Ubuntu :: Cannot Intall Using Software Center - 10.04?
Apr 15, 2011
A few weeks ago I jumped into Ubuntu by installing 10.04 on an old PC. All was working fine until today. I have been trying things all do to fix this. When I try to install from the software center, nothing happens. Nothing! It worked fine before. I did an update early today. I have even updated one new update late today. But the software center will not install anything. The install button goes grey for about a second, then back to normal.
I went to System, Administration, Software Sources, Other Sources (tab), clicked partner - to rebuild the package info. That did not change anything. I am not sure how to update to 10.10 since I am new to Linux.
I find it not easy to install free (even open source) softwares. I downloaded CELTX on celtx.com but still have difficulties to install it as other installed softwares in Ubuntu; even after I read few guides in Internet about how installing software in Ubuntu.
P.S: I wonder why developers don't make it easier with a setup.exe file like in windows
I want to restore my ubuntu as i install(something the restore in Hp pcs). How can i do that ?It can happend in Linux? i tried the recovery in grub but nothing happens...
We have purchased Hp Proliant DL 380 G6 server after Raid 5 configuratin when i boot server from fedora or redhat bootable cd and i select "install fedora", after this installation cd is not able to detect hard drive or not able to copy required file in server.

I experimented with Mac4Lin over the weekend, and as much as I liked it, I decided (like I do most anything) to eventually revert back to the normal interface. The problem is, this has left me entirely unable to read any text in the Ubuntu Software Center, or in some dropdown menus (the "Prefix" dropdown menu for this post is unreadable). Included is a screenshot of what the Software Center looks like. I've already tried rebooting and uninstalling/reinstalling the software center with no luck. I can only assume there's a font setting somewhere that I need to tweak, but I can't find it at all. I'm running 10.04.
I have 10.04 that I have downloaded. Heres the problems I cant get my wifi driver to work it doesn't download. I cant download flash player or the flash player installer. My Ubuntu software center wont come up.
I just installed 10.04 and things are working alright for the most part. My main problem is that the Software Center cannot seem to connect to the internet. It gets to 5% and stops, after a few minutes it says it "cannot connect, check your internet connection".
I am online posting this right now and I have no troubles downloading packages manually, but I would prefer to use the handy-dandy center. Any insight into this would be lovely. I'm pretty new to Ubuntu, and I just haven't encountered this before.
I have installet ubuntu lucid and it works fine. After the installation of other user software like keepass and truecrypt, the software-center utility doesn't start. I start it but the process start and after few second it exit from top utility. No screen output it doesn't start. I tried to start in terminal and receive this log: Traceback (most recent call last) code...
If something in the ubuntu software center is out of date who do we notify? I just installed exaile from the ubuntu software center and it is out of date. I just created a few hundred playlist and am afraid to uninstall it and install the latest version via exaile software repo so when will the ubuntu software center version be updated?
I am having issues launching the Ubuntu Software Center. I click it and it appears to start, but a window never comes up. I would like to either uninstall it and reinstall it or start it from the terminal.
Just installed 10.10. Notice Software Center is seen at bottom of Applications. It seems to load, but after a bit it quits. I removed it with Synaptic, and reinstalled. Same problem. All normal updates have been installed.
Everytime I try installing or uninstalling a program in the software center, it gives me this error
Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/aptdaemon/worker.py", line 768, in simulate return self._simulate_helper(trans, status_path) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/aptdaemon/worker.py", line 938, in _simulate_helper return depends, status, self._cache.required_download, File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/apt/cache.py", line 218, in required_download pm.get_archives(fetcher, self._list, self._records) SystemError: E:I wasn't able to locate file for the ttf-mscorefonts-installer package.
I seem to have broken the Ubuntu Software Center by adding the Linux Mint repositories and installing the mint-menu package. When I click on Ubuntu Software Center it changes my cursor and shows it in the windows list for about 10 seconds like it is going to open but never does. I tried removing the mint-menu package and all of the mint packages, I reinstalled software-center andall of the ubuntu keyring packages. Still not able to open the software center.
I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on an older Biostar IDEQ 200N SFF computer for my son. I am by no means a linux expert and I am having a problem I can't seem to resolve on my own. I am using a CRT monitor, and the image on the screen is not aligned properly with the monitor. Everything seems shifted down about a quarter of an inch or less. Even the usual click areas are no right. What I mean that is order to click on a link or icon, you actually have to click slightly above it. I know the CRT monitor has screen adjustment controls, but this seems to be linux or hardware related. I have tried changing the resolution, and for a brief second after I change the res it does seem to correct the problem, but before I can even tell it to use the new settings, it shifts itself back down. What can I do? Do I need to install different drivers or something else?
i could really do with some help, basically every package is seen as untrusted and it is stopping me from upgrading or updating, and to install packages i have to do it from apt-get and say that i trust the source.
I've already tried reinstalling it and all of the Python packages from Synaptic. (See, I did my homework! )Here's the terminal output I get trying to start it:
I have just install 10.10 on my computer, and i can't open ubuntu software center. when i click on it, i see it n task bar, mouse start to roll, but then nothing happens. I've tried to install skype also, same thing.
I believe I have deleted a dependency package to Ubuntu Software Center for 10.10. I just don't know how to fix it. When I try to launch the program from the terminal I get a bus error, I've tried removing and reinstalling it, but this does not solve it. Any one have ideas of how to fix this (other than just reinstalling ubuntu)?
I have a weird problem...I just can't access Ubuntu Software Center! when i click on it, I just keep seeing the cirle running....but it never loads! no differences being online or not....
