I had installed Matlab 2010a in Centos 5.5 using the Matlab GUI. It was working perfectly after the installation. I managed to run matlab from the installation GUI after they have verified my license and everything. However, I could not run matlab again after I close the software. I noticed that the installer has automatically created a symbolic link during the installation but when I open the terminal and type Matlab. It returns bash: matlab: command not found. I know the problem is related to either the environment or path is not being set correctly. tell me know I can run the newly installed application from the terminal?
I am running matlab 2010b on centOS5.6. Matlab opened without any error either in the computer terminal or in VNCSERVER. While running bench (of matlab) the session or the vncserver are crashing. In some cases the bench run for the first time without any problems, however it will crash the session or the vncserver on the 2-3 runs of the same code.
I've installed MatLab in my Acer Aspire one netbook which runs karmic. Does anyone know what can cause this error message from appearing when i click on the icon? Could not launch 'MATLAB R2009a' Failed to execute child process "matlab" (No such file or directory)

I installed CentOS however during package selection, I deselected every option because I don't need or want the bloated dependencies however now when I try and install a 3rd party RPM from Oracle (VirtualBox), it fails:[root@vbox ~]# cat /var/log/vbox-install.log ** Compiling vboxdrvMakefile:159: *** Error: unable to find the sources of your current Linux kernel. I am not being able to install KMPlayer and Matlab software on my system(red hat lnx 5),a message appears 'no thread found', please suggest me how to install them
I installed CentOS 5.5 this morning with zimbra 6.0.7. Everything seemed to go perfectly until at the end the following zimlets failed to install com_zimbra_phone...failed. com_zimbra_email...failed. com_zimbra_dnd...failed. com_zimbra_url...failed.
I installed zimbra successfully on Fedora 11 before. But I heard how stable CentOS is so I decided to switch. I read a lot online about how a lot of people have had zimbra on CentOS5 without any issues that were not easily solved. Zimbra appears to be working fine. I was able to add my domains, accounts, and send/receive email. So I'm not quite sure how important these zimlets are or if I even need them. But I'd like to know that the software is working the way it's supposed to. Since I'm new to Zimbra I want to make sure I get full exposure so I can learn it well.

I am very new to linux. I just got the dual boot working a couple of days ago. Now I downloaded MATLAB (2009b) from my university website. It came in a zip file...well I have no clue how to install it. I looked at the instruction manual, it doesn't really explain much.
i needed a new harddrive and installed a new system (10.04 - previously 8.04) on it.one of the things i wanted to install is matlab, however the installer doesn't do anything. I used the same iso image before on 8.04 and the install went smoothly.i cant even get it to display the options.so i untared all matlab related files out of my 8.04 backup.can i just copy those files to the right places in my new system? guess not,but maybe there aren't that many things to modify.
I recently shifted from windows to Linux(Ubuntu). I need to install Matlab now. I have a windows version matlab software. How to install it in Ubuntu. Can install it using Wine?
I have an ISO file of MATLAB and I want to extract it to be able to run the installer. I'm not the admin of the computer and there is no 7-zip or file-roller. It has isoinfo but I don't how to use it to extract the whole ISO file and apparently I cannot mount the ISO too. way to extract the iso file?
I had the elrepo kmod-r8168 driver running smooth for a while on my development box. Yesterday, I did a clean install on it and when I tried to install the latest kmod-r8168 rpm, it failed to enable the networking support:
# yum --enablerepo=elrepo install kmod-r8168
The install performed all proper steps to disable the 8169 driver, I double checked to be sure. This is not a connectivity issue. If I remove the kmod-r8168 rpm, reboot the server and run the ifconfig eth0 up to activate the interface, everything works as expected. I use the latest kernel (2.6.18-194.26.1.el5 x86_64).
First, I performed a clean install, activated the eth0 and did a yum update, then installed the kmod-r8168 with yum. Then, I reinstalled the OS again, activated the eth0 and installed the kmod-r8168 on a 5.5 CD based kernel, same fail results. The only hiccup is: every time I start the box, I have to activate the eth0 interface (with default CentOS 8169 driver):
# ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.3 # ping -c 3 192.168.1.1 (no packets lost) # ifconfig eth0 up
Subprocess failed. I would like to see some of the update with XEN.
Today i upgraded my system and started getting error when i update, install or remove a package. The error isn't restricted only to one repository so i thing something is wrong with my system.
i am trying to install symantec endpoint on a linux server by this command rpm -ivh sav-1.0.3-8.i386.rpm but it gives me the following error error: unpacking of archive failed on file /opt/Symantec/bin/navdefutil;4ceb8d6b: cpio: mkdir failed - No such file or directory
When I try to run the Online Updates to the system through Yast I get the following errors for each package:

