Fedora :: Korganizer To-Do Opening Crashes Xorg With ATI / AMD Catalyst Driver - Fatal Server Error
Dec 8, 2010
I had an earlier thread with wrong title and wasn't sure of the problem at the time. Now I have some details after checking all the threads about catalyst so posting a new thread. The problem: In korganizer (or To-Do list in kontact), whenever double-clicking or right-click->Edit.. a To-Do item in the summary list window, it crashes Xorg.
[Code]...
Fatal server error: Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). Server aborting I think it has something to do with the amd/ati catalyst driver and korganizer. My video card is XFX Radeon HD5670. I have Fedora 14 x86_64 latest update with xorg 1.9.1-3. I tried catalyst 10.9, 10.10, 10.11, and kernel 2.6.35.6-45.fc14.x86_64, 2.6.35.6-48.fc14.x86_64, 2.6.35.9-64.fc14.x86_64. Same problem.
If I use vesa driver, or from another PC with proprietary nvidia driver, no problem. Open source radeon driver works ok but sometimes the display turns off and I can't get back the display. And I need 3D. I scoured through the forum and followed the instructions exactly:
Xorg seems to crash randomly and with no real reason. Once it does, I can't restart it. If I try to restart it with GDM, nothing will happen. However once it crashes, Ubuntu's low graphics mode window pops up. Telling it to reconfigure the xorg config seems to do nothing for my problem. I will still crash after words.
Right now I'm running in an earlier kernel, hoping this will keep it from crasgubg
My issue began with my resolution changing to 800x600 in Karmic Koala and then my inability to change it back to anything else. In my haste to fix it before going to work this morning I loaded a new xorg.conf without backing up the old xorg.conf with data not relevant for my monitor and now I'm in limbo. The good news, I hope, is that I also run 8.04 on the same computer so I do have access to what I hope is proper xorg.conf / I've modified the existing xorg.conf file and I'm still getting the "low graphics mode" message (EE) problem parsing the config file and (EE) Error parsing the config file. Fatal Server Error: no screens found.
after I installed graphical ATI drivers for my Ubuntu distribution version 10.10 running on a Acer laptop, it told me to restart and since then I cannot boot GNOME. Whenever I start the laptop, I just get a command prompt with username and password. I can browse through my files using changedir and other commands. After logging in I typed 'startx' and it gave me alot of errors:
Quote:
Fatal server error: AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0 (WW) fglrx: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI : 0@0 : 20 : 4) found (EE) fglrx: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI : 0@0 : 20 : 4) found (EE) fglrx(0): incompatible kernel module detected - HW accelerated OpenGL will not work

So I really regret downloading these drivers, is there any way to roll back to the old Ubuntu supported video drivers?
I've recently installed a Radeon HD 5770 graphics card, but it currently doesn't have support from any open source drivers (including MESA's experimental DRI drivers). The only other option would be ATI's Catalyst drivers, but 9.12 doesn't support Xorg 7.5 at the moment (the drivers disable Xorg; leaving a terminal only setup).
The question I've got is that is it possible to downgrade Xorg to 7.4 as a temp workaround and if so, how easy would it be to revert back to 7.5 afterwards.
I am having trouble installing the 10.04 RC On my desktop the installer just crashes with a fatal error, before you get to the first screen of the installation process, where you choose to run as live cd or install. On my Laptop i am trying to Install alongside my current 9.10 installation and i keep getting the errors illustrated in the screenies. It is all probably down to my stupidity, but if it is not then this is very worrying 1less than a week before release.
I have VIA/S3G unichrome IGP video card of 32MB after installing fedora i am getting very worst resolution of 600x400which is completely irritating so please provide me a way out from this problem to use fedorathe solutions i followed and failed are given below
1. Some one told me to change the xorg.conf file but i failed because there is no such file in the given location
2. Some one told me to create it using system-config-display but for fedora 14 there is no package for that
3. some one told me again of using the command Xorg -configure but it said as followed [root@localhost tmp]# Xorg -configure
Fatal server error: Server is already active for display 0 If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock and start again.
I'm new to linux. I'm using fedora 13, 64 bit, AMD athlon II processor. I tried to install ATI Catalyst Display Driver for linux but its giving following message
ATI Technologies Linux Driver Installer/Packager which: no XFree86 in (/usr/kerberos/sbin:/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/root/bin) Error: ./default_policy.sh does not support version default:v286_64:lib::none:2.6.33.5-124.fc13.x86_64:; make sure that the version is being correctly set by --iscurrentdistro Removing temporary directory: fglrx-install.tcXvmo
when RPMfusion will have the ATI catalyst driver for Fdedora 14 in its repo? If it is going to take a log time then I might just install it from ATI's site, but I'd rather not go through all the trouble if I don't have to.
