Fedora :: Laptop Makes Some Strange Sound - 12 - Like Water Dripping ?
Dec 28, 2009
I used fedora 11 with no problem. Then I did a fresh install of fedora 12. The laptop started making some strange noise something like water dripping or like that. I noticed this long back but I couldn't describe the problem so I waited if I can find something on my own. Even now I'm not sure if anyone can understand whats going on. Just trying my luck. To make sure it was not my laptop( hardware ) problem I went back to fed 11, no strange sounds there. Same thing happened when I upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10 from Ubuntu 9.04. I'm no expert in operating systems. I do not know what is common in Ubuntu 9.10 and fedora 12 , but they are giving the same problem.
im using Ubuntu 10.04 and whenever i enable it and try to iniate it it just makes my screen black =/. It sucks because i really loved that feature (on 64-bit btw)
I have just installed squeeze 6.0.2 amd64 and noticed when I use k3b to burn/verify a disc, when it has finished burning the media it plays a sound, and rather sound is played which sounds very crackly/muffled.I do not remember this on ubuntu, and I cannot say for sure but I dont recall this happening on squeeze 6.0.1.
Sound plays perfectly in all other applications, no problems whatsoever. This is not a big deal, I just dont remember this happening. I know this isnt the most detailed posting but does anyone have any idea what this could be? I even tried to reinstall k3b through synaptics and the problem still persists.
I recently started having a strange problem: whenever skype makes a sound, e.g. when a contact logs in or out, rhythmbox puts itself into paused mode. this is even reproducible. when I go in to the skype settings, sound devices, and click on "Make a test sound", rhythmbox pauses whatever song it's playing. here's some debug output:
I've got an urgent problem! I had some viruses as my program told me and in the end I had to restart my eee pc!Problem is now after it starts and you click on the log me in icon for the netbook it makes the nice hello sound, takes some time and then does the shut down (goodbye) sound. So basically the netbook booted already right? But I cant log myself in! What can I do?
I have been running Fedora 12 on my HP Proliant DL140 Server for about 6 months now without any issues, yesterday I ran yum update and rebooted afterwards but the server now wont boot
Is there a program that can simulate chinese watercolor style painting? I know gimp can apply some brushes and has water color, but in chinese watercoloring, you load different colors at the same brush stroke (kinda like a gradient with one color at the tip and changing towards the middle of the brush). I haven't been successful with gimp's brushes to have a nice smooth watercolor or painting stroke, it looks still computerized and "stepped"
After becoming somewhat disillusioned with a number of other distro's I decided to turn to debian and I must say I like it! Install was a breeze, I even did my own partitioning instead of letting the installer handle it ... I've since come across one of the same problems that I encountered on all the other distro's I've tried so far.I'm using:
Squeeze 2.6.32-trunk-amd64, Intel Core2 Quad (Q9550) Asus Pro Turbo main board,
[code]....
It seems that simply unplugging all USB devices and rebooting was all I needed to do.The other sound issue I have (that also occurs on a number of other distro's) happens when I launch Blender. If I have music playing when blender is launched the sound cuts out. If I kill the music player and restart it the sound is back.Below is my audio controller;
I'm having a very faint but noticeable electric-like buzzing/grinding. It is not the hard drive but sounds very similar.
It occurs when i move scroll bars, or drag windows. It is highly replicable.
The only other time this has happens is when i install KDE which resulted in me reinstalling. Something id prefer to avoid. I haven't installed KDE this time, but this seems to have started immediately after replacing my fstab file which i accidentally deleted. That's the only thing i can think of.
I've upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 and everything works fine but. I use skype (2.1.0.81) a lot and I can make calls and receive them as normal with normal mic/sound levels. When I get a notification the sound is so faint its almost inaudible. Clicking "Test sound" in notifications has the same effect - almost inaudible sounds (I thought they were not working at all until I turned the volume right up).
I tried completely removing and reinstalling skype through synaptic to no avail. All the Sound devices in skype are set to "PulseAudio Server (local)" - there are no other options coming up. "Make a test call" works fine and the skype sounds are all at the expected level. Real calls are fine too, so long as I notice them and respond. "Make a test sound" is silent.
Likewise, testing the event in Notifications plays the sound really quietly. Allocating different sounds makes no difference - the level is still really low so I can't work around the problem that way. Anyone know how I can correct the ringer volume without blowing out my eardrums on an actual call?
