i've installed 9.10 today on my dell studio 1558. and with the new release of 10.4 i want to update my ubuntu but it say
Error: No Internet connection (although I've connected threw wifi + cable)
then goes onto say: Cant download relevant package information
I tried to download some software from the Ubuntu software center, and it does not download. It does not give me an error message, it just stays at 0 bytes. It eventually tells me to check my internet connection. (this does not make sense because I am using it to write this thread) I checked synaptic package manager for correct proxy settings and it was ok. I ran

but to no avail. I am using wireless, and recently dissembled the computer to disconnect the CMOS battery, but I think that it was put back together properly.
I plan to install F12 (Fedora-12-i386DVD.iso) in a location where there's no Internet connection, thus I'd like to previously download the updates in order to install them once completed the installation. How can i perform this ? can I download the updates that were released after F12 launch date from somewhere ? how should I tell yum or rpm to find them ?

I plugged the internet cable into the router, connected computer to wireless network, created a new broadband connection using login and password given by the provider, and internet connection worked. I want eventually to have the same on Kubuntu.

I want to have the same thing on Kubuntu, but before that I want to be able to have at least the direct cable connection working. Had no problems setting it up on Puppy Linux, but fail in Kubuntu. Wireless connection with the router is no problem, it worked right away.
After plugging the internet cable to the network card I have this:[url] I tried to set up new wired and dsl (not sure which I need, probably DSL as it has the login and password) connections in the Network Connections window but nothing works.

I then checked if I'm using some inappropriate proxy settings, and everywhere it's all set up to connect to the net directly, which is, well, my setup.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOk. Using Release 12 Constantine Gnome 2.28. Whenever I try to update my computer via de Software Update Manager that pops up every now and then I get an error and the Software Update fails.
The error says its a repository not found, but I am very new at this and have no clue as to where to fix this. Alongside of this, is the fact that since one of the updates is failing, the rest don't install either. So the updates keep on piling.

After a power cycle I get the grub boot menu but after that a blank screen and then nothing
The PC is a triple boot with Windows XP and Slackware. I can still boot into Windows.
I tried to update Linux kernel (2.6.39) but after installation procedure PC won't boot into NEW kernel, I get only BLANK screen, but hopefully older kernel works just fine (2.6.38-9), how to fix it, that I can fluently boot into 2.6.39?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been running 10.04 since it came out basically and my internet connection has been fine. After I got the last set of updates that came up on the update manager (which if I remember mainly contained an updated version of the latest kernel and a couple other files) my internet connection speed went from a decent browsing speed and file transfer speeds between 80-200kbps to an almost dialup browsing speed to file transfer speeds of a about 7.5kbps its very significant and very annoying it took 20 minutes just to make this post.
Also I've already tried changing my ipv6 settings.
I am an ubuntu user, and i have a problem ,since a couple of days i cannot conect to the internet in my home, i am a student an i live on campus, every time that i try to conect my computer from my linux partition the internet browser (every web browser, i have tried, explorer, chrome, chrominium,firefox and epiphany)show an error, it say that i need an upgrade for my web browser and ask me to download a file named as update.exe.But in my windows partition everithing goes perfect, even if i use the wireless conection from my college ubuntu doesnot show this problem.

Icon on computer shows "wired connection 'auto Eth0'active" The router shows line connected ok. Computer shows connection is established. Connection information menu shows details such as IP address broadcast address and other details. Where do I go from here to reconnect to internet.

Yesterday an update came through relating to DHCP and, like all other updates, I installed it. And now my laptop can see the wireless router but it cannot connect to the Internet. (As I always install the recommended Ubuntu updates I didn't look closely at exactly what the update said, but I did see DHCP in the title, so this is why I suspect my connection is now broken.) Or can anyone tell me how to undo yesterday's update? I really wish now that Ubuntu had a utility similar to Windows System Restore.

I have run of some commands which should be able to tell you whats going on. at the moment i'm using a live ubuntu cd to gain net access.
so the question is How do i restore my network connection and get my networkmanager program back without a internet connection. (i can download stuff to a memory stick and do manual install) Hope someone can shed some light on this, i know this topic has been covered before although each case seems slightly different to mine.
