CentOS 5 :: MySQL 5.1 On 5.3 - Use Yum To Install An Rpm File Downloaded From The Internet?
May 22, 2009
I understand that you can "rpm -i <packagename>" to install an rpm file downloaded from the internet, but is that the best way to install an rpm package? Is it possible to use yum to install an rpm file downloaded from the internet, if so, is that a better method?
New to ubuntu but have use Suse 11.2 a bit. I downloaded a Spanish dictionary to Openoffice on suse with no problems. Under the tools in Openoffice word it says Languages "other dictionaries available". Click on it and it takes you to a site with all types of foriengs language dictionaries. I found the mexico spanish dictionary and it said get it. On suse it downloaded it and it auto installed it with a program in Yast I believe. Anyway the dictionary was in there when I opened office the next time.
Ubuntu is a different story, I can download it but do not know how to install the Spanish dictionary file to the OpenOffice. Is their a program included with ubuntu (gnome) desktop that will load this file and set it up in Office?
I running Centos 5.3 on a computer with no internet access and no cdrom, i need to know how to keep it updated via USB stick. I have a 2 Gb USB stick, i am trying to update my centos machine and also update php and mysql with the testing repo packages. I am testing vBulletin 4 Publishing Suite and vBulletin 4 requirements are: PHP: 5.2.0 and MySQL:4.1.0 but Recommended: PHP: 5.2.6 or newer AND MySQL: 5.0.19 or newer.
mysql Ver 14.12 Distrib 5.0.77, for redhat-linux-gnu (i686) using readline 5.1
edit:i am trying to follow this guide: [URL]since i have no internet access, i have downloaded all files to my USB stick.i added the testing repo manually.is there a way to instruct centos to update these packages from my usb stick ? since i have them on USB, i can upload them on centos.
I want to install this program:I tried to download and unpack, but that dosnt seem to get me anywhere.Until now i have only tried installing through YaST.I dont understand the manual on the website.
I am very new to linux. I just got the dual boot working a couple of days ago. Now I downloaded MATLAB (2009b) from my university website. It came in a zip file...well I have no clue how to install it. I looked at the instruction manual, it doesn't really explain much.
I'm using ubuntu 8.10 which is already installed. Recently I have downloaded ISO file of ubuntu 10.04. Is there any way to install that ISO file i've downloaded without writing the ISO file in a CD?
We have been struggling with a problem with the mysql-server package. This might be in the wrong category because our problems are with it on x86_64. Where the problem happens variables that should populate from the my.cnf don't, on other servers, they do, the my.cnf files are identical except for the server-id
The problem occurs on some of our machines but not others. All are using the mysql-server-5.0.45-7.el5.x86_64 The ones that work, when you connect with a client respond with server version 5.0.45-log source distribution The ones that don't work respond with 5.0.45 source distribution
It's unclear what the differences are between the two source versions and how we wind up with two different versions. One thing that might be involved, the mysql package is installed with both the i386 and x86_64
I want to upgrade existing MySQL 5.0.77 version on CentOS 5 Red Hat Linux to MySQL 5.1.x. Is anybody have list of patches or upgrades to upgrade to MySQL 5.1.x?
I was messing around with MySQL, trying to get MySQLi to install, and then, not sure how I did it, uninstalled MySQL completely. For some reason, I can't reinstall it either. It just says, no packages available.
Im having a major problem with mysql-server failing to install. The installation stoppes on "Running Transactions" (have tried waiting for 10 minutes). When I use Ctrl+C an error appears:error: %pre(mysql-server-5.0.77-4.el5_5.4.x86_64) scriptlet failed, signal 2 error: install: %pre scriptlet failed (2), skipping mysql-server-5.0.77-4.el5_5.4
I just installed Centos 5.5 on one of my systems today and something is eluding me. Basically I had a web site and forum software (phpBB, but I don't think it's that, other forum software like Xoops does the same thing) running on Fedora 13, and I copied it over to the new Centos installation. Apache is running fine and displays a PHP test file and .html files just fine.