For some time now, my laptop makes a quick but loud buzz sound when I shutdown or restart it. Muting my sounds doesn't fix it. Before, it didn't do this. It just started one day and got worse till it happened everytime I shutdown or restart.
Going to preferences > sounds > changing sound theme to no sounds helped a bit and after doing this, it doesn't happen all the time anymore. This is quite disturbing especially when I'm in libraries. What worries me the most though is that it might affect my speaker.
My problem is I downloaded a bunch of games, some work fine, others have no sound, others have sound for a while then have buzzing, screeching noises and can go mute and some of the games freeze. About 7 out of 10 games have this problem. I also have compiz fusion with full animations running with the globe and everything else is running smooth and fine. My computer has a intel media graphics card and its 1.73 ghz celeron processor with 1.5 gigs of ram. This is all just a big issue with games and other programs are fine.

I am getting horrid sound distortions whenever I try to play a dvd. The video will play, but there are frequent popping and squeaking sounds. This problem does not appear when playing saved avi files. I have tried both movie player and vlc, getting the same effect. It does not seem to be a hardware problem, as it does not appear when running windows on the same machine. Nor was this a problem on this hardware using earlier versions of Ubuntu. Changing dvd's, using a different dvd drive, even ripping a dvd to an iso and playing the iso with vlc did not help.
The sound on my system is really low. I am using a Toshiba Tecra M3 laptop with Intel sound.
Here is my uname info: Code: 2.6.32.9-67.fc12.i686 #1 SMP Sat Feb 27 10:00:02 UTC 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
I tested both Rhythmbox and Gnome Mplayer. Both are low when using headphones and very low when using the laptop speakers. I checked the alsa configuration via alsamixer -c0 and everything looks good. I have attached my alsa-info.txt file.
My sound does not work on my HP laptop I have "Ati mobility radeon HD2600 256mb" as graphic/sound card pherhaps I must install the drivers for the card manually? And how do I do that?
The hard drive is accessed every few seconds with OpenSUSE and when it is there is a click sound when it is first accessed. I have other distros which dont make the clicking sound when they access the hard drive. I need to prevent opensuse from making the click sound when it does whatever it's doing. Im not even sure what it's doing or what settings to change, and most importantly how do i make it not click? Maybe i could copy settings over from another distro if i knew which settings to replace.
I am running fedora 14 64 bit on Dell Inspiron. All of a sudden sound from speakers is not coming. They work in windows. I am suspecting some update with pulseaudio. However, earplugs work.
i installed compiz-fusion and activated the water effect. when i use the keystrokes to initiate it or toggle the rain, nothing happens. i've tried to find information on how to fix it to no avail
I have downloaded SUSE 11.2 Genome CD and trying out in my PC before install. Whenever I unmaximize/maximize a window it shakes kind of like Images in water. Is this some special effects which can be turned off?before installling as I have never seen this thing in Windows XP.
I inherited a water damaged Samsung NC10. A glass of water was spilled on the keyboard. I have dried the system out and it is now booting without issues. My only problem is that the keyboard has one key (P) that will not work at all. Every other key is fine. I removed the keyboard and reseated the connector ribbon but this has had no positive effect. I plugged a USB keyboard in and (P) works. Do you think that this means that the original keyboard is dead and should be replaced to have a fully functioning NC10? Or is it possible that water damage has made it so that no matter how many NC10 keyboards I plug in, it will have the same problem?
I just bought sony vaio laptop(EB16) couple of days before.I had window 7 OS. Two days before i downloaded Fedora-12-x86_64-DVD & installed in my PC.Everything is working fine except when i play any video or audio file such as .avi, .mp3 from any player such as vlc player, movie player ,xine etc , i don't get any sound.I tried to search this problem in internet but still i am not able to resolve this problem.
My Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 running Fedora 8 continues to play sound out of the laptop speakers when external speakers are plugged in (and no sound out of the external). What can I do to diagnose/fix this? code...
i am working on a client server real-time gui application written in C++ for Redhat. There is an issue with this application that it makes the system hang. i am not able to sort out the issue as it happens randomly. Sometimes with in half an hour it makes the system hang, sometimes it takes 4 or 5 hours when it receives realtime data. Is there any way to debug this issue. I tried valgrind..but it was not of much use..
I'm trying to control the access in my server. I did an application that can read audit logs and sys logs with the purpose to send me a report by email with important information about the user. It's a SH file. My problem is start the program when someone makes a ssh connection.
