Code:

Ubuntu Networking :: Alfa AWUS036H Adjust Power - Unknown Transmit Power Information

Jun 21, 2010

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit and I purchased a new ALFA AWUS036H wireless card. I would like to know if this "1Watt" wireless card is configured for full power. iwlist wlan0 txpower results:

wlan0 unknown transmit-power information. Current Tx-Power=27 dBm (501 mW). It appears to me that I should be able to increase the power. "iwpriv wlan0 highpower 1" does not work. Do I need to patch the new default driver that comes with Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit with the aircrack one following these directions:[URL]...? Monitor mode and a injection tests seem to work fine with the driver I have installed.

Hardware :: Eth0 Dead After Power Outage - Eth1 Works But No Connection

Oct 10, 2010

I setup a mythbuntu pc with an onboard card (eth0) so I could watch and listen to movies and music stored on my other pc in the basement. Everything worked fine until we had a power outage. I turned on the pc after the outage and had no networking.

I looked and saw no link lights. I verified the network port but plugging in a laptop. I got an ip and able to connect to the internet so the port is not the issue. I plugged in a pci 10/100 card (eth1) and booted up, got link lights, but no networking and not able to even ping the gateway. I setup a static ip in /etc/network/interfaces and added a route to the gateway/router. Still nothing.

The computer is built on an Asus M3N78-VM mobo (2GB RAM/Athlon3200+ single core).

acpi_listen detects the button press.

Networking :: WOL Is Not Working After A Software Power Off?

Apr 15, 2009

When in my Fedora 10 I power off the system, by using the gnome icon or even the command line "poweroff", it shut down the machine and power off it as expected - EVEN THE NIC. I can see its led is off ! This happens when I put the machine in hibernate mode too, but not in suspend mode. When I power on and and power off it just after the POST messages, when grub is waiting a key to select an option, I can see the NIC's led is still blinking at each second or so. When I power on the machine and select windows (dual boot system) and then power it off, it power off as expected, I mean, it leaves the NIC on - the led blinks even with the machine powered off. As result, I can't wake up my machine remotely by using Wakeup-On-Lan since the NIC is powered off by Fedora.

Ubuntu Networking :: 11.04 - Slow Wireless When On Battery Power

Sep 1, 2011

I am running Ubuntu 11.04 32Bit on an ASUS Eee PC 1015PX. I have found a strange anomaly concerning wireless connection when running on battery power. I have been experiencing very slow performance when connecting to my home NAS and also the internet through a wireless connection when using my netbooks internal wireless card (Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g/n (rev 01)) when running on battery power. The card works fine and connects at full speed when running on mains power but as soon as I switch to battery power the card connects to the internet/network fine but the connection speed is very slow indeed. I am using the Broadcom 802.11 Linux STA propriety wireless driver.

Ubuntu Networking :: Refresh Network After Power Failure On Laptop?

Apr 24, 2010

have Karmic Coala runing on an IBM thinkpad X.41. Works great. My home network is all ethernet so I have a router , CAT5 cable to laptop.A coupleof times I've had power outages The laptop carries on as it's on battery power. When the power comes back , the router restarts, it reconnects after a few minutes but the laptop doesn't reconnect to the network seamlessly. On some other Linux distro's I've had running /etc/init.d/network restart will refresh everything. On Ubuntu I have /etc/init.d/networks but running restart In the end I needed to reboot the laptop to get the network back on.Perhaps this is a power management issue with the laptop ethernet card i.e losing power powers down the card and it never comes back up properly.

Ubuntu Networking :: Rt2860 Kismet Power Always Says 0 How To Load Module?

Jun 26, 2010

I have a WS- something or other by gigabyte, it has the "ralink rt2860" chipset according to lspci.

It works well the only problem is in kismet or airodump-ng the power always shows as 0.

In the kismet.conf i had to set the source to rt2500, it does not seem to like rt2860 or rt2x00.

In airodump-ng it always says "chipset: ralink 2560pci" and "driver:rt2500"

Is there any way i can use the rt2x00 drivers, would they allow for more things ?

Whats funny is that network manager can see the signal strenght of all the sources.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Connection Lost When Using Battery Power?

Dec 18, 2010

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition on a Dell Mini 9 - worked around a few wireless issues on setup and connectivity has been fine, but now I'm suddenly losing wifi when I unplug my AC adapter. It still shows me as connected, but when I try to view web pages in Chromium, it will load pages for a few seconds, and then suddenly cuts out - though it still looks like it's trying to load the page.

It's the same if I boot on battery power - it will keep trying to connect to wifi but won't until I plug in the adapter. I'm assuming this probably has something to do with my power management preferences in battery mode, but I'm still pretty new to Ubuntu, and I'm not sure how to fix this. I've played with the options in power management, but I have a feeling there has to be more. Can anyone help me? This has been really frustrating.

Ubuntu Networking :: Slow Wireless Connection When On Battery Power

Mar 21, 2011

I have a problem with my wireless where when running the laptop from the battery the connection is very slow. When the laptop is connected to the power supply everything is fine, but the moment it's disconnected and run on the battery the speed drops when browsing the Internet or accessing files on other computers on my network.

The laptop is a Samsung SF310
Wireless chipset is BCM4313

Code:
02:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01)
Subsystem: Wistron NeWeb Corp. Device 051a
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16
Memory at f4c00000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: wl
Kernel modules: wl

In attempt to fix this I installed the latest drivers from the Broadcom site using this guide. When I enabled these drivers everything worked well. I did speed test and got the same speeds I get when connected via Ethernet:

Ping 51ms
DL 4.31
UL 0.65

So I set the drivers to load at boot using this forum post as a guide as the steps in the Broadcom guide didn't work and rebooted the laptop on battery power. The wireless connected fine, but the slow speed problem had returned. Running a speed test got the following results

Ping 235
DL 0.54
UL 0.30

So I ran iwconfig when running from battery and then from power supply.
Code:
xxxx@xxxx ~ $ iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
eth1 IEEE 802.11 Access Point: Not-Associated
Link Quality:5 Signal level:215 Noise level:160
Rx invalid nwid:0 invalid crypt:0 invalid misc:0
As can be seen the signal quality is 5 and signal level 215

Code:
xxxx@xxxx ~ $ iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
eth1 IEEE 802.11 Access Point: Not-Associated
Link Quality:5 Signal level:214 Noise level:164
Rx invalid nwid:0 invalid crypt:0 invalid misc:0

And when connected via the power supply the signal level is 5 and signal level 214. There may be some kind of power saving issue, although there are no relevant setting in the BIOS and I can't see anything in the various wireless control pannels. I have other wireless drivers and there are no problem with those.
