it has surround speakers and even a subwoofer. unfortunately only the two side speakers work. how to make ALL my speaker system work?

Feb 5, 2010This is a very new desktop system using an ASUS mainboard with built on sound. I've never had sound working properly and have re-installed many times. One sound will play (KDE4 desktop sound, Amarok audio, even games under WINE) but when a second sound plays, it stops the first one (and plays perfectly), but then the first app is no longer able to play sound. I tried to get Skype going today and have some very interesting results.
It works but on a test call my voice sounds like I'm going for the "Extortionist of the Year" award! Have a listen here if you feel like a quick laugh - [URL]. Great effect for issuing ransom demands, but not too useful when calling family. I recorded it via my camera so the quality is not fabulous, and the screeching noise is the from the birds in the background. Here is the requested information for diagnosing sound problems -

Debian Hardware :: Unable To Get Sound Output Working Properly
Nov 4, 2010my cousin recently brought me an old dell to see if I could get it working.he mainly wants to use this machine to record himself playing guitar.I immediately tried installing ubuntu, but found it to be unbearably slow.the computer is on the verge of being an antique at 1ghz and 256mb of ram.so I started looking for alternatives, and decided to give debian a shot since I'm familiar with ubuntu and know that it is based on debian.I installed Debian Lenny from the netinst ISO and find it to be much quicker booting and loading programs than ubuntu.I will most likely put debian on my desktop when I'm finished getting this poor old dell set up.
I'm unable to get sound output working properly.I have checked that the volume is not muted. while using pidgin, after sending a message the "message sent" sound starts "skipping" like a scratched cd and the only way to get it to stop is to close the progam completely. I am unable to hear sound or watch videos with totem (and most likely other players, but I have not tested any yet).the files load audio files show their tag information and the length of the track and videos load the first frame but the file never actually plays. when I try to record with Sound Recorder, the application locks up.when I try to record with Audacity the software doesn't stop responding, but also doesn't record.I tried un-muting the microphone (monitor) to check that the microphone I have still works, and can hear it over the speakers, so this leads me to believe that my hardware is in good working order, but that I have something configured improperly.

May 30, 2010My sound on Runescape stops and picks up, is very choppy and annoying. I'm using Debian "Lenny". Sound on everything else works just fine (Flash, VLC, etc...)

Jun 11, 2011I was curious if anyone has dual booted Ubuntu on this model iMac, (Mid 2011 with 4gb ram, 2.5GHz Intel Core i5 processor, the current model in the apple store).
When I dual booted on my MacBook I came across a plethora of problems, such as the sound not working properly or the wireless card not being supported.
Does anyone know if these same problems exist for the iMac or is everything business as usual?

Fedora :: Trash Not Working Properly?
Aug 9, 2009When I delete things from my home directory, or from my desktop,my trash can on the desktop stays empty, and the Empty Trash in the right-click menu stays disabled.The files disappear from view, but the disk space remains labeled as used.The only way I can empty my trash is through the trash on the panel. Apr 3, 2010I'm running fedora 12 64-bit with XFCE desktop. Updated to firefox 3.5.9 yesterday and that hasn't solved my issue... Just recently it is SO slow. I would even say its on ie standards I sometimes sit with pages "loading" only to find that the url soon changes to "search history and bookmarks" and the bottom left corner message says "stopped" - its most unreliable. at first i thought it was my sometimes dodgy internet connection but i have done several speed tests and after waiting ages for the page to load, the speed test comes up with about 2Mbps. This speed is not translated to the speed firefox is loading pages - several times i've had to stop all tabs loading and then reload them just because firefox seems to have forgotten its meant to be looking on the internet and "thinks" putting a message "loading" in the tab will do

Dec 5, 2010I am running 10.10 on a 21.5 inch imac. I just ran some updates and rebooted, turned on rhythmbox to play some tunes and realized there is no sound. Tried ....., no yield. Tried a different user account still no sound. SO I rebooted into osx and I have sound. Its therefore a software issue for sure. I plugged in headphones and changed to the appropriate output in the settings manager, sound came out, but out of phase. What going on here? any ideas would be awesome.

