Fedora Hardware :: Latest Release Of ATI Catalyst Driver Compatible With F13?
Jun 23, 2010I'd like to know if the latest release of the ATI Catalyst driver is compatible with Fedora 13.

View 14 RepliesI have a laptop with ATI mobility 2400, and ralink wireless, I have not very experience with linux, I have tried many live-cds, ubuntu, opensuse, gentoo, fedora and all crash if I don't boot with the aditional option "clocksource=jiffies", i'm thinking of trying fedora 11 x64 but my main concern is about my ATI mobility VGA, in windows i need to install modded driver as original catalyst are not compatible with my system.

My intention is to install latest packages of FC11 release to FC9 despite of upgrading entire OS. is their any way to do this .... I have tried doing installing ssh package of FC11 release into FC9 OS but encountered with library errors.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm currently running F11 x86 and want to update to F13 x64, so a new drive and fresh install and copy all the config & data from old drive. and Prey, a lot....I'll be installing F13 x64 later this weekend, But F14 will be out in a few months then F15 and so on.I've tried the upgrade option (x86 to x86 in the past) on the install dvd but it doesn't work and I wind up with a broken install and have to do a fresh install after saving most of the import data and config files, but I usually missing something and get hosed. Part of the problem could be using Nvidia drivers for video and several applications installed from several different repos.I've never been able to safely uninstall the Nvidia driver and still have a working system, let alone upgrade to a newer version and still get a visible desktop.
I was thinking that couldn't I just edit a yum file and point it to a new repository and have it upgrade the machine with out all the fuss?I followed a procedure once or twice on how to do a inplace upgrade, but that didn't work either. I'd like to keep the machine running the latest bits, but with all the pain and suffering I need a simpler method to do it. Is there a procedure or process I can run or follow to keep Fedora in sync with the latest release with out having to continuously swap disks, reinstall and copy critical data files?
On my previous release *cough* if inenslave was needed, bonding instructions didn't work through aggregation did.
cat /etc/network/interfaces
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
auto bond0
iface bond0 inet static
address 192.168.1.149
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1
dns-nameservers 127.0.0.1
broadcast 192.128.1.255
post-up ifenslave bond0 eth0 eth1
pre-down ifenslave -d bond0 eth0 eth1
#auto wlan0
#iface wlan0 inet dhcp
#netmask 255.255.255.0
#wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
For some reason the unmentioned former disto, I could not get wireless networking under this configuration and a simple wlan0 interface, in case either cable were to sever it would retain a wireless. The bonding was done for speed, and I believe I can't get faster than mode=4.
I have install windows XP and Fedora-14-X86_64 on dual boot, I want to run other OS on fedora by using Virtual machine. I have download and installed VirtaulBox-4.0.0 successfully but I cannot able to start it. I got error about Vbox driver not installed [error code:1908]. I have also installed DKMS package, but also didn't work.
Finally I found the actual problem was kernel not compatible with latest version of vbox and I need to update my kernel-headers. I also meet that solution by using command: yum install binutils gcc make patch libgomp glibc-headers glibc-devel kernel-headers kernel-devel and its work fine, this command download and install the kernel compatible VirtualBox-3.2.* and now its works fine.
But problem is that when I booting my PC, it shows 3 options for entering OS rather then 2.
1. Fedora-14 (2.6.35.10.74.X86_64) [which is new one/updated after using that command]
2. Fedora-14 (2.6.35.6.45fc14.X86_64) [which is new one/updated after using that command]
3. Other [windows XP]
How can i delete that old version- No.2?

when RPMfusion will have the ATI catalyst driver for Fdedora 14 in its repo? If it is going to take a log time then I might just install it from ATI's site, but I'd rather not go through all the trouble if I don't have to.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just wanted to let everyone know that the latest 11.6 Catalyst driver has been released.I would like everyone to know that I have successfully installed the ATI drivers in gnome, but lost the usability of gnome-shell and automatically dropped back to the basic Gnome desktop. But I still have a usable system.

