View 1 RepliesI find it not easy to install free (even open source) softwares. I downloaded CELTX on celtx.com but still have difficulties to install it as other installed softwares in Ubuntu; even after I read few guides in Internet about how installing software in Ubuntu.
P.S: I wonder why developers don't make it easier with a setup.exe file like in windows
I have a computer that doesn't boot from CDROM is there an alternate way to install Fedora 10 livecd
View 3 Replies View RelatedA few weeks ago I jumped into Ubuntu by installing 10.04 on an old PC. All was working fine until today. I have been trying things all do to fix this. When I try to install from the software center, nothing happens. Nothing! It worked fine before. I did an update early today. I have even updated one new update late today. But the software center will not install anything. The install button goes grey for about a second, then back to normal.
I went to System, Administration, Software Sources, Other Sources (tab), clicked partner - to rebuild the package info. That did not change anything. I am not sure how to update to 10.10 since I am new to Linux.
I want to restore my ubuntu as i install(something the restore in Hp pcs). How can i do that ?It can happend in Linux? i tried the recovery in grub but nothing happens...

We will start off with XMMS. We'll take the plugin later..
First you need to update your packages list

I know this can be a touchy subject but I would like to find MP3 support for K3b & Xmms, I am a big fan of the Banshee music player and have used it with MP3 support provided by FLUENDO [url] in many Linux distro's. I can play mp3s in Banshee thanks to FLUENDO, however when I open k3d or Xmms I am presented with an opening message that an mp3 plug-in for those apps cannot be found. Can anyone suggest any packages that will enable mp3 support in these applications?

How I install XMMS on Debian Squeeze???
I've recently upgraded to Fedora 15 after a failed Fedora 11-12 upgrade (luckily all my data is on a seperate drive!) and have been re-installing all the applications i had before. One strange problem i've come across is with XMMS. When it gets to the end of a song it wont move onto the next one. I've tried checking and unchecking the 'No Playlist Advance' option and it has made no difference. I tried changing the output from ALSA to OSS but that didn't even play the tracks so i switched back.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am looking for xmms-mp3 and lame rpms for FC12. where can i get those packages ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using xmms to play mp3 files from machine. Whenever I play a file, the first second or two of the file start very loud and then goes down to a steady volume. I am using alsamixer as the volume controller with software volume control (although switching to wave doesn't make any difference).
My sound card is Soundblaster Audigy 4. I had the same card on my old system and I can't remember it doing it on that so I am assuming it's a software issue... Audacious works fine but I prefer xmms as the equalizer refuses to "stick" to the main window in audacious!!
When I want to play a flac-file, I've used always Audacious on my slackware64 13.0-pc because xmms doesn't work with that filetype.
Now I've installed slackware 13.1 on an 2nd pc and there I can play flac-files in xmms.
What do I have to do to enable xmms on my slackware64 13,0-pc to play there flac-files with xmms also?

Tri-booting. They were installed in the order I listed above. I ran into a few bugs with Kubuntu, so I no longer want to use it. I want to use GParted on a LiveCD to format Kubuntu and expand my Ubuntu home partition to sit on top of Kubuntu's space right now. If I nuke Kubuntu, will Grub still exist with my Ubuntu/XP entries to boot?
I have squeeze installed but streamtuner closes every time I want to play a stream. Even when I change from xmms to audacious2 the later does not stay, it changes back to xmms.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI`m using Fedora 11. I just bought a Creative Audigy Soundblaster sound card. It is recognized by the system, but I can`t make it play sound on all channels in xmms or mplayer. The alsa test confirms that all channels are working - I can hear sound from all of them. I have read several posts in other forums about modifying my ./asoundrc, but they just don`t seem to work.
View 3 Replies View Relatedhow to install xmms player on suse 11.2(i586)?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI Currently have the problem of not being able to install xmms on suse 11.3, apparently since there's no way to install it from the packman repos because xmms claims it's missing glib 1.22 -oh yeah that one. But since it worked like a charm on 11.2 i'm just wondering if the glib, gtk, and gdk rpms will be present in the future or have i just missed something. I've tried to compile gtk 1.2 and above on 11.3 but since it is a 64bit system it do not comply with my request.Output from glib-1.2.2 and 1.2.10

checking build system type... Invalid configuration `x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu': machine `x86_64-unknown' not recognized
and what's missing for xmms