I've been using Ubuntu since 6.04, not a linux guru by any means but can usually get myself out of trouble.
So, the issue... I installed 8.04 on my mother's laptop some time back as she was having trouble keeping Win 2000 running (she has a low spec no-name generic laptop btw). I live in Autsralia and she in England, i thought i could better support her if she was running Ubuntu... All has been well with 8.04 but with the new LTS release (10.04) i thought i'd talk her through the upgrade... Did the online upgrade via Update Manager, all seemed to go OK but when she went to log on after restart she got an error saying 'authentication failed' even though we are 100% sure we have the user name and password correct... Tried to do a ctrl+alt+F1 to by pass the GUI log on but couldn't get the terminal session to open up, just got a black screen - no command prompt.
So... thought OK re-install... downloaded the ISO, burned and sent her a CD in the post... talked her through the re-install, all seemed to go well (again) - BUT, after restart, couldn't log in "authentication failed" again...
So, remember i'm trying to talk a novice through all this... any thoughts!?!
If i can get her to log in i can then support her via some kind of remote sesion or other screen share... and it wont cost me a small fortune in international calls!!! But if i can't get a log in, i'm dead in the water!?
Today, I use the vnc tool to connect the server , but it has the following message:
test@xxx: ~ vi ~/.vnc/xxx:1.log libhal.c 644 : Error connecting to system bus: Message did not receive a reply **(gnome-volume-manger:30626):WARING**: manager.c/912:failed to initialize HAL!
The server's os is CentOS 4.7 x86_64, I tried to google for the answer, but had no anything useful information.
When my server starts I received this text:No kdump kernel image found:[WARNING]Tried to locate /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-164.6.1.el5.centos.plusLoading kdump:[FAILED]
I need to set up permissions for matlab (at least I think permissions is the problem). I haven't been able to find any conclusive instructions how to set permissions and the advice I see are often confusing or contradictory. I have installed matlab (64-bit version) using root account as that was recommended by the installer and everything seems fine except for the error message I got after installation:
[root@localhost User]# /mnt/dvd/install The following messages were written to standard error while running 'xsetup' the X Window System version of 'install'. xsetup: Unable to load required font. Warning: This program is an suid-root program or is being run by the root user. The full text of the error or warning message cannot be safely formatted in this environment. You may get a more descriptive message by running the program as a non-root user or by removing the suid bit on the executable. Warning: Cannot convert string "%s" to type %s Check the content of the installation output file (backend):
/usr/local/lib64/matlab/install_matlab.out Error messages found: Warning: Permission Problem With MATLAB Files! | Checked some files in your MATLAB root directory. These are bad:| -r--r--r--. (not world readable) - ./toolbox/matlab/general/diary.m .....
Can I set up permissions to make it work afterwards? If so - how? I see the error message talking about the permissions being -r--r--r-- which I guess is only readable to all users. But should I set permissions to folders, executables or both? Was there anything I could have done before installation to make this work? I'm rather new to linux though I feel quite comfortable to work with the terminal. My system is fedora 13.
I found this excellent resource: [URL]. Though I'm still not sure how to set up permissions and I'm a bit hesitant as I don't want to create any security holes in my system. Would it be enough for me to give executable rights for my user to the program files in usr/local/bin? Now that I look at the permissions it seems I already have permission (through others...?) to the mentioned files. ... -r-xr-xr-x. 1 root root 174426 5 jan 2010 librxtxSerial.so -r-xr-xr-x. 1 root root 94246 4 jan 2010 libtbbmalloc.so.2 ...