MySQL seems to be fine, I can log into that, show databases etc. Just can't get any forum software to know there is MySQL there. I did change the path of the site, and the databases, and edited /etc/my.cnf and /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf to reflect that. Thought I made the needed changes in /etc/php.ini but who knows. Seemed like everything should have tar'd up and moved easy, but not the case...
I'm trying to install Pure-FTPd. I'm going to use it via the internal file-based userlist. The problem is, when I yum install pure-ftpd from rpmforge or CentOS.Karan.Org, I also get mysql, perl-DBI and postgresql-libs as dependencies.Since I'm not intrested in DB-based authentication, I'd strongly prefer to skip these packages. Why are these listed as dependencies, since AFAIK, they are not really dependencies? Can I force yum to skip them somehow?
I have MySQL 5.1.34 and PHP 5.1.6 installed on my system, how do I install php-mysql? Each time I try, it says
mysql-5.0.45-7.el5.i386 from base has depsolving problems -- > mysql conflicts with mysql-server-community error: mysql conflicts with mysql-server-community
Today I was trying to upgrade mysql and php.PhP went well, thats at the latest version, but the mysql went to 5.5x from REMI. This killed all my websites, no DB and worse.Well I typed the wrong this (totally my fault - serious EPIC FAIL)i typed yum remove mysql not downgrade...This removed plesk and a load of other stuff, and now im screwed.
I just configured a complete Cent OS 5.2 system for use as a web server. I can configure Apache and PHP but MySQl seems to be causing some issues -
[mysqld] datadir=/var/lib/mysql socket = /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock user=mysql # Default to using old password format for compatibility with mysql 3.x # clients (those using the mysqlclient10 compatibility package).
I downloaded the demo of Penumbra Overture, it is a .sh file (113Mb). I can't open the file. In a terminal I ran chmod +x PenumbraOvertureDemo-2553.sh and then sudo ./PenumbraOvertureDemo-2553.sh and I get an error "./PenumbraOvertureDemo-2553.sh: 2: Syntax error: "(" unexpected" . The quotation marks are my own. Is the file corrupted? One of my lugmates thinks it might be a shar file, but Karmic says that it is a shell script. Another friend says that it is too large to be a shell script. Here is the code:
john@john-laptop:~$ cd /home/john/00 john@john-laptop:~/00$ chmod +x PenumbraOvertureDemo-2553.sh john@john-laptop:~/00$ sudo ./PenumbraOvertureDemo-2553.sh

and I can not seem to find a php-mysql that works with MySQL 5.1
I followed the below thread and added the CentOS-Testing.repo and did a yum update php and it updated 30 packages, but when I try to install php-mysql I get :
[URL]
yum install php-mysql Setting up Install Process Parsing package install arguments Resolving Dependencies
[Code].....
Where can I find a php-mysql that works with MySQL 5.1? I checked the mysql website and can not seem to find any matches.
I thought that the problem is in the phpMyAdmin not in the mysql. But now i think different. It seems that the problem is right in the mysql. I think that there was no root user, when mysql was freshly installed. Unfortunately i did everything i can find on internet (some tutorials) but they don`t helped me at all, maybe i fu**ed up the mysql service. So i reinstalled it, and when i want to start it there is no file mysql.sock and i get the following:
linux-nepg:~ # service mysql restart Restarting service MySQL Shutting down service MySQL done Starting service MySQL warning: /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock didn't appear within 30 seconds
Tool to load software downloaded from a internet site? Does anyone know where in gnome desktop the tool for installing software downloaded from the internet or off a cd disk>
What i want to be able to do is create a custom kickstart for my centOS 5 server. I want to create a bootable cd that I can pop in my server and basically walk away for 45 minutes and I come back and its fully installed. All the directions I have read so far tell me that I have to create a seperate ks.cfg and then I need my original centos cd to get it booted. Then the cd will ask for where the ks.cfg file is and I have to type the location. I just want to pop the CD in and type in linux_clean or something and have it perform a custom install based on the information and specification in my ks.cfg. How can I go about doing this?
I want to instal the ear training program GNU Solfege. But im still very new in linux, and i really dont know what to do after i downloaded the Tar. file?
