I've been having this problem since 10.6 released, but have until now been successful with the "just use Thunderbird" response. My sendmail server hasn't been changed, but as clients upgrade from OSX 10.5 to 10.6 suddenly mail.app will no longer connects to send SMTP messages through the server. (IMAP connections to the same server using the same user/pass combinations work perfectly) When I look at the logs, things basically stop right after the STARTTLS command.
Google indicates alot of people are having similar problems, but I'm not seeing any solutions. Do any of you administrate sendmail servers where some of your clients are using Apple's Mail.app on Snow Leopard, and if so what settings are you using? At this point, I'm happy to make changes to the server to accommodate Apple's issue, I have too many Mac users connecting to my server. I just can't figure out what to change. I've enabled virtually every possible login authentication combination, and none of them work.
I come back to everybody cause I don't find an explicit how to do this!In our internal network, I've created an email server with Postfix and Dovecot. (Just for internal domain, no needed to go outside)
But I've some server which use linux too. All are on CentOS 5.5.I would like to configure these servers to use my internal mail server for send email, and not configure sendmail or postfix on each server.
What I've to do exactly on each servers to use it? I search on the web but I don't find something very explicit
I am trying to configure sendmail to use GMail to send emails. I followed the instructions at[URL]lay-howto.html but it failed. After I was done with these instructions, I think I "cooked" sendmail... Can no longer configure it and it seems that I will have to start from scratch again...How to get sendmail to send emails using Gmail's SMTP server?
We host our own mail server on our Fedora box. We would like for our field people using there smart phones to be able to send and receive mail. Receiving is no problem but sending creates problems with relaying and port assignments. Is there any way sendmail can be configured to allow these mobile phone users (AT&T, Verizon) to send mail through our server?

We have one major problem in our dedicated online mail server. In this mail server both sendmail and qmail running for send and receive mails. In this server I can able to send mail to other domain like Gmail and yahoo its works fine. But I am not receiving any mails from other domains. And automatically I got telnet localhost 25 connections refused error. When I send mail from my webmail I got like this error Connection refused Server replied: 111 can't open SMTP stream. This is I got when I send mail from webmail. I am using centos 5.2 version.
I've configured postfix on my linux server. For the most part, I got everything working (IMAP, apache, etc) but for some reason, I can't get postfix to work remotely. Postfix works locally to send mail. E.g. when I telnet locally to port 25. However, when I try to telnet from outside, the connection closes almost immediately. I've looked at various configuration options and tuning enhancements but found nothing helpful. Here is my config:
Code:
main.cf:
#See /usr/share/postfix/main.cf.dist for a commented, more complete version # Debian specific: Specifying a file name will cause the first # line of that file to be used as the name. The Debian default

In my home we have got an internet connection which is connected to desktop machine having two network cards. One card is connected to external internet and second is used for internal LAN.
We have installed a proxy on desktop machine so that we can connect to internet through proxy. So we are not able to telnet to smtp.gmail.com 587 from laptops of internal LAN laptop installed with ubuntu and fedora.
At the same time we are able to ping smtp.gmail.com from the desktop machine which is exposed to internet.
I want to automate email through shell script using smtp.gmail.com.
There is an requirement, intranet people they may not have internet access but they want to send mail to external domain(internet),but in that intranet network one machine can have internet access. Is there any solution for this requirement.
I have set up postfix and dovecot as per the Ubuntu anual and appear to have a functioning mail server.Using the sendmail command I can send mail and I receive mail in ~/Maildir. Using Thunderbird I can read any mails received but I can't send any mail from Thunderbird. I have tried with both STARTTLS and SSL/TLS and whilst I get the prompt for a password I keep getting the message my password for my server is wrong.I have ports 25, 465, 587 and 993. Is that all the right ports? When I ping my domain name it resolves to my router name whereas I believe it should resolve to my IP. Could there be a problem with my host file? I've had a play but to no avail. Here's the error in mail.log.
I'm running SUSE linux Server version 11. I want to configure mail server with postfix & cyrus-imap. For that, i have read many documents in Internet by i met issues. I'm running DNS in this server & it's ok Now I cannont send mail through command line.
i have an server which have my site on it, server have an public ip and site works fine..the thing that i done to enable mail server is :
1.select sendmail option as mail server(in joomla). 2.install and configure sendmail in server (which ubuntu installed on it )
**if i use my website locally mail server works fine i can send message and receive , but when i use web site from Internet mail server seems not working at all
i basically had this system installed for our mail system. The setup is as follows:
1. Operating system installed is Debian ver. 5.0.3
2. Roundcube is installed as a webmail(if its right for me to say that)
3. The server is hosted right here at our offices
4.The server uses relay system to send mail i.e. relays all our mails to our ISP
That all i can say about the configurations becuase thats as much as i understand it.The problem now is that we are not able to send or recieve emails from both internal and external.I tried to send mail to a collegue in the office who is on our local LAN,Roundcube says sent successfully but the person does not recieve the mail.i tried to send to my yahoo address but nothing.I dont know where these mails have been trapped.