Fedora :: Volume Control Not Working Properly
Sep 24, 2009I am having issues with Fedora 11 and audio. I have pulse audio running and configured. The volume control on the top panel (GDE) works properly, but i do not hear any volume until I move it up past 50%. I tested it with the advanced volume controls opened and it even shows the master volume not moving until the volume slider on the panel reaches at least 50%. Can anybody help with fixing this. It is very annoying. Thanks in advance for the support.

Sep 29, 2009I am currently using Fedora 11 KDE as my primary operating system at work, but i am having a little bit of troubles getting an audio player to work properly. I am trying to play music off of a separate primary FAT32 file system (which is my shared drive amongst all my operating systems), but when i attempt to load the files via JuK, i receive this error: cannot find demultiplexer plugin for MRL.
I have been playing around with other players as well, and it seems like the only other player which will actually load up the media on this separate partition is Banshee, but doesn't seem to want to play it.

Aug 1, 2009I just installed F11 on my new laptop (Acer Timeline 3810T) and I have the following issue when adjusting volume. The keyboard shortcuts work, but they don't raise/lower the volume smoothly, instead they do it in 4 or 5 increments total. What's weird is that the notification that appears in the screen when I adjust the volume (the whitish square with a picture of a speaker, I think it's part of Compiz) shows the the volume changing in small increments, but when I get to the 3rd or 4th little increment from the right the volume is already muted. If I look at the alsa volume controls at the same time, I see it changing by the 4 or 5 big increments.

Fedora Networking :: Wireless Connection Is Not Working Properly
Jan 27, 2011I have a dual boot (XP Pro and F13) laptop. This laptop has a Ralink RT2501USB Wireless Adapter which works perfectly fine on XP. But when it comes to F13, adapter only works properly when I am physically next to my router. When I move few feet away the strength of the connection drops from 100% to around 40%. But even though 40% should be okay for slow connection to internet, I can't get any internet access at all. I have tried three different routers with same results on each.
When I boot same machine with windows XP, all works fine. I can move to any part of my house and I will still have the connection without any issues.I can see that RT73 driver is installed if I check in add remove program under system.I am not an expert but to me its seems that the drivers on F13 for RT2501USB are not as good as on windows?

Aug 9, 2011I've had this problem since I fresh installed Fedora on my laptop: I can play sounds fine, but I can't mute/make it louder or softer. I couple days ago (right after I installed) there was a notification saying there was an error with something in the sound and it was "falling back to default". Recently, the notification stopped popping up but the problem persists.
I'm not 100% positive as to what type of speakers my laptop has. I know they're made by JBL, but on Windows they're handled by "RealTek HD Audio Manager" and in Device Manager there's 2 different audio devices: Realtek High Definition Audio and ATI HDMI Audio. Neither of them say they're JBL brand. The most information I can get out of the specs of my laptop found on Newegg is that they're "JBL stereo speakers (1.5 watt x 2)".

Fedora :: Sound Almost Gone With Last Update?
Sep 9, 2009Today, Tues. Sep. 8 '09, I downloaded and installed the suggested updates but when I rebooted my sound was almost completely muffled.
Anyone else encounter this problem? Suggested fix? I'm using Fedora 11 and have kept up with all the updates.

Mar 1, 2010I am working for Fedora 12 installed on my laptop, and skype has worked. I was able to speak, able to listen and everything (besides some installation problems) was working fine.
Then I allowed Fedora to update(or bugfix or enhacement) some items of my system.
Now when I click on the loudspeaker symbol in the panel and open the mixer I see various tabe for sound input and output. Finally a good idea, and I even have a slide for skype!
But it does not work, I don't hear anything from skype (version 2.1.0.47).
I am able to record and playback via arecord/aplay, so in principal it should work. Any ideas what is wrong? Maybe a bug in a bugfix?

May 30, 2010I just upgrade my fedora 11 to fedora 12 using the dvd and upgrade setup. I know that there is Fedora 13 released however now I`m with fedora 12. My problem was with sound. Sometimes the sound is working, sometimes it is not working. Here is the information for my PC:

however If i killall pulseaudio or kill -9 PID of pulseaudio, pulse audio starts again and sound is working. I do not know every time when my sound goes off to kill the pulseaudio.