I am running a fresh installation of Fedora 13 on a 64 bit machine. I have an ATI Radeon HD5750 video card, and I want to install drivers for it. I have tried following Leigh's guide, but I have run into a problem. I cannot install kmod-catalyst because of the following error:
Code:
[root@localhost ~]# yum install kmod-catalyst
Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit

I've tried ubuntu distribution but I'm not so satisfied of it, a bit because of unity (gnome3 is a way worste of that but is much more smooth and fast) and because on my laptop i always go overheating. with ubuntu coretemp in idle are always on 60?C and go to 75?C watching a video...it was crazy! So I've tried fedora, and I'm so happy with it, also if it is a bit more complex to use! but with some tutorial and easylife i got it working.
I have a dell studio 1537 with intel core 2 duo and ATi Mobility Radeon HD 3450 I've installed catalyst driver and now I have weired color on the top bar...I know is a common prolblem there is a way to solve it? If I have to reinstall Mesa driver how can I remove the Catalyst ones? There is a tweak to have icon on desktop? or at least the trash? Cheese always crash when I use some effect, why? it is a problem of the already installed mesa driver? because I have this problem either with the standard driver installed on the system either with the catalyst and the webcam is laggy like a slow connection...
Is it possible for plymouth to work with the ATI Catalyst driver installed in Fedora 15 x86_64?
Is it that plymouth requires KMS and Catalyst doesn't provide it? With the nvidia driver, I could put a vga= line in grub and plymouth would run. Is there something similar for catalyst?
Has anyone been able to get latest catalyst drivers (10.3 or 10.5) working on kernel 2.6.34?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI had an earlier thread with wrong title and wasn't sure of the problem at the time. Now I have some details after checking all the threads about catalyst so posting a new thread. The problem: In korganizer (or To-Do list in kontact), whenever double-clicking or right-click->Edit.. a To-Do item in the summary list window, it crashes Xorg.

Fatal server error: Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). Server aborting I think it has something to do with the amd/ati catalyst driver and korganizer. My video card is XFX Radeon HD5670. I have Fedora 14 x86_64 latest update with xorg 1.9.1-3. I tried catalyst 10.9, 10.10, 10.11, and kernel 2.6.35.6-45.fc14.x86_64, 2.6.35.6-48.fc14.x86_64, 2.6.35.9-64.fc14.x86_64. Same problem.
If I use vesa driver, or from another PC with proprietary nvidia driver, no problem. Open source radeon driver works ok but sometimes the display turns off and I can't get back the display. And I need 3D. I scoured through the forum and followed the instructions exactly:

Is there such a schedule on this or other Fedora oriented sites? Livna currently installs 256.xx and I need 260.xx for CUDA 3.2 apps. Tried installing 260.19.04, 260.19.12 and 260.24 direct from Nvidia (while removing nouveau driver) on an updated F13 and startx fails.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought a laptop equipped with a 3DSPwireless network adapter, but I did not get a compatible driver, the one which I found on the company website (which is in Mandarin, I do not understand) seems to only work on a specific version kernel in ubuntu. This week, I came in contact with the support of 3DSP and got some sources to compile, but gives some errors, and I do not have much experience to solve them alone. Look at the output:

I downloaded the latest release, burned a disk and successfully booted. When it comes time to choose a partition I don't have the option of replacing the old release. I can install in parallel leaving both but can't use the whole disk. Interestingly enough I CAN replace the windows installation. Of course I already have Grub installed but I don't see how this would affect installing. I read the article here [URL] and it seems I may have missed a step. However it's implied I will lose the current Grub installation. Is that the case?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a dual-boot system (Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04) both 64-bit running on an HP pavilion laptop. I installed this dual-boot system only a few months ago and have continually added some new packages and updates with very few problems. However, now something has happened that really baffles me --- An error in the bootup process that I have never seen before and one that I have been unable to solve.
The problem I had been doing some programming (in Python) and after having the laptop on for several hours, I did a graceful shut down. Then, the next morning I turned on my laptop and the following is what happened:

I have tried the recommendation in B. to use 'chkdsk /r' in Windows. This took about 3 hours and had no effect on the error message. I also had made backups using "Back in time" which I tried (at least some of the directories) but none of these recovered directories had any noticeable effect on the error. This seems to be some basic device mounting problem that for some reason occurs only with the latest release and was triggered by some unknown event
how do i install the latest deluge release from the repository? Do Deluge have their own repository of the latest release? openSUSE repository does not have the latest release. I am in search of a bitorrent client. i have uninstalled Ktorrent, i dont want that. in windows i was used to Utorrent.

