RHEL to configure yum server(How to do it in fedora ???) Or is there any other method to install KDE repository on my system.
I install fedora 10. But I don't have internet connection, when I Run add or remove software nothing listed and I couldn't remove any package. And when I want to add any rpm package, my fedora does't install that. How can I add or remove software in fedora without internet connection.
I have Fedora 10, and today I finally had an opportunity to let the automatic software updates run. At the end it said to restart the pc. I restarted and now it won't connect to the network. What do I do to get it connected again?
I've been running 10.04 since it came out basically and my internet connection has been fine. After I got the last set of updates that came up on the update manager (which if I remember mainly contained an updated version of the latest kernel and a couple other files) my internet connection speed went from a decent browsing speed and file transfer speeds between 80-200kbps to an almost dialup browsing speed to file transfer speeds of a about 7.5kbps its very significant and very annoying it took 20 minutes just to make this post.
Also I've already tried changing my ipv6 settings.
I am an ubuntu user, and i have a problem ,since a couple of days i cannot conect to the internet in my home, i am a student an i live on campus, every time that i try to conect my computer from my linux partition the internet browser (every web browser, i have tried, explorer, chrome, chrominium, firefox and epiphany)show an error, it say that i need an upgrade for my web browser and ask me to download a file named as update.exe.But in my windows partition everithing goes perfect, even if i use the wireless conection from my college ubuntu doesnot show this problem.
if I can update the OS (new security updates, patches etc also) on a system that ain't having any internet connection. Simply i would like to know if there is any packs like rpm/ tar files available, so that we can install the updates easily..I am using opensuse..
Is it possible to update Mandriva, not using a live internet connection. I'm wondering if i can update Mandriva offline or it is possible to save the my current PC updates and install it when i plan to reinstall my distro?
Not sure this right place for this. After updating from Ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10 lost internet connection - was instantaneous loss. Wired connection computer to router. Icon on computer shows "wired connection 'auto Eth0'active" The router shows line connected ok. Computer shows connection is established. Connection information menu shows details such as IP address broadcast address and other details. Where do I go from here to reconnect to internet.
AMD 64 Upgrade to testing last night killed my internet connection. The lan works, I can ping the dns server from my IP, however no mail, browser possible. Is something in testing broken again?
I've been connecting to the Internet via Ubuntu 8.10 on my Toshiba laptop fine for ages now, but today it has stopped working. Yesterday an update came through relating to DHCP and, like all other updates, I installed it. And now my laptop can see the wireless router but it cannot connect to the Internet. (As I always install the recommended Ubuntu updates I didn't look closely at exactly what the update said, but I did see DHCP in the title, so this is why I suspect my connection is now broken.) Or can anyone tell me how to undo yesterday's update? I really wish now that Ubuntu had a utility similar to Windows System Restore.
i'm realatively new to linux am just getting my head around the command line, any way my problem today is, my network connection and networkmanger program have been deleted/uninstalled after i did a system update. im running ubuntu 10.04 32 bit. I have run of some commands which should be able to tell you whats going on. at the moment i'm using a live ubuntu cd to gain net access.
so the question is How do i restore my network connection and get my networkmanager program back without a internet connection. (i can download stuff to a memory stick and do manual install) Hope someone can shed some light on this, i know this topic has been covered before although each case seems slightly different to mine.
I got an update notification from update manager just now and tried to update (internet working perfectly) but before it finishes downloading it gives an error of "check internet connection" constantly
I am running Ubuntu 10.10, and I would like to use my computer to share the internet connection from an ethernet port. For example, I would like to set up my computer as a wireless access point so I can create a network that other computers can connect to for internet.
I recently bougt an Asus N61DA with Windows 7. I decided to install Ubuntu alongside Windows, so I made the Ubuntu CD, just like it said. Then I inserted the CD and restarted the computer. I started the installer (ubuntu 10.10 64-bit) and chose the option where it says "install ubuntu alongside other operating systems", or something like that. So, the installation started, but then I lost the internet connection, and the installation stopped.I re-connected the computer, but the installation still wouldn't continue. I restarted the computer and then nothing happened. I've restarted it several times, but still nothing happens. I've inserted the Windows recovery CD, but it doesn't work
Version 11.2 worked all right. After installation of 11.3 the internet can no longer be reached. I formatted the system partition but not the home partition. Here is the shortened output of the script netinfo:
Code: Linux kernel: Linux 2.6.34-12-desktop x86_64 LSB Version:n/a
Luckily I have a second machine running 9.10 and could get onto the net for assistance.
I tried all sorts of modifications to sysctl, modeprobe files, etc and checked all over google for a fix.
It appears that the IPv6 settings are part of the kernel, in this case I am going back to 9.10 and staying with 9.10 until this IPv6 is sorted out. Most home routers do not have IPv6 connections, only IPv4. This lack of Internet connection has happened with both server and desktop. I do not know the reasoning behind this decision but I will not be upgrading to 10 until IPv6 is sorted for me as a home user.
Able to boot with different partitions of a 320 GB hard drive with Windows Server 2008, Ubuntu server 9.10 plus Ubuntu desktop 9.10 but IPv6 with 10.10 installs on the respective server and desktop partitions does not allow a lan connection to the router. All are 64bit downloads.

I'm a pretty new ubuntu user and I've just upgraded from 10.10. It seems to be working pretty well, except that I can't figure out how to connect to the Internet. When I click the wireless icon to try to connect, the drop down menu is as follows:
I have just installed ubuntu 10.10 on an Acer Aspire 3610 notebook. 2 GB RAM. This notebook had Internet access previously via Windows XP (now erased). Here is the partitioned drive. Two ext4 partitions for ubuntu "/" and "/home". Two ntfs partitions possibly for Windows. I have booted up the fresh installation of ubuntu 10.10. I had some glitch where I saw "Operating system not found' on booting from HDD and I wondered if this was due to failing drive.
But I've run a full test using Disk Utility and it shows as healthy. This message has gone away (I don't know why) and I can boot into ubuntu. The problem I'm trying to solve is simply no internet connection. Here are some outputs from commands ..
