First macbook. I've managed to get everything I really need running except sound. I'm 5-year ubuntu user so if anyone asks for any system info I'll probably be able to manage it. This is the only sound-related entry I could find in lspci.

Is there any way I can get sound working on a MacBook Pro 6,1 in Lucid without breaking the Wifi or Nvidia drivers?

I got a new (used) Sony Vaio VGN-SZ440, I installed Slackware-current x86. Everything pretty much worked out of the box, including wireless. The only thing that is not working is my sound (It is not muted I already checked :-p). Here is my lspci output:

I have installed the necessary file on both the laptops and have also set up the exports file as per instructions on the Arch Linux wiki.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I installed I noticed no sound was emanating from my computer and a red light coming out the headphone jack. s there any reason why there wouldn't be any working sound? Everything else seems to be working fine. I installed the additional drivers but the only ones listed were graphics and wireless.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI think it's the HDA Intel anyway. In alsaconf it comes up with, 'hda-intel Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller', and I select that one. When I do, 'aplay /home/emor/sample.wav' it says it's playing but I don't here any audio. I've tried various configurations on both the alsamixer and the graphical XFCE sound mixer, and neither have really done anything. [URL]...

The sound on my system is really low. I am using a Toshiba Tecra M3 laptop with Intel sound.
Here is my uname info:
Code:

I tested both Rhythmbox and Gnome Mplayer. Both are low when using headphones and very low when using the laptop speakers. I checked the alsa configuration via alsamixer -c0 and everything looks good. I have attached my alsa-info.txt file.
My sound does not work on my HP laptop I have "Ati mobility radeon HD2600 256mb" as graphic/sound card pherhaps I must install the drivers for the card manually? And how do I do that?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI purchased a macbook (for cheap) without a hard drive and decided to go with Ubuntu 10.10 on my new drive.
This laptop has serious overheating issues. I installed the sensor applet and the fans are not coming on, even when the core temp exceeds 167(f). The base of the laptop becomes hot enough to fry an egg on.
I'd like to find a way to make the fans come on in an automated fashion (without having to do it at the command line each time I want them to come on). I'd even be happy with them on all the time if that will resolve the issue, as the laptop overheats until shut down / freeze every time I use it.
I installed ubuntu 10.10 in my macbook white 7,1 and as always I am impressed with the support of most of the hardware. Almost everything works, but the sound and the brightness control do not. The sound one is the one that I am more concerned about. I tried to solve it using the documentation for MacBook Pro 7,1 Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) but the solution did not work.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook Pro 8,3 w/ Natty installed on it and noticed on the wiki [URL]... it says sound only comes out of the right speaker. I just want to share that I got stereo sound on my machine by adding `options snd-hda-intel model=mbp55' to the end of `/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf' and rebooting. I didn't see a solution anywhere else. I haven't done extensive testing, I just know that now I have sound coming out both speakers (and headphone speakers) at balanced volume levels.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have no sound on my macbook pro 17", intel core. I have searched and searched and have not found a solution. I have never yet had sound since I installed ubuntu. I am using 11.04 now.So far, I have edited the document /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and added this line:options snd-hda-intel model=mbp55, which did nothing. Also ALSAmixer has all the channels turned up all the way except for S/PDIFI don't think it is a hardware problem because when I play an MP3 file in VLC, in the visualization that would normally show the ups and downs of the sound playback, I get a flat line (not sure if that makes sense).

View 5 Replies View RelatedI manged to have it working fine in Ubuntu 9.04 but the sound settings in gnome have changed too much and I can no longer reconfigure the sound system to work as before. For now I can only hear music through the internal speaker(s) while previously with 9.04 I was able to use the built-in audio jack and use my external speakers. What was even better was that I was able to toggle the between the built-in speakers and the external speakers by plugin/unplugin the speakers jack. Today all of this nice features are gone. What's the proper way for configuring sound with pulseaudio? Should I disable pulseaudio?

Im having an odd problem with an installation of 10.04 on my Macbook (the white one with firewire, dunno which generation). Sound works fine from built-in speakers, but when i plug in headphones i have no sound at all..
The levels in alsamixer are all fine, so no problem there..
One of the left speaker on my macbook 2,1 has no sound. The channel is not muted in alsamixer. If you go into sound preferences and change the card to a surround 4.0. The both the front and rear right speakers work. Front is higher sound (tweeter) rear is the lower sounds. (mid-sub) however on the left side the left front does nothing. to the naked ear you can tell not as much sound is coming out of the left side. one speaker is not functioning. is there a fix for this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI used fedora 11 with no problem. Then I did a fresh install of fedora 12. The laptop started making some strange noise something like water dripping or like that. I noticed this long back but I couldn't describe the problem so I waited if I can find something on my own. Even now I'm not sure if anyone can understand whats going on. Just trying my luck. To make sure it was not my laptop( hardware ) problem I went back to fed 11, no strange sounds there. Same thing happened when I upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10 from Ubuntu 9.04. I'm no expert in operating systems. I do not know what is common in Ubuntu 9.10 and fedora 12 , but they are giving the same problem.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've used Katapult to launch applications on both my laptop and desktop boxes for a long time, but yesterday it stopped working on my laptop. It will bring up folders, but not apps. I checked the settings and compared the katpultrc file with the one on my desktop (they are the same) and also compared katapult.la and katapult.so from /usr/share/kde3 and they are the same also. I'm not having any other problems, and it doesn't appear to be a problem with katapult itself, and I'm getting no warnings of any kind. Also I have done the same package updates on both machines.

Although I had 11.04 running smoothly on my Macbook 4,1 (OS X 10.5) since it came out, I never bothered to actually test the iSight camera. So I fired up Cheese, but it claimed that it could not detect any webcam installed. gstreamer-properties does not list iSight either.I followed this article step by step: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Ma...am/AppleiSight. After installing the firmware I pulled from my OS X partition, neither Cheese nor gstreamer picked up on my camera. As a matter of fact, I investigated further and realized that /dev/video0 does not even exist. The firmware seems to be recognized by the kernel, according to dmesg:Quote:
usbcore: registered new interface driver isight_firmwareI repeated the procedure in the article again after purging the firmware-tools package, but no dice. I resorted to booting back into OS X to use my webcam, but as you can imagine this is not very convenient heh.Does anyone have any advice as to where to go from here?EDIT: I ended up uninstalling the firmwire, since it caused my Macbook to become unresponsive (purple screen of death?) every time after coming out of sleep. I haven't found a solution for that either. For now I guess I'll keep my OS X on a partition to use iSight until something comes up to resolve this issue.