I just wanted to let everyone know that the latest 11.6 Catalyst driver has been released.I would like everyone to know that I have successfully installed the ATI drivers in gnome, but lost the usability of gnome-shell and automatically dropped back to the basic Gnome desktop. But I still have a usable system.
I must say, the RPMfusion version of the Nvdia driver package work better with FC10 than they did under FC9 for me, which is to say: they work at all. Still get corrupted output after a few hours of work, but I imagine that's just the underlying weakness of the Nvidia driver bubbling up. Either way, now I have other problems:
First off, the Intel driver for my onboard video setup has stopped working entirely. The attempt to bring up X on the Intel setup gets me to the KDE login screen and locks the machine up hard (poweroff required). A look at the xorg.0.log shows that the server seems to be stuck in a loop trying to determine the valid video properties for the session.
Here's my xorg.conf, BTW. I have it setup to perform different configurations depending on which DefaultServerLayout line gets uncommented (lines 4 - 6). If anybody has a better way of doing this, I'm all ears. While we're on my xorg.conf, pleas view lines 64-67 and/or 75-77. This is my quickie way of changing drivers (again, all ears) which brings us to the next problem, neither the nv or nouveau drivers work with my system. Interestingly enough, both drivers tend to fail in the same relative spot in the process, I think. Please refer to line 207 of this xorg.0.log with the nv driver or line 140 of this xorg.0.log from the nouveau setup. Either way, both sessions die with the same message: (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration. Fatal server error: no screens found Gotta go, x session getting corrupt,,,
I downloaded the new Catalyst Package from ATI [URL] and I don't know what happened. Installed fine restarted. It starts loading fine then screen flickers like crazy Gnome Desktop won't load. Kicks me over to console type log in. Starting vmtoolsd FATAL : Module vmmemctl not found. gdm[1586]: WARNING: GdmDisplay : display lasted 2.12 seconds Gdm[1586]: WARNING: GdmLocalDisplayFactory: maxium number of X display failures reached: check x server log for errors. I type StartX and is states (ee) fglrx(0): iregl_setsuspendresumestate FAILED -9. Is it going to happen with every computer running 11.3?
After I updated several software including Xorg server using "slackpkg update", I Ignorantly deleted configuration files without backing them up making Xorg server crashes.I try to build Xorg.conf using xorgsetup command but it crashes and spews:
Code: Fatal server error: Caught signal 11. Server aborting /usr/bin/xorgsetup: line 170: 3315 Aborted /usr/X11R6/bin/X -configure
I have a Radeon 4850 Graphic Card with ATI Catalyst as its driver, so I try to reinstall the driver hoping that it will fix the problem, which is a bad logic I admit it, and It fails to uninstall (for some reason the uninstall script is gone) and reinstall (problem with file extraction).
UPDATE 8/28/2009: I now recommend that people install the new packages instead of the manual instructions below, see this link:http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=155503 (Howto for fglrx/catalyst (Ati driver) and Compiz-fusion)NOTE: After installing the packages, I had to do the things at the following link to make the above packages work:http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showpo...postcount=3564If you still want to install the driver manually (you do not need to if you install the packages above), the instructions are below:
I am running a fresh installation of Fedora 13 on a 64 bit machine. I have an ATI Radeon HD5750 video card, and I want to install drivers for it. I have tried following Leigh's guide, but I have run into a problem. I cannot install kmod-catalyst because of the following error:
Code: [root@localhost ~]# yum install kmod-catalyst Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit Setting up Install Process Resolving Dependencies --> Running transaction check
I've tried ubuntu distribution but I'm not so satisfied of it, a bit because of unity (gnome3 is a way worste of that but is much more smooth and fast) and because on my laptop i always go overheating. with ubuntu coretemp in idle are always on 60?C and go to 75?C watching a video...it was crazy! So I've tried fedora, and I'm so happy with it, also if it is a bit more complex to use! but with some tutorial and easylife i got it working.
I have a dell studio 1537 with intel core 2 duo and ATi Mobility Radeon HD 3450 I've installed catalyst driver and now I have weired color on the top bar...I know is a common prolblem there is a way to solve it? If I have to reinstall Mesa driver how can I remove the Catalyst ones? There is a tweak to have icon on desktop? or at least the trash? Cheese always crash when I use some effect, why? it is a problem of the already installed mesa driver? because I have this problem either with the standard driver installed on the system either with the catalyst and the webcam is laggy like a slow connection...
