My graphic output is not that nice. How do I find out what kind of driver Centos is using? Can I fine-tune its performance? I tried to install the driver(NVIDIA-Linux-x86-185.18.36-pkg1) from NVIDIA website but it failed. I got the following log file.

Debian Configuration :: Wrong Graphic Driver After Upgrade

Oct 6, 2015

Today I fresh installed the latest stable version of debian (jessie) with gnome from the USB DVD image for a 64bit machine. Everything got fine except the graphic driver, I think.

Now Gnome 3 is running but graphic is super slow. My previous debian/gnome 3 ran much better and I think there is a problem with the graphic driver.

I'm on an thinkpad t61.

Processor: Intel Core2 Duo CPU T7500 @ 2.20GHz × 2
Ram: 4GB
Graphic: VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (primary) (rev 0c)

Now the graphic is: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.5, 128 bits) which is likely wrong. If I'm not mistaken llvmpipe is pure slow software acceleration.

Moreover this was different on my previous debian (wheezy), which was faster. Anyway I don't know what " Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.5, 128 bits) " is and it was for sure different in wheezy.

According to apt-get I have the latest intel graphic divers installed. So maybe this an X-org confic problem?

I need to mention that I updated my system to the latest software updates. Anyway, after I installed the driver (which it seems it was wrong for my VGA), the system currently arrive to a step in booting which it's : Starting apt [ok]. Fedora :: Nvidia (GeForce Go 7900 GTX) Driver Install Ok But No GLX Visual

Feb 11, 2010

I've enjoyed accelerated 3d graphics for years with this laptop, but since moving from CentOS 5.3 to FC12 I have had no 3d or opengl working at all.My install seems good. I'm running right now with the 'nvidia' driver in 1920x1200 res with no real problems except the lack of 3d. I have just finished trawling the forums again, coming back to: F12,F11 & F10 Nvidia driver guides [URL] I uninstalled all my nvidia packages, re-installed only "kmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686" and dependencies, ensured 'nvidia' was my selected driver in xorg.conf (using nvidia-config-display disable, then enable), and rebooted, and still no joy. No errors in Xorg.0.log. My 'glx' extension is loaded. 'nouveau' is rdblacklisted. SELinux is disabled. I have 3Gb RAM and so have chosen not to use the PAE kernel or modules.

Code:

[neek@uberneek ~]$ glxinfo

Hardware :: Unable To Use NVidia Driver For GeForce 9200 In Fedora 13

Sep 29, 2010

In Fedora 13 with the kernel version of 2.6.34.7-56.fc13.x86_64, the NVidia driver of the version 256.53 was installed from rpmfusion repository. Everything works fine except for one problem: the brightness cannot be controlled from the power management programs in either KDE or Gnome. In Gnome, the scroll bar of brightness disappears, and, in KDE, the scroll bar cannot be dragged.

Since the computer with Fedora 13 and NVidia driver installed is Dell Studio One 19 (All-in-One computer) which has no hardware buttons to control screen display options at all, there is no other way to adjust the brightness of computer screen. The BIOS of the computer doesn't include an option to adjust screen brightness either. Since screen brightness is set at the maximum level when the computer is turned on, it is not possible to continue using the computer for a continuous period of time due to eyesight protection. Strangely enough, both the Nouveau driver included in xorg-x11-drv-nouveau 0.0.16-8.20100423git13c1043 from Xorg 7.4 and the driver included in the mesa-dri-drivers-experimental 7.8.1 support brightness adjustment without any glitches.

Fedora :: Boot Network Error After Graphic Driver Install

Mar 31, 2011

I tried to install the nvidia driver using yum. I had the nouveau graphic driver installed. I didn't follow any tutorial I just installed the nvidia driver over the installed one. Thinking that yum would take care of everything for me. When I rebooted I get as far as "registering binary handler for windows applications" I can still log on using alt+f2 and mount the file system using chroot but I cannot get any network access. When I use netstat -nr nothing is configured. I can't ping my router or any other computer on the network.I figure I should disable the nouveau driver and try to use the nvidia tutorial by leigh123linux to get the desktoop up again but I need net access to do that.I have no idea how to get that done. I have tried, ifdown/ifup, /etc/init.d/networks restart, service network stop/start/restart, ifconfig eth0.

