Fedora Hardware :: "unplugging" And "replugging" A USB Device?

Aug 30, 2011

I've got a server with a USB device which I'm having problems with. I'm not actually near the server and what I'd like is a way of removing the device and plugging it in again virtually using the command line.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Tv Tuner Won't Work After Unplugging And Replugging?

Oct 22, 2010

After much effort I got mythtv to work on my HP TouchSmart. Then I decided to install it on my laptop before I forgot all the troubleshooting tricks. So I unplugged my Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 850 from the TouchSmart and plugged it in the laptop. I was successful getting mythtv running on the laptop so I returned the tv tuner to the TouchSmart.Much to my dismay, mythtv no longer worked on the TouchSmart. I moved the tuner to the laptop again to see if mythtv worked. It didn't. Apparently, the act of unplugging the tuner and plugging it back in broke something.

For usb hard drives and cameras, an icon appears on the desktop that allows me to right click and choose to safely remove the device. I had no idea that unplugging a usb device without such an icon would cause any problems.Initially, the problem seemed to be with mythtv as I was able to successfully execute the following commands:

Code:
scan -x0 /usr/share/dvb/atsc/us-ATSC-center-frequencies-8VSB
mplayer dvb://WTVF-HD

Fedora Hardware :: Keyboard / Mouse Stop Responding; Replugging Isn't Registered?

Jan 23, 2011

Today my keyboard and or mouse repeatedly stop responding some minutes after boot. Currently the mouse stops responding after a few seconds of movement immediately after boot. Yesterday I used the machine most of the day, yet this issue didn't arise. Today I used it for a few hours before the issue developed. I did a full system update from the fresh install yesterday night. It's therefore possible that this issue has arisen as a result of the update, and that today the onset was delayed for some reason.

Earlier today I had the same problem with the keyboard. I replaced the batteries thinking that this was the cause. Now it looks like both keyboard and mouse are affected by the same problem. When the mouse stops functioning and the keyboard remains active, I unplug the mouse and replug it in, but it still does not respond, and only the unplug, and not the replug, are detected and logged in dmesg. I noticed ever since I installed Fedora yesterday that plugging in new usb devices after boot did not result in them being recognised, and that if I unplugged a mouse or keyboard and plugged them in again they would not work (requiring a hard reset). Currently the machine isn't usable as I cannot use the mouse for more than a few seconds. I haven't tried a PS2 connection, and currently I have keyboard access.

Hardware:

Fujitsu LZ945230BH1 USB Mouse
Microsoft Arc Bluetooth Wireless USB Keyboard
Running Fedora 14.

I haven't tried PS2. My keyboard and mouse appear to be working again (25 mins and still responsive).I unplugged all USB devices except for the keyboard, mouse, and wifi dongle. This appears to have solved the problem. Other devices that were plugged in were a USB to SATA external HDD caddy (powered off), and a serial USB connection to a Sheeva Plug computer (mini server). how I can use all my USB ports in future without this issue arising?

Fedora Networking :: Unplugging Network Cbl - Restarting Service Crashes FC12

Feb 2, 2010

The system will also crash when booting if it is not plugged in. However, this behaviour is not consistent. The crash is not really a crash so much as a complete system freeze, where not even the numlock light on the keyboard will turn on or off. I have to do a hard reset to get it going again. The last entry before the reboot in /var/log/messeges just shows eth0 link going down.

Fedora Hardware :: Full Speed USB MSC Device Detected As Input Device?

Apr 7, 2011

I am working on an embedded system, which is an USB MSC device that supports some vendor specific scsi commands. I am using FC10 laptop as USB host for testing, and it runs some small apps based on sg3. All has been well for ~ a week. The FC10 laptop is able to communicate with the device and retrieve data. Suddenly, starting from today, the laptop is not able to properly detect the device. When plugged-in, the MSC device is detected as input device (I thought). This is observed from "dmesg" output and changes in "/dev/input/".The device under development is running at full speed. When I connect to winXP, no problem. A windows file explorer pops up, showing the content of the drive. Also, the FC10 has no problem with other USB flash drive (high speed).

I tried restarting CUPS and adding the device. It did not work. The printer is on my home network wirelessly. I can add it through the CUPS web interface and print, but then I cannot access the scanner. I tried adding the device after it was already added through CUPS, but that did not work. I would like to use the scanner; I don't really care about the fax.

Red Hat / Fedora :: How To Configure USB To TTL Device

Sep 12, 2010

I have a USB CDC device that I want to use in Fedora 13.I have a USB to TTL converter that I want to use to connect a GPS with TTL output to my PC, since this PC does not have a serial port. I am running windows7 Ultimate, Fedora 13 and WinXp. The converter uses an FTDI chip. When I connected the device in windows 7 it showed as a USB device. However using the vendor supplied driver enabled it to be treated it as a COM port and I used a vendor supplied terminal to communicate with the device. The device however behaved abnormally and after a reboot stopped working showing an enumeration error.I switched to Fedora 13, where the device showed as /dev/ttyUSB0. I used stty -F /dev/USB0 ispeed 4800 and then cat /dev/ttyUSB0 to communicate with this device. It worked fine. However after a reboot it started behaving weird.

I used dmesg | grep tty and the output showed the device as being connected and disconnected frequently, although I did not disconnect it.lsusb sometimes showed an entry Bus 006 Device 002: ID 0403:6001 Future Technology Devices International, Ltd FT232 USB-Serial (UART) ICand at other times showed no such device. I thought there was a problem in the hardware. But then i connected the device to WinXP. It showed up as COM3 in the device manager. I changed the speed to 4800 bps and set flow control to XON/XOFF in the property of COM3. In the Hyperterminal application that ships with WinXp I set 8 bit data and no parity bit. It worked flawlessly. I have to make these settings at every reboot. However I want to use it under Linux (fedora 13). My guess is that if i can somehow set the XON/XOFF and 8 bit data, no parity things it would work fine