I've just recently upgraded to lenny using aptitude (following the instructions on debian.org. All went smoothly, and almost everything is working fine.I have had my X server crash twice since then, both times when I simply doubleclicked a running application. There is some indication of problems in the Xorg.log file, but it's not helpful to me -- can you help me understand?
Is it possible for plymouth to work with the ATI Catalyst driver installed in Fedora 15 x86_64?
Is it that plymouth requires KMS and Catalyst doesn't provide it? With the nvidia driver, I could put a vga= line in grub and plymouth would run. Is there something similar for catalyst?
I am using F13 and new to Linux, whenever I am browsing internet that contains java script, the browser crashes, showing error signal as: Package: firefox-3.6.3-4.fc13 Latest Crash: Wed 04 Aug 2010 12:00:09 PM Command: /usr/lib/firefox-3.6/firefox Reason: Process /usr/lib/firefox-3.6/firefox was killed by signal 11 (SIGSEGV) Comment: None Bug Reports: I also used google-chrome browser, same problem is arising there too.
I have a laptop with ATI mobility 2400, and ralink wireless, I have not very experience with linux, I have tried many live-cds, ubuntu, opensuse, gentoo, fedora and all crash if I don't boot with the aditional option "clocksource=jiffies", i'm thinking of trying fedora 11 x64 but my main concern is about my ATI mobility VGA, in windows i need to install modded driver as original catalyst are not compatible with my system.
I have got xorg and gnome-core installed. When I put in command startx I get the following message: X: warning; process set to priority -1 instead of requested priority 0 Fatal server error:Server is already active for display 0 If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock and start again. when I try to sudo Xorg -configure it shows me same message server is ..... lspci shows me the following information 04:02.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage XL (rev 27)So what I am doing wrong and how do I get this videocard working with Xorg.
When I am trying to run the Xserver using the command startx I am getting the below mentioned error
xauth: creating new authority file /oracle/oracle10g/.serverauth.22555 Fatal server error:PAM authentication failed, cannot start X server. Perhaps you do not have console ownership?
I am having a strange problem with the Opensuse 11.2 Xorg server. Graphics hardware is Nvidia Quadro FX-5000, driver is ver 190.53. 90% of the time, I am getting a seg violation from the Xserver on trying to login via kdm:
[Code]...
...is the error that is present in the "kdm.log" file. So far, it doesn't seem to be user dependent (happens either as root or joe random user,) Again, so far, it only seems to happen with "driver nvidia" enabled in the config file, not with "driver nv" The failure occurs shortly after hitting return on the login screen. After it fails, it starts up a new Xserver, and presents a new login screen. Repeated attempts seem to *eventually* succeed, but 90% of the time, it fails I strongly suspect the Nvidia driver, but I have not been able to find anything documenting any similar problems.
Ubuntu 10.10 x64. Got a second monitor and enabled Xinerama. It asked me to restart, I did. I opened ATI Catalyst Control Center after the restart and saw the control panel window open for about half a second before suddenly finding myself at the login screen.
ATI Catalyst Control Center has always seemed to work fine up until I enabled Xinerama. I tried removing the ATI driver, restarting, re-enabling it, restarting, and ATI Catalyst Control Center worked fine again. But, as soon as I enabled Xinerama it went back to logging me out whenever I tried to open the control center. I've tried from the GUI menu as well as the terminal using 'gksudo amdcccle', same result every time.
The dual monitor functionality seems fine, but I need to get back into the control center to adjust the colors. I do a lot of photo editing, and the adjustments in the control center really is a great tool to let me get the colors how I'd like.
Intel just pushed out a new driver that speeds up performance on certain chipsets. Has anyone here tried it yet? I've tried compiling but run into a weird error :
Quote: checking for XORG... no configure: error: Package requirements (xorg-server >= 1.6 xproto fontsproto randrproto renderproto xextproto x11 xextproto) were not met: No package 'x11' found
On a Karmic desktop with a Radeon 2600 hd video card, my screen goes black for a couple of seconds when opening an avi (divx or mjpeg). The video starts playing immediatly but I only see a black screen. Using Movie Player, its a black screen window, using vlc or gmplayer or mplayer ,the all screen goes black. It does not happen if I use the ati open source driver (but then flash full screen crashes...). I just installed the latest ati catalyst (10.2) and the problem remains.....
