Fedora :: Install Driver Again After Upgrade To F11 From F10?
Aug 13, 2009
As we know , ATI video card driver is not available for Fedora 11 but available for Fedora 10.
So , if I installed ATI video card driver successfully in Fedora 10 and upgraded Fedora 10 to Fedora 11 using the CD which comes from fedoraproject.org - the official site, should I install the Video Card Driver again?

I've been running OpenSuSE 11.2 for some time now; my system is a Dell 64-bit with an ATI 46xx graphics card and I've used the proprietary ATI driver without difficulty, as the driver provided with OpenSuSE was pretty much unusable. I'm considering upgrading to v11.3, but there seem to be scattered horror stories involving ATI cards, particularly when it comes to ATI's proprietary driver.

I installed printer drivers from a deb package and now I can't install/update anything!! I get this error:
jordan@jordan-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get install gtk-recordmydesktop
[sudo] password for jordan:
Sorry, try again.
[sudo] password for jordan:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
gtk-recordmydesktop: Depends: recordmydesktop (>= 0.3. but it is not going to be installed
pstocanonbj: Depends: libcupsys2 (>= 1.2.3)
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).
Why is this 1 error tying up the entire install system?

I did an upgrade of Nvidia(Latest version v.196) and KDE-base4 to KDE 4.4.4(I think) in Yast2. Now when I reboot the X doesnt start. I claim it can't find any nvidia-module. I thing the upgrade of Nvidia v.196 failed, so I need to know how to reinstall Nvidia in console(CLI). It only boot up in cli. I thought it is so simple to just download the latest driver and install in CLI, but my NetworkManager doesnt start eighter so I don't have any network.
OpenSUSE 11.2 64bits
KDE 4.4.x
Nvidia NV140 Quadro 512MB
I guess my mistake was to upgrade both KDE and Nvidia in the same operation.

Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit

Rhythmbox crashed and my radio stations disappeared. I'm not sure if this bears any relation.

This post is for an HP parallel printer but I think it should work for at least "some" other parallel printers.I am sure that someone smarter than me will follow up this post with a "well, just do this and that" and you will have your HP Laserjet 6P printer ready to go, but since questions litter the forums of MANY distros on how to get "at least" an HP parallel printer to work, I'll post this anyway. This may or may not work for you if you do not have an HP but you can try it.The install printer box will let you do an install for an HP Parallel and it asks for how it is to talk to it, through CUPS sock or "local host'. When we get through what I recommend you should chose "local host".

I'm somewhat new to Fedora but not Linux in general. I went to install the nvidia driver as per any instructions I found on the internet that yielded results. I typed sudo yum install kmod-nvidia and eventually got a driver, blacklisted nouveau, restarted, and finally got compiz and all my desktop effects.
The problem was when I played Minecraft, which for those who don't know is a game, from a .jar file. After ~5 minutes of playing something happens and everything freezes. Video completely stops but I still have mouse control and sound(at least for anything already running). Clicking stuff does nothing and no hotkeys work to bring up anything at all. I end up having to do a reset by hand to get anything done. Turning off desktop effects didn't help.
Why is this? Did I install the wrong driver, even though kmod-nvidia should find the right one on it's own? nvidia 8800 GT is my card. Could it be the java program screwing things up royally? I can't remember if the program worked fine on it's own before the driver install, but uninstalling the driver now causes the game to fail on launch, which I guess makes sense but can't figure out if it's simply the lack of driver or if removing the driver screwed something else up. I might just reinstall fedora and start from scratch again, but before I did that I wanted to find out if I'm just installing the wrong driver and can simply find teh right one to fix all of this.

I am running Fedora 10 on a Gateway Machine. I tried to install the corresponding drivers for acceleration but it seems to have broken the display. After the loading splash screen, the screen goes black and does not respond to anything. I did manage to see the Grub boot loader by pressing 3 a number of times while booting the machine. Any ideas for how to revert the computer to its normal display so i can try again at getting these drivers working. It is a tad bit annoying not having a display but hell, this distro is already as far as I can see 10x as good as Ubuntu.

I try to configurate a POS-System (Point of Sale - i hope pay desk is the right english word for it). The System is a BattleNetX and a Touch-Display (BA73-A) from the concern named Wincore Nixdorf (Germany). Currently, I try to install the driver for the Touchpanel on Fedora Core (12 I hope, but it can [edit: i mean can not] be important because the driver is older than FC12 ). Because, I am not the Linux adept, I work contiguous on the manual[1]. Now, I have a problem by a step. I must compile a adjust driver for the Kernel. But 'make' give me everytime a error. UPDATE 8/28/2009: I now recommend that people install the new packages instead of the manual instructions below, see this link:http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=155503 (Howto for fglrx/catalyst (Ati driver) and Compiz-fusion)NOTE: After installing the packages, I had to do the things at the following link to make the above packages work:http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showpo...postcount=3564If you still want to install the driver manually (you do not need to if you install the packages above), the instructions are below:

for more than 5 months i've been trying to install my nvidia G105M driver on fedora 11 without any results but the famous 6 little screens.
i've even megrated to ubuntu cause the've overrided this problem with modifying the xorg file...and it worked like a charm also with opensuse
now when i tried to use this same method with fedora 12 (which i've been waiting for for about a year..as i hated fedora 11) i can't even see the 6 screens...no GUI..
i don't really like ubuntu that much...actually i prefer fedora over any other distro..

How can I install Samsung's ML-1710 printer driver? I've already tried using Samsung's "Unified Linux Driver" from their website. Unfortunately, it does not work; while the installation program claims to "install" the needed driver, all attempts (including local) to print using that ML-1710 printer & printer driver set fail.
It's noteworthy that I can print on the ML-1710 printer, over the network, from both windows and other Linux (Ubuntu) workstations.
