View 2 RepliesJust tried new Fedora 11 yesterday, did a fresh install with ext3 /boot and ext4 file system, booting looks great, but wireless doesn't work. I have tried using broadcom-wl, dnmouse script, dnmouse broadcom f11 rpm, fwcutter but not ndiswrapper
Code:
# rpm -qa | grep broadcom
broadcom-wl-5.10.79.10-2.fc11.noarch
Code:
# lspci -nn
02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g [14e4:4315] (rev 01)
Code:
# lspci -vvv | grep 4312
02:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company BCM4312 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller
ifconfig only shows eth0, lo and pan0 interfaces, and got nothing from iwconfig...
Code:
# iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
pan0 no wireless extensions.
Even tried to blacklist b43 after installing broadcom-wl driver, but no luck. Broadcom-wl works fine with Fedora 10 on my laptop, is it possibly because of the new ext4 file system? Should I try ndiswrapper or install Fedora 10 again and do a preupgrade? I also use fedora at work.
I had Karmic a while back, but i got rid of it becasue of my Bcm4312 Wireless Card would not recognize the STA driver, or bcm43xx.In that time i learned a bit of command line stuff. anyways now that I have my internet working, I was just wondering What I could do with ubuntu. I am interested in the command line and Programming. Where could I learn more about the 2 subjects?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed Ubuntu 11.04 on my Dell Mini 10v and for some reason I just realized that my wired network connection is not working for some reason. And not in windows either. But my wireless works in windows. So I have downloaded the latest Broadcom STA wireless drivers for linux and have tried to follow this tutorial to install it. But when I get to:
make -C /lib/modules/<2.6.xx.xx>/build M=`pwd` clean I can't get it to work. It says:
make: Entering directory '/usr/src/linux-header-2.6.38-8-generic'
scripts/Makefile.build:44: /usr/src/linux-header-2.6.38-8-generic/pwd/Makefile: No such file or directory

I tried to find my solution for hours now but no luck. I'm a medical student and the other day I finally found the time to set up ubuntu for my first time. Everything was working great and I had wireless up and running. However, I tried to set up tethering to my iphone and after that my wireless hasn't been working (I've noticed no other problems). [URL]..Then I used this tutorial [URL].. However, after doing these steps the computer needed to reboot (I actually forget exactly where but I had to reboot in the middle of the second tutorial). After my computer restarted my wireless no longer showed up. By this I mean that wireless network no longer even showed up as an option when I left clicked then connections. However, I did not lose the wireless profile under network connections. So I went to system and noticed that the Broadcom STA driver was no longer active. So I tried to activate again and received this message.
[Code]...
I have just upgraded to 10.04 and can't get wireless connectivity because the STA driver for bcm4312 fails to activate. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I had had similar problems in 9.10 and tried to install bcmwl-kernel-source which apparently caused errors in the upgrade process. Not sure if this is part of the problem.

I have some problem with my wireless network in Fedora 13.#:lspci0c:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01)I found the firmware and installed it,but it still can not work! There are some output:
#:ifconfig

UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1

I'm fairly new to fedora, and I installed it on my gateway kav60 netbook. Everything works fine, except that the wifi is saying that the firmware is missing. Is there a way to fix this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased an Acer eMachines E525 laptop, and currently have it dual booting Windows 7 and Fedora 12 x86_64 with the 2.6.31.5-127 kernel. I've been completely unable to get the wireless card working in Fedora (it works fine in windows).
lspci lists the following about the wireless card:
Code:
Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)
so I assume it's a BCM4312.
So far I have tried downloading the driver from [URL] and then trying to install it according to the accompanying readme file: [URL]. However, when I try to make the driver, I get the following message:
Code:
KBUILD_NOPEDANTIC=1 make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build M=`pwd`
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.32.10-90.fc12.x86_64/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
The Readme says that if I get this kind of error, I need to install the "kernel-devel" package, but I have this installed and it still returns the same error.
I have also tried following the fw-cutter instructions for fedora from [URL], but it still doesn't work. I realise there's the option of using ndiswrapper, but I gave that a shot with Fedora 11 on the same machine and had no luck, and I'd really like to see whether any of the other options work before going down that route.
I am using fedora 12 with bcm4312 wireless card. But wifi is not detected by os. I am new to open source .
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've installed F13 on two Dell E6400 laptops, both with Broadcom BCM4312 wireless cards. After updating them both, I enabled the RPMFusion repos and installed the akmod-ed wireless driver on each (following these instructions: [URL] Wireless works perfectly on one laptop, but doesn't seem to be working on the other. The wl module is activated (shows up in lsmod) and the wireless card is enabled (wlan0 shows up in ifconfig), but Network Manager isn't showing any available networks. For the record, wireless works on both laptops with Ubuntu 9.10 I am going to try cloning the entire drive on the working laptop and sticking it on the dud one.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a problem here with my updated kernel. I'm currently using Fedora 14 kernel 2.6.35.9-64, and my wireless card Broadcom BCM4312, which had an issue before with Linux distros, is working fine already, thanks to the kmod-wl software driver. My problem now is this, after updating to kernel 2.6.35.10-72, fedora does not boot, and I noticed that the wireless card is the only thing not activating, compared to the working kernel. And when i looked at the log of the bootup (pressed right arrow key), I saw this:

I am trying to install ndiswrapper in Fedora in order to install a Windows wireless driver.

This post is for an HP parallel printer but I think it should work for at least "some" other parallel printers.I am sure that someone smarter than me will follow up this post with a "well, just do this and that" and you will have your HP Laserjet 6P printer ready to go, but since questions litter the forums of MANY distros on how to get "at least" an HP parallel printer to work, I'll post this anyway. This may or may not work for you if you do not have an HP but you can try it.The install printer box will let you do an install for an HP Parallel and it asks for how it is to talk to it, through CUPS sock or "local host'. When we get through what I recommend you should chose "local host".

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm somewhat new to Fedora but not Linux in general. I went to install the nvidia driver as per any instructions I found on the internet that yielded results. I typed sudo yum install kmod-nvidia and eventually got a driver, blacklisted nouveau, restarted, and finally got compiz and all my desktop effects.
The problem was when I played Minecraft, which for those who don't know is a game, from a .jar file. After ~5 minutes of playing something happens and everything freezes. Video completely stops but I still have mouse control and sound(at least for anything already running). Clicking stuff does nothing and no hotkeys work to bring up anything at all. I end up having to do a reset by hand to get anything done. Turning off desktop effects didn't help.
Why is this? Did I install the wrong driver, even though kmod-nvidia should find the right one on it's own? nvidia 8800 GT is my card. Could it be the java program screwing things up royally? I can't remember if the program worked fine on it's own before the driver install, but uninstalling the driver now causes the game to fail on launch, which I guess makes sense but can't figure out if it's simply the lack of driver or if removing the driver screwed something else up. I might just reinstall fedora and start from scratch again, but before I did that I wanted to find out if I'm just installing the wrong driver and can simply find teh right one to fix all of this.

I am running Fedora 10 on a Gateway Machine. I tried to install the corresponding drivers for acceleration but it seems to have broken the display. After the loading splash screen, the screen goes black and does not respond to anything. I did manage to see the Grub boot loader by pressing 3 a number of times while booting the machine. Any ideas for how to revert the computer to its normal display so i can try again at getting these drivers working. It is a tad bit annoying not having a display but hell, this distro is already as far as I can see 10x as good as Ubuntu.
