result of lspci is as follows:"VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 PRO] (rev 01)"

This post is for an HP parallel printer but I think it should work for at least "some" other parallel printers.I am sure that someone smarter than me will follow up this post with a "well, just do this and that" and you will have your HP Laserjet 6P printer ready to go, but since questions litter the forums of MANY distros on how to get "at least" an HP parallel printer to work, I'll post this anyway. This may or may not work for you if you do not have an HP but you can try it.The install printer box will let you do an install for an HP Parallel and it asks for how it is to talk to it, through CUPS sock or "local host'. When we get through what I recommend you should chose "local host".
i am using Linux Fedora 12. I have the code i think i need, But i need the step by step instructions on how to do it. Any advice is a huge leap in the right direction. Btw, Im installing a logitech c525 Web cam.
As we know , ATI video card driver is not available for Fedora 11 but available for Fedora 10. So , if I installed ATI video card driver successfully in Fedora 10 and upgraded Fedora 10 to Fedora 11 using the CD which comes from fedoraproject.org - the official site, should I install the Video Card Driver again?
I have a dell studio 15 laptop which has a ati radeon 4570 512 graphics card and i m using fedora 12 my problem is that, on the ati site there is not any dedicated graphics driver for my 4570 on ati site, i just want to know how can i install grahics driver for my f12 OS. is there is any one in the community who is using a similar ati card
I'm somewhat new to Fedora but not Linux in general. I went to install the nvidia driver as per any instructions I found on the internet that yielded results. I typed sudo yum install kmod-nvidia and eventually got a driver, blacklisted nouveau, restarted, and finally got compiz and all my desktop effects.
The problem was when I played Minecraft, which for those who don't know is a game, from a .jar file. After ~5 minutes of playing something happens and everything freezes. Video completely stops but I still have mouse control and sound(at least for anything already running). Clicking stuff does nothing and no hotkeys work to bring up anything at all. I end up having to do a reset by hand to get anything done. Turning off desktop effects didn't help.
Why is this? Did I install the wrong driver, even though kmod-nvidia should find the right one on it's own? nvidia 8800 GT is my card. Could it be the java program screwing things up royally? I can't remember if the program worked fine on it's own before the driver install, but uninstalling the driver now causes the game to fail on launch, which I guess makes sense but can't figure out if it's simply the lack of driver or if removing the driver screwed something else up. I might just reinstall fedora and start from scratch again, but before I did that I wanted to find out if I'm just installing the wrong driver and can simply find teh right one to fix all of this.
I am running Fedora 10 on a Gateway Machine. I tried to install the corresponding drivers for acceleration but it seems to have broken the display. After the loading splash screen, the screen goes black and does not respond to anything. I did manage to see the Grub boot loader by pressing 3 a number of times while booting the machine. Any ideas for how to revert the computer to its normal display so i can try again at getting these drivers working. It is a tad bit annoying not having a display but hell, this distro is already as far as I can see 10x as good as Ubuntu.
I just installed Fedora today And man I am impressed, good bye buggy Vista hello Reign. I have the linux driver that came with my adapter software disc. Is that one compatable with core11? If so how do I install it using yum, have been unsucessfull so far. It is for the alfa AWUS036H, RTL8187 chipset.
I found my fedora 9 GNOME gui is very very slow. Browser, editor everything ... when I type in the editor, the display is even slower than I type! I suspect maybe the graphic driver is not installed properly. Could someone point me where to star How do I check the graphic driver? If it needs update how do I do it?
I try to configurate a POS-System (Point of Sale - i hope pay desk is the right english word for it). The System is a BattleNetX and a Touch-Display (BA73-A) from the concern named Wincore Nixdorf (Germany). Currently, I try to install the driver for the Touchpanel on Fedora Core (12 I hope, but it can [edit: i mean can not] be important because the driver is older than FC12 ). Because, I am not the Linux adept, I work contiguous on the manual[1]. Now, I have a problem by a step. I must compile a adjust driver for the Kernel. But 'make' give me everytime a error. Here you see:
I used the ATI executable to install the ATI videocard driver and now my Fedora install wont boot at all... it stops mid-bootup and the screen flickers and it just hangs. Is there any way for me to rescue my install with a Live CD or Live Media?
I managed to install the graphics card's driver on several distributions, but I just don't get what I have to do to run it on Fedora.Well.... The installation program asks me that X must be stopped... but.. how do I do that?Ctrl + Alt + Backspace doesn't work. When typing "top", X or gdm are not in the list.
I'm using Fedora 14 GNOME. At least until tomorrow when 15 beta comes out Anyway, I'm trying to install drivers for my wireless card. It's a Realtek Semiconductor, RTL8191SEvB. I'm using RTL8192 drivers, which work just fine when I can get them to install. I have all of the necessary files to install it, and they've worked before on a previous Fedora 14 (KDE) install. I cd into the drive and run "sudo make" which gives me the following:
I hope I'm posting in the right forum here, but I'm trying to install a realtek wireless driver and make goes okay, but when I get to make install it says permission denied when trying to create a file in a folder near the end of the process. Is there anyway to fix this? What can I do?

UPDATE 8/28/2009: I now recommend that people install the new packages instead of the manual instructions below, see this link:http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=155503 (Howto for fglrx/catalyst (Ati driver) and Compiz-fusion)NOTE: After installing the packages, I had to do the things at the following link to make the above packages work:http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showpo...postcount=3564If you still want to install the driver manually (you do not need to if you install the packages above), the instructions are below:
for more than 5 months i've been trying to install my nvidia G105M driver on fedora 11 without any results but the famous 6 little screens.
i've even megrated to ubuntu cause the've overrided this problem with modifying the xorg file...and it worked like a charm also with opensuse
now when i tried to use this same method with fedora 12 (which i've been waiting for for about a year..as i hated fedora 11) i can't even see the 6 screens...no GUI..
i don't really like ubuntu that much...actually i prefer fedora over any other distro..
How can I install Samsung's ML-1710 printer driver? I've already tried using Samsung's "Unified Linux Driver" from their website. Unfortunately, it does not work; while the installation program claims to "install" the needed driver, all attempts (including local) to print using that ML-1710 printer & printer driver set fail.
It's noteworthy that I can print on the ML-1710 printer, over the network, from both windows and other Linux (Ubuntu) workstations.
I'm a new user of fedora12 and I'm a beginer in Linux, I'll apreciate if someone tell me how to install a driver for my video card (nvidia 9400GT) because when I try desktop effect fedora disply an error "require hardware 3D support" and that tell's me I don't have the appropriate driver.
I am running a fresh installation of Fedora 13 on a 64 bit machine. I have an ATI Radeon HD5750 video card, and I want to install drivers for it. I have tried following Leigh's guide, but I have run into a problem. I cannot install kmod-catalyst because of the following error:
Code: [root@localhost ~]# yum install kmod-catalyst Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit Setting up Install Process Resolving Dependencies --> Running transaction check
Running 2.6.33.3-85.fc13.i686 and just purchased a AGP 7600GT 512 video card. Searched around and found:I did the rpm, yum, sed, mv & dracut as directed. Then I rebooted. When it starts up (all the normal bios messages) and then I 1/2" bar across the bottom of the screen with Fedora 13 on the right end and .... nothing. Just sits there. I've used my Live-13 disk and tried to reverse the procedure but I'm starting to think it's the video drivers.
