Today, Tues. Sep. 8 '09, I downloaded and installed the suggested updates but when I rebooted my sound was almost completely muffled.
Anyone else encounter this problem? Suggested fix? I'm using Fedora 11 and have kept up with all the updates.
I wanted to hear some music from my audio library, so I turned on banshee, all the sudden the audio started to hear choppy, no unusual disk activity, no slowness of my laptop. I restarted the laptop since, I had a big Red buton that asked for it. After reboot tried listening to my music and the same result choppy audio. Tried rebooting again, same thing. Has anyone experienced this issue with audio after todays update? My laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad t61 2 GB RAM and fedora 11 x_64
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am working for Fedora 12 installed on my laptop, and skype has worked. I was able to speak, able to listen and everything (besides some installation problems) was working fine.
Then I allowed Fedora to update(or bugfix or enhacement) some items of my system.
Now when I click on the loudspeaker symbol in the panel and open the mixer I see various tabe for sound input and output. Finally a good idea, and I even have a slide for skype!
But it does not work, I don't hear anything from skype (version 2.1.0.47).
I am able to record and playback via arecord/aplay, so in principal it should work. Any ideas what is wrong? Maybe a bug in a bugfix?
Some more informations for the pros:
The audio stopped working since I upgraded my kernel from 2.6.35.6-45 to 2.6.36.6-48.
Is reinstalling alsa / pulse the only option ?
In the last week or 2 I've noticed something odd with the audio - but as I don't use the it very much and also accept all the ongoing updates from Fedora. Anyway symptoms are (using ALSA):
1. Volume control button on the laptop - when decreasing to less than ~50% the sound goes to zero.
2. Watching flash movies (in Firefox 3.5.1, Adobe 10 plug-in) (e.g. BBC, .....): they play fine for a few seconds then go choppy (audio and video) then video recovers but sound is lost (and the laptop volume control does not work at all after that).
3. Finding similar problems on replay of audio with kplayer and vlc on music files (ogg) that previously worked fine.
I've seen the pulseaudio and vlc fix thread but I don't use pulseaudio in kplayer, for example.

Before going to sleep I just closed my laptop without shutting down, but the next morning when I unlocked I had no sound. Does anybody see something suspicious in the updated packages?
I have had no sound on my thinkpad x40 for a week now, first with f12 and now with f13. Under f12 I had sound until about 5/26/2010. I first noticed I had lost sound after some updates around that date. After not being able to solve the problem, I upgraded to f13, but still no sound.
pulsesound seems to be working. If I run pavucontrol and go to the playback tab, and then run paplay /usr/share/sounds/k3b_success1.wav from a console, it registers on the pavucontrol tab, but I hear nothing. kmix shows nothing muted. alsamixer shows nothing muted. pavucontrol shows nothing muted.
there is no sound in Fedora14 after kernel update (kernel-2.6.35.11-83.fc14). when use kernel-2.6.35.10-74.fc14 , I can listen to music.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am experiencing sound problems after an upgrade to kernel 2.6.29.6-213.fc11.i686.PAE from kernel 2.6.29.5-191.fc11.i686.PAE in several games like Neverwinter Nights (linux binaries) and Warcraft III (PlayOnLinux). The sound stops and changes into a very choppy annoying sound. When I boot into the old kernel the problems are gone.

No problems, but afterwards my sound is completely gone and under hardware when I click the sound option on the speaker icon I get nothing listed under hardware.
I am using the HP DV2810 US notebook PC. With this being listed as the audio device.

I even messed up the os, when I reinstalled it the sound worked - brief glory, after the update it was gone again.
The headphones output works, but the normal output don't (audio, browsers, video).

I just installed the latest version of Ubuntu, and sound worked fine out of the box. I ran software update, and after the reboot, no sound. it knows there is a sound card, but no sound is coming out of any port. i done everything in the sound problems guide, and nothing worked. My soundcard is a Creative Sound Blaster Live! pci.

I installed Alsa mixer...nothing happens (when I open alsamixer, it is blank and if I select "Sound card properties" it crashes). I installed ac97_bus and souncore usinge modconf still no sound.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter many troubles with an update, I did a clean install if 9. 10 64-bit and it seems to work really well. First thing I did, was install the restricted codec and Tweak. using tweak I added Chromium and VLC. Then I right-click the speaker icon and un-muted the system. I then opened the Sound preference and in the hardware menu and disabled the Internal Audio and the R700 Audio Device. The Sound Blaster Live Value card is the only one highlighted..the Setting is "Analog Surround 5.0 Output". But still no sound!! When I did a fresh install of 9.04 the sound was automatically installed and I got the start up drum sound but nothing now. Kinda frustrating considering everything else seems to work fine compared to others even feels a little better than 9.04 but the sound thing is not cool.

I am running Ubuntu 8.04 on Toshiba NB100. Following an update about a month ago I now have no sound. A similar fault occurred after an update about 12 months ago. The patch I found on the Toshiba site doesn't work this time. I had a look at 10.04 and this time the sound was fine but no wireless so unfortunately this was no good as a solution.

View 7 Replies View RelatedAfter the last update in testing, (02/21/16), my sound stopped, (it did have an unfixed issue with the jacks and muting, things would be muted on reboot, until I plugged in something, then removed the plug from the front jack), I have never had a sound issue, so I am a lot lost here...
Here is what I know... If I use speaker-test as root, I hear sound... If I use speaker-test as my normal user account, (non root), I see no errors in the term window, but hear no sound... To me this says permissions issue, but I am a member of audio.
Technically it is a Realtek chipset I believe. Worked fine under 11.2. In the old days would just run alsaconf but I'm sure that is passe' by now.

My sound card is HDA Intel and uses snd_hda_intel driver.
Well, the gdm issue was pretty easy to solve. Just reinstalled NVIDIA video drivers in runlevel 3.
But sound seems to be a litle more dificult. Before I spend some hours, I would like to ask if some had the same problem.

I installed Amarok and the libxine plugins etc and was getting sound and able to play my mp3s, I let the update manager run and voila now without any sound. Machine is a gateway desktop using Realtek High Definition Audio.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSince about a few weeks, I have a problem with the sound on my Ubuntu Jaunty 64-bit. From any application it would simply provide noise instead of the real sound. The motherboard is working fine and providing sound under Vista. Initially, I then managed to change the settings in System-> Sound from Auto to one of the options, which provided for a decent test result. Now this is not working anymore either ... so I only get noise out of my speakers.

I have severe sound issues with my sound card. I am on a dell E1505, by now I am assuming there is some kinda update I have to get for this to work right, like the wireless driver. It's all static and causes programs to not run right, then when you go to close the programs effected, they freeze up..