i'm trying to send a mail with "mail" on my cent os console , but without success. In Suse it's quite simple with "mail": mail -r sendersaddress@domain -s "subject" targetaddress@domain </tmp/filewithcontent
1. Webserver (Centos 5.5) 2. Mail server (Centos 5.5)
We have configured autossh successfully to create/manage the ssh tunnel into mail server in order to dump all emails to localhost port.
To auto start autossh in boot time we have included following into /etc/rc.d/rc.local,
Quote:
So whenever our web application wants to send out emails it dump all emails to localhost:33465 port, easy piecy, all are working great
Now we have a requirement that logwatch reports should get delivered via the same ssh tunnel rather than installing postfix and configuring as a relay.
Could someone check this for me? I tried to send mail to localhost (ubuntu server) but when i tried to view it in log file, it gave me this:
Code: xanios@ubuntu:~$ tail -f /var/log/mail tail: cannot open `/var/log/mail' for reading: No such file or directory tail: no files remaining in my /etc/postfix/main.cf: Code: myhostname = ubuntu alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases
my postfix to send and recive external emails, but many recive in trash folder.Other programer say me that is need some configurations in postfix with and dovecot to work, but i dont know what! This is my first time configuring a linux server at this week.
my main.conf sample_directory = /usr/share/doc/postfix-2.3.3/samples readme_directory = /usr/share/doc/postfix-2.3.3/README_FILES
Has thunderbird (recent version) have a "TEST" function ? basically, i'm trying to send messages, with 20+ accounts (different emails, but one domain / SMTP server). one account works fine - the other one doesn't. i go to my "outgoing server" & everything is fine - usernames / ports etc..) The settings for each account do show the right outgoing server. If i 'send later' & close down thunderbird, 7 re-open - it asks me for my password again (which it saves), & then it is able to send the email.
QUESTION :- is there a TESt option that will test each & EVERY account in one timeslot ? Ie, will go through each email address - sends an email to itself (the same address), & sends it. it will then try the server again, to see if the email was received. & then give me a single report, of all the incorrect settings.(I've tried this 1 email account half a dozen times tonight & i dont know *WHY* its not sending on the 1st go.. )
I have a bit of problem setting up sendmail on my server. I've gotten so far that I can send mail from my mail server and relay mail from my LAN computers through it. Also, local delivery seems to be working. The problem is receiving mail from other domains. When I send mail from my gmail account to any user in my domain the mail gets delivered back to gmail as it exceeds the max hop count. The mail gets bounced between my ISP mailserver which I use as smart host and between my server. The problem seems to be that my mail server won't accept any mail it is supposed to receive.
I'm trying to set up a basic smtp server on my local computer that I can send basic, unencrypted email through on port 25. I installed postfix, and I chose the following options:
Internet Site, System Mail Name: localhost Root and postmaster mail recipient: I left this blank For other domains to accept mail, I entered : NONE, localhost No force synchronous mail updates Local networks: 127.0.0.0/8
Installing PHPMailer v.5 (server running php5) with SMTP function. I have installed the main files in mail directory such as: # class.phpmailer.php: This is the main class file which contains the various email functions.# class.smtp.php: This additional class allows SMTP authentication.I don't think I need class.pop3.php as I'm sending mails server side (smtp)and should be accepted by most IP's pop3 servers.
All my mail functions work great with SMTP and I can send and receive. My problem is that my recipients only receive mail from admin@domain instead of "My Website Name" Sounds simple enough, I know and I have made adjustments to class.phpmailer.php and have inserted my specific mail attributes for my site such as mail address, mail from, smtp server, user/pass for smtp, etc.PHP Mailer v5.0 class.phpmailer.php is a very long script and I only found a couple of places to put the FROM address as follows:
I'd like to have anything that tries to send mail locally on my machine (including crontab reports for instance) to be handled by my ISP's smtp server instead of my machine acting like it's own SMTP server. I've spent around 15 hours trying to figure out how to do this and I keep either getting into things that I don't understand, or hitting brick walls (for instance, I found nullmailer, but after installing it, it seemed like it would only work on Unix) Is there an application like nullmailer which I can use as my MTA to forward all internal mail to a different SMTP?
I am able to telnet to the server via a remote connection, but for some reason, it will not accept mail. ere is the bounce back email I am getting.Quote:This is the mail system at host smtp.mydomain.net.I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could notbe delivered to one or more recipients.
