Ubuntu Installation :: Matlab Install Not Working?
Oct 14, 2010
i needed a new harddrive and installed a new system (10.04 - previously 8.04) on it.one of the things i wanted to install is matlab, however the installer doesn't do anything. I used the same iso image before on 8.04 and the install went smoothly.i cant even get it to display the options.so i untared all matlab related files out of my 8.04 backup.can i just copy those files to the right places in my new system? guess not,but maybe there aren't that many things to modify.

I am trying to install Matlab on my computer. When I type
Code:
sudo sh /home/armen/Downloads/Matlab.R2010b.UNIX/matu20Xb/install
I get this error, which stops installation right away:
Code:
eval: 1: /tmp/mathworks_29716/java/jre/glnxa64/jre/bin/java: Permission denied
What can I do? Is it some problem with Java?

I've been trying to install Matlab r2008b but with no sucess.here are the commands i ran.
sudo mkdir /usr/local/matlabR2008b
cd /usr/local/matlabR2008b/
copied my files to tmp folder and run
sudo sh /tmp/MATHWORKS_R2008B/install
here is what i get at the terminal

I have installed matlab 7.9 in ubuntu 9.10. I tried to launch it on the desktop using launcher. But as I double click on it it flashes but its not opening. After seeing previous posts somewhere it is given that matlab-desktop should be used. But I am not clear where to use it. How to create a desktop icon for matlab. It got solved by adding -desktop at the end of command.

I have never installed anything on Ubuntu from files, and I do not know how to do it. There are have been internet pages I have visited, but each one tells you to do it in a different method, and each one is more complicated that the last. So, I was wondering if anyone knows the simplest way of installing Matlab -

I tried to install MATLAB 2010b on CentOS 5.3 but failed.
I mounted the DVD manually using the following lines
$ umount /dev/scd0
$ mount -t iso9660 /dev/scd0 /local
when I type $ sh /local/install
shell display the following
Preparing installation files .. Installing ...
and never move.
I noticed that the computer is reading the DVD. Then DVD light stop blinking and dim; and nothing happen.

I've followed the guide here for installing MATLAB. The installation completed successfully, however, the launcher created doesn't launch MATLAB as MATLAB isn't installed anywhere pointed to by $PATH. What's the best way of solving this - adding MATLAB's directory to $PATH (in which case how do I go about doing so), or (re)installing MATLAB to somewhere already in $PATH?

I am trying to install Matlab v. 7.10 on my Ubuntu machine. I was able to successfully download the necessary files. However, when I attempt to install using ' ./install ', I get the following error message:

I installed MATLAB R2009a in my laptop (Fedora 14 x86-64), the installation was succesful but when I run MATLAB (in a console), appears a message: error while loading shared libraries: libut.so: cannot enable executable stack as shared object requires: Permission denied
I find a "solution", execute in a terminal: execstack -c libut.so
I used several times with differents libraries that I needed, but I run MATLAB in a terminal, MATLAB starts in a terminal, only a prompt ">>" and nothing.

I have an apparently stable installation of Xubuntu that I've hand-tweaked in a few ways. I'd like to be able to reinstall this system verbatim on this machine should a disk crash happen, etc.Is there a "standard" method to create an install and/or total-backup CD that would be an instantiation of the currently-installed-and-modified system?

I have been trying to install MATLAB 2008b as a standalone version; however, every time when the process runs to 18% it shows an error as follows: "There was an error extracting the archives for MATLAB compiler. Chceck that you have enough disk space and rerun the installer."
I did have checked the disk space which is much more than enough. I have also changed few different disks that are way more than enough as well, about 5GB at least, but this error still popped out when it runs to 18%.

I have used Universal-USB-Installer to create a bootable usb stick (sandisk cruzer).I already have xp on the first partition (I installed this via usb so know that the laptop is capable of it).Booting to the usb stick brings me to the install menu forst. I choose "install to hard drive" which just reloads the same menu. Tried over and over, also tried booting as a live cd but this has the same result.

I am trying to install the Matlab 7.5 compiled runtime for 64-bit Linux (MCRInstaller.75.glnxa64.bin) and keep getting a "No Java Runtime Environment(JRE) was found on this system." error message.
I understand the JRE is bundled with MCRInstaller and will self-compile/install. However, I don't have admin access, could this be the source of the problem? If so, how could I fix it (not sure how to direct it to install locally without going into the source code)?
I got around this error before, but stupid me didn't write down what I did and I forgot.

I recently downloaded and installed Ubuntu 10.10. I thought it was awesome...still do. OK, the problem is i was prompted to install some proprietary drivers and so i did but thats when the problems started. After reboot i couldn't get the GUI or gdm (not sure what to refer it to) to work. It goes directly to a terminal screen every time so i actually reinstalled Ubuntu and tried installing the drivers all different ways but no luck. i also can get into recovery mode and do low graphics. the driver version im trying to get working is nvidia 260.19.12. my graphics card is a geforce 7 series cant remember the number i have a 32bit processor.

I installed openSUSE on a 1tb HDD last night. I already have Windows Vista, and Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat (10.10) on my Laptop's 160gb Hard Drive. My computer was running fine beforehand, but after making a few miscalculations, whilke installing openSUSE i had deleted or overwritten GRUB, now I did what almost anyone that knows just a little about these things would do, and I reinstalled openSUSE, BUT this time i installed it on the 160gb hard drive with 17gb's of unallocated space that was in an "expanded partition" that was connected to Ubuntu and I got GRUB to work, but in the process i had made it so ubuntu was unable to boot or as it calls it an unbootable image, so since GRUB was working at this point I logged into windows, because openSUSE issn't supporting my wireless card, so anyway while i was on windows i downloaded the ubuntu 10.10 iso, and i installed it and it works, now i have eerything working, although it got rid of all my old ubuntu files, but i can live with that, BUT now my problem is i have to have my 1tb external HDD plugged in in order to boot up my computer, without it GRUB wont load, and so nothing else will load.
My question is: Is there a way to have a version of GRUB that will run on its own and not have to be installed alongside an OS (standalone GRUB) or a way that i can run GRUB off of my 160gb internal HDD and still have all 3 Operating system options (Windows Vista and openSUSE on the 160gbHDD, and ubuntu on the 1tb HDD) and have them all boot from that and (question 2 --->) also have it so that i dont require the 1tb Hard drive in to run GRUB?