If anyone could give me a tip on how to compile the old 32bit gtk libs on a brand new 64bit system would be much appreciated. Or if there is an even simpler way please tell i.e if there is any repos hosting what i need. Greets
I just installed XMMS and I want to create a shortcut on the desktop to run it. I found a how-to video for creating shortcuts so I have the gist of it (I was able to create one for Firefox) but I don't know where to find the executable file for XMMS to do the same. I just don't know enough about Linux's file structure to know where to look.
View 2 Replies View RelatedCanon MX320, MX330, MX860 printer installation on Kubuntu Lucid 10.04 AMD64 bit. I am sure Ubuntu Lucid is similar. Once I upgraded to Lucid 10.04 AMD64 bit I found that getting a Canon Pixma MX printer installed was not going to be easy. So I thought it help others if I posted my experience here. To pull this off you will need both the Debian package, (.deb), and the source package from either
Canon Europe: [URL]... Or Canon Australia: [URL]... NOTE: The only reason to get the source is to access the ppd files. They are in the Debian package but it is a lot more work to walk newbies through unpacking the .deb. Since there are errors in the source code it makes impossible to compile a driver. Therefore, you will need to install the 32bit Debian package and force the architecture, then add the correct printer driver from the ppd file in the source package. While these instructions worked for me there are a few assumption I make which mat affect your outcome. My MX860 has a wireless network connection.
In other words I have no idea if this will or will not work on a USB attached printer. (If someone would be kind enough to post back if they get that configuration working that would be cool.) The other assumption is that the general reader is relatively new to Lunix and the command line interface. The commands were cut and pasted from my working kconsole, so they should work for anyone. Here we go:........
After the upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04 resulted in a black screen after reboot, I decided to don't waste more time, backed up my data and made a fresh installation.
First Issue [solved]: After I inserted the Kubuntu 10.04 Live-CD and started the system, I got to the CD's boot-mode selection menu. When I selected "Install Kubuntu", I got the Kubuntu bootscreen, but the system hang up then. I was able to solve this problem through pressing F6 in the boot-mode selection menu and setting "nomodeset". I also had to remove "quit splash" from the boot-entry line. Afterwards the installation process was fine.
Second Issue: I wanted to boot my new installated system, but, off course, got the blank screen again. So I edited the Grub-entry for recovery mode in the grubmenu (replaced "quit splash" with "nomodeset") and booted into recovery mode. I selected "netroot", and installed the proprietary nvidia-drivers with "apt-get install nvidia-current". Afterwards I ran "nvidia-xconfig" to generate the xorg.conf. To solve the blank screen issue, I edited the /boot/grub/grub.cfg the same way I described above and rebooted. Now I don't get a blank screen anymore, but I also don't get an XServer. The system boots now (off course without splash and "unquit"), but drops me into the tty1... When I type "sudo service kdm start", I get into KDM and can login, but I get many errors and crash-reports there. I also don't have any internet. I only have internet when booting in recovery mode and select "netroot".
I'm a bit surprised that Ubuntu released a LTS-Version that causes so much trouble (I've searched the forum and it seems that I'm not the only one with such big problems). Has Ubuntu droped support for NVidia-users?
I want to configure xmms music player in my linux, but it didn't run 'xmms &' command, gives output like 'unable to show display'.

I would like to apply KDE on my Kubuntu because the current one blew up. But each time I to sudo get-apt it seems to be fetching from the cloud. Is there a way I can make it to read from my local Kubuntu CD? I have both Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and Kubuntu Live CDs.
I believe the local disk read should be faster to translate than to bite the bytes across thousands of miles over the wire right?