Fedora :: Graphic And Networking After Kernel Upgrade?

Sep 16, 2010

after upgrading to kernel 2.6.34.6 I have two issues which I don't know how to solve. First and more important is an issue with boot process. The boot is ok until it is supposed to switch to gnome desktop. Then suddenly the graphics become a weird line pattern with no discernible features. Only a rectangle which moves upon moving the mouse. This can be resolved by switching to a console, logging in there and killing the gnome-session. (with kill -9) Then, instantly the desktop appears as usual, the background is loaded, the panels come up and all seems well.

I have no clue what causes this. I thought there's a display driver problem but since I can actually get back to the normal graphics state I'm confused. Also glxinfo says:

Code:
[Me@Plato ~]$ glxinfo | grep render
direct rendering: Yes
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R600 (RV620 95C4) 20090101 TCL DRI2

Secondly the nm-applet doesn't work until restartet. Normally I expect to see an authorization request window, prompting for my passwd to start wireless networking, and the little icon in the panel. Both don't show up until I kill the nm-applet process and restart it. After I do this everything is back to normal and working as expected.

I assume if problem one is solved, two won't be a problem anymore because I expect the password dialog hidden somewhere in the background when the graphics is all garbled..

Edit: Failed to mention thath my graphics card is ATI3470 as shown in the signature...

Fedora :: Hardware - GeForce 4 MX440 Vs GeForce FX5200

Aug 28, 2010

Today I received as a gift a 5 years old Gateway 500X CPU which is apparently dead due to a faulty motherboard (I still have to troubleshoot it, of course).

Even in the cause I can fix it, odds are I'll prefer to make the aforementioned CPU a donor for my other machines, instead of resurrecting an old Pentium 4 (no HT) system.

Being this the case I checked the parts for possible transplants:

512MB DDR PC2700 memory module (useful right off the shelf for my main desktop system).
120GB Maxtor IDE hard drive (also useful, assuming it is in working order).
128MB AGP8X NVIDIA GeForce4 MX440 graphics card.

On this last part (the graphics card) I have my doubts as of where to use it. My main desktop system already has an NVIDIA card: FX5200, 128MB, which is newer. The thing is that I've been doing some homework comparing both the MX440 and the FX5200 and get mixed opinions: for one thing the FX5200 is the latest of the two with some advantages like support for a later DirectX (which for Linux is pointless) and other things, but the FX5200 is also reported to be technically inferior to the MX440.

In your opinion/experience which card is a better performer? Should I expect a performance gain if I were to replace the FX5200 with the MX440?

Slackware :: Way To Use Graphic Driver In Framebuffer

Apr 29, 2011

I've just installed Slackware 13.37 x64.Right now, everything is fine! All hardware OK, sound OK, Network/WiFi OK, nVIDIA Proprietary drivers OK, KDE Composite OK, Desktop effects OK.But when initializing, the messages pass very slow!My lilo framebuffer settings are 1024x768x64 (Code 791, 317 in Hex), my Graphics card is an nVIDIA GeForce 9100 M G (256Mb), but yet, I can see it refreshing like an image loading in 56Kbps connection.
I really would like to use framebuffer during boot (Oh, come on... The little penguin is kinda neat :-), so I'll ask... Is there a way to use my graphic driver in framebuffer, or make it faster?

Fedora Installation :: 13 - Raid0 - Graphic Card Or Something Else

Oct 11, 2010

I've already got two installs without much problems.. one on my laptop and another fedora13 install on an older comp just to test it a bit before installing it on my main comp. But now I've got a problem. Both those install went without problems but when I started installation on my main comp first I've noticed some graphic problems when there is installation started and there is mouse and fedora 13 welcome installation screen. there are some like glitches or something no idea how to describe them.. like bad pixels in small upper part of the screen. But ignoring that everything went OK up to the part where I can choose a standard discs or non starts like sans and stuff..

When I choose standard disc installation just freeze there. No idea what is happening. Only this that came across my mind is that there is a problem with raid maybe? There are 2x640Gb HDD in raid0, there is win7 installed, and another 1Tb HDD, non-raid member disk, where I would like to install Fedora and have a dual boot. Still got programs that I need win for I'm afraid. Installation went smooth on laptop and another comp but there is no raid so I'm guessing that could be a problem. This comp where installation froze is in short:
