I am very new to linux. I just got the dual boot working a couple of days ago. Now I downloaded MATLAB (2009b) from my university website. It came in a zip file...well I have no clue how to install it. I looked at the instruction manual, it doesn't really explain much.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi needed a new harddrive and installed a new system (10.04 - previously 8.04) on it.one of the things i wanted to install is matlab, however the installer doesn't do anything. I used the same iso image before on 8.04 and the install went smoothly.i cant even get it to display the options.so i untared all matlab related files out of my 8.04 backup.can i just copy those files to the right places in my new system? guess not,but maybe there aren't that many things to modify.

I have just upgraded my opensuse from 11.2 to 11.3 and can not find KMPlayer.I have searched the different repositories and it is not to be found in either KDE or Packman repository. I can however find it in the old 11.1 repository of both KDE and Packman.KMPlayer is the only video player I have used that is able to play my 1080p movies without problem.

I have fedora 10 (32bit) on the other laptop and mplayer, kmplayer ffmpeg mencoder ...installed there, all working properly.
On my new laptop I want to try the most updated fedora 64bit. but I could not install mplayer or ffmpeg.
I tried to listen to my music:
PHP Code...
but there's no sound. I tried to play a 45 minutes rmvb, but the progress bar quickly marched to the end within 3 seconds, no sound, no video either.
I removed kmplayer then reinstalled it, but problem is not solved. so what's wrong?
I'm trying to acquire from a home vhs (recorded from tv) to put into a dvd, but even if tvtime and xawtv show me without any noise, once recorded into a file with mencoder, a player (vlc kmplayer)shows some noising lines, as if the vhs was damaged, but it wasn't!
I attached some images to let you better understand.
My mencoder command is:
Code:
The capturecard is a MSI TV@ANYWHERE PCI, lspci output:
Code:
My os is debian squeeze with kde4, 2.6.32-trunk-686
I try to find a rpm for kmplayer from here, but there are all for KDE? Software.openSUSE.org I am using opensuse 11.2 + Gnome desktop, which rpm should I use?

I have a computer with Windows and I am running a Matlab program remotely in a Linux server. That (matlab) program will use an executable file (.exe) to analize some data; and that data will be used as input to a program that I can only run in the linux server.I need to run an executable file (.exe) from matlab in a linux enviroment. Is this possible?
View 13 Replies View RelatedWhat is the first Matlab release that fully supports 64-bit? Is it 2010a? I've got 64-bit installations of Linux and Mac OS X, and want to make sure I install a copy of Matlab that takes full advantage of 64-bit and the resulting larger memory support.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to run matlab 7.7 (R2008b) on my ubuntu 9.10 distribution..the thing is that I am totally new with both matlab and linux and I get the following error message from matlab when I try to run an example mex-function:

I had gcc-4.4 as default on my pc, so after this error I downloaded an older version (gcc-4.1) and removed with rm the symbolic link in /usr/bin pointing to gcc-4.4 and created a new one pointing to gcc-4.1. Now when I type gcc -v in the terminal it says that gcc is in the packages gcc and pentium-builder, to do an apt-get install. I tried that but than it says that gcc-4.1 is already the newest version. It seems that I have multiple versions of gcc installed but neither the terminal nor matlab can find them.
I installed KMplayer but I cant play video files...No video output but can get only the audio output...So how to make this work for videos?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install the Matlab 7.5 compiled runtime for 64-bit Linux (MCRInstaller.75.glnxa64.bin) and keep getting a "No Java Runtime Environment(JRE) was found on this system." error message.
I understand the JRE is bundled with MCRInstaller and will self-compile/install. However, I don't have admin access, could this be the source of the problem? If so, how could I fix it (not sure how to direct it to install locally without going into the source code)?
I got around this error before, but stupid me didn't write down what I did and I forgot.
I need to set up permissions for matlab (at least I think permissions is the problem). I haven't been able to find any conclusive instructions how to set permissions and the advice I see are often confusing or contradictory. I have installed matlab (64-bit version) using root account as that was recommended by the installer and everything seems fine except for the error message I got after installation:
[root@localhost User]# /mnt/dvd/install
The following messages were written to standard error while running 'xsetup' the X Window System version of 'install'.
xsetup: Unable to load required font.
Warning: This program is an suid-root program or is being run by the root user. The full text of the error or warning message cannot be safely formatted in this environment. You may get a more descriptive message by running the program as a non-root user or by removing the suid bit on the executable.
Warning: Cannot convert string "%s" to type %s
Check the content of the installation output file (backend):
/usr/local/lib64/matlab/install_matlab.out
Error messages found:
Warning: Permission Problem With MATLAB Files!
| Checked some files in your MATLAB root directory. These are bad:|
-r--r--r--. (not world readable) - ./toolbox/matlab/general/diary.m .....
Can I set up permissions to make it work afterwards? If so - how? I see the error message talking about the permissions being -r--r--r-- which I guess is only readable to all users. But should I set permissions to folders, executables or both? Was there anything I could have done before installation to make this work? I'm rather new to linux though I feel quite comfortable to work with the terminal. My system is fedora 13.
I found this excellent resource: [URL]. Though I'm still not sure how to set up permissions and I'm a bit hesitant as I don't want to create any security holes in my system. Would it be enough for me to give executable rights for my user to the program files in usr/local/bin? Now that I look at the permissions it seems I already have permission (through others...?) to the mentioned files.

I currently work at a lab which uses Matlab to do calculations that take weeks. We're having problems monitoring Matlab outside of the lab. Specifically, what we would like would be to have Matlab run on a linux computer in the lab and be able to check up on it every so often. We've tried playing around with X server and are going to try VNC when there's time.