About a couple of days ago I'm sure I saw that Open Office was offering a DVD file download of their latest version. It was including versions for Win. Mac and Linux all on the one DVD. Now, after buying a DVD burner for my 'puter, I have been unable to find that information again.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've been searching for an hour or so and can't seem to find a concrete answer. My endgame is having Ubuntu successfully installed (either 9.10 or 10.04) with a fully working Ati 4870x2. I desperately need some help on finding the proper configuration of OS version and driver version. I installed 10.04 with the 10.3 driver package from ATI's site and it was a no go - I had nothing but problems.
I would like to have full 3d acceleration so I can play some games through Wine. This is a powerful card - I know ATI doesn't have a great reputation in the Linux world but I really hope there is a driver version I can install to get some good results. The rest of my specs are in my signature I need to install 64 bit Ubuntu to make use all of the system and video ram.
Lately (F14 and F15), Nvidia's drivers have been making my system freeze unexpectedly when running X. The only work around I have is reverting to an older driver (173.14.30). Although no freezes occur when using the older one, I need the latest one to run a few games sometimes. The odd thing is that when running these games within Wine while having the latest driver installed prevents the system from its usual freeze. I'd just like to solve this problem so I don't have to consistently revert back and forth from the two. I have a Nvidia Geforce 8800m gts and I am running F15 x86_64.

I have already downloaded and installed ati's catalyst for my ati mobility radeon 4570 (at least i think so, since there is the ATI catalyst control center in the system-> preferences menu). The problem is that i want to upgrade its version from 10.9 to 10.10. and since i want to firstly uninstall the previous version,I get this:
Code:
alexandros@alexandros-laptop:/usr/share/ati$ sh ./fglrx-uninstall.sh
sh: Can't open ./fglrx-uninstall.sh
The uninstall.sh doesn't exist.
I have Slackware 13.0 installed with the newest stable kernel (2.6.32.3) on an hp notebook with ati hd3200 igp. What happens is that when I try to buildpkg the catalyst drivers, it fails on the new kernel but not on the original one. I've been searching for a solution for a few days now. found a few that involved patching some files, but none seem to work or I can't make them work. I could probably use the binary installer but I would prefer not to.
Here's the output:
Code:

I tried to install the ATI proprietary driver for an HD 5800 (Catalyst for Linux 64 bit, v. 10.8). The two main instruction sites are:
SDB:Configuring graphics cards - openSUSE
SDB:ATI drivers - openSUSE
I chose the hard way method. I downloaded the driver. Restarted SuSE 11.3 in mode 3. And as SU followed the method above, including adding the zypper programmes (which found some already installed and which installed a whole lot more). When I then attempted to run the install (sh ./atidriver-install-10.8-x86.x86_64.run) and selected automatic mode. It completed 82% and stalled attempting to install "Postprocessing Kernel Module".
I pressed control c to kill the process and attempted to re-install using the manual mode and then using the build mode. In both instances, same outcome. When I rebooted, and entered my password, the desktop did not load but sent me back to the username/password page. I can't get back in. Does not matter as I have backed up my docs.
I decided to install the proprietary driver because the colours on the desktop corrupt after the 2nd boot following a clean install. i.e. on the initial boot the colours are fine. Second, this is the 3rd effort I have made to install the driver after a clean install of SuSE 11.3 and there is no change in outcome. So, my question: anyone any suggestion what is going on and how I can install the driver successfully? Or, do I not understand the new regime in SuSE 11.3 and should I not attempt to install a new driver.
