Fedora :: HP 1400 Printer Detected / Send Document But No Printout
Oct 11, 2009
I try to print with an HP 14000 PSC on Fedora 11. The printer is detected, send a document, it goes on the queue but does not get printed. The status is stopped. The printer status stay on idle with /usb/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip failed. I try to restart the printer, unplugged reboot; nothing. I used the same printer on F10 was working fine.

Ok, using gnome3 in F15. I'm going in to add my printer. I hit "network" and it searches for about 20-30 seconds and then stops. It's not picking it up.

I have Canon MX860 Multifunction USB/Wireless printer that I am trying to add in Fedora 13. Looking under Desktop > Computer via USB connection, the printer is detected as some hardware device I can mount and unmount. However, when I am trying to add this printer via System > Administration > Printing, the printer is not detected at all nor can I add. FYI, this printer works fine in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. How I can make this printer working in Fedora 13?

I just installed 10.04 on my neighbors computer. They have an HP LaserJet 5MP. Sometimes it detects the printer other times (most of the time) it doesn't recognized the printer. I've triple check the cables and powered down restated the computer about 10 time with the printer on and it's not showing up.

I need to write a command line script.
I have scribus install on my machine which someone suggested would do what I want. It does. But unfortunately I can not get it to work. The text print screen freezes when it is loading a font and will not respond.
One of the other disadvantages with scribus I did find was it wanted to print the fonts in all the size available and at 3 per page I have enough fonts to fill 607 pages.
I have googled, read all the scripting books I have, read several online tutorials and have not found a way to send a request for a certain style font to the printer from the command line.

I have a Epson Stylus SX115 All In One Printer which i connected to ubuntu 9.10 the other day. Upon installation the drivers for the stylus SX 115 were not available, but there were drivers for the stylus SX110 which i then installed. Printing is fine although for some reason even though i connect via usb cable the printer is not detected as a external device. I have to pull out the usb cable without unmounting-what should i do?

If there has been one consistent, recurring problem over the years it has been printing. I went to print a document, but it never made it to the printer. I looked at the HP device manager and the file was in the queue, but with the notation that the printer had been "stopped." I checked the setup up with localhost:631 and everything appears to be correct. User name is in the lp group. I then removed the current CUPS package and installed the one from Slackware64-13.
Doing that solved an earlier problem with one of the newer version of CUPS. This time the document made it to the printer, but each line overlapped itself and the whole thing fit into the space of about 6 lines. Just for chuckles I saved a copy of the document to the windows partition, booted over to XP, fired up OpenOffice for windows and the same document printed out perfectly.

Are there repos for this stuff and is there a tutorial like the one for graphic card theory I could peruse?

I'm running OpenSuse 11.4 and trying to connect a brand-new Xerox Phaser 6010 printer through USB.
I started by trying Yast>Hardware>Printer>Add, but no printer was detected. I tried "Detect More", but still no printer was detected.
The USB cable is connected, the printer is turned on, and /dev/usb/lp0 exists. There is only one printer on my system, so this must by my printer device; indeed, it disappears when I turn off the printer. Also, the printer works nicely under Windows, so there is no hardware problem with the printer itself.
I tried removing and reinserting the usblp module (using `rmmod usblp; insmod usblp`), but still no printer. Cups does not seem to find it.
I also tried explicitly specifying a URI for the printer using ConnectionWizard>SpecifyArbitraryDeviceURI usb:/dev/usb/lp1, selected the Xerox Phaser 6010 driver (which is present in the list) and tried to print a test page, but nothing happens.
What other options are there to figure out what is wrong and get this printer to work under OpenSuse?

I have just installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on my AMD 64 bit desktop. I have a usb connection for my Brother MFC 8860DN printer. I used the synaptic package manager to install the printer drivers ubuntu already had in their repository for my printer model. When I connect my printer to the computer Ubuntu recognizes the model, but cannot detect the printer drivers I have already installed. The printer drivers were installed to /usr where a Brother folder was created. the Cupswrapper and lpd files are in the Brother folder. How can I get the system to detect its own files so I can get the printer to work?

I have a Brother MFC-295CN network printer. Been having a heck of a time trying to get this thing working since I installed Ubuntu 11.04 yesterday. I've been away from Linux for some time and am new at using it. Downloaded and installed using the Software Center:
mfc295cnlpr-1.1.2.i386-1.deb
mfc295cncupswrapper-1.1.2-2.i386.deb
brscan3-0.2.11-4.i386.deb
brscan-skey-0.2.1-3.i386.deb
Was able to send a test print and it came out fine. But when I tried to send a print job - nothing. And, the scanner won't work either.
My computer is a Gateway GT5464. It's dual booted with Windows 7.

I was using happily Brother DCP7030 printer with CUPS on Ubuntu 10.04 for several months with no issues at all however recently I've started having problems with printing anything which is even a bit complex ( like 2 pages pdf, jpg file, etc..., simple gedit files are fine) - after printing properly up to one page the printer is producing one page like the one from attachment (with bunch of vertical lines starting in random places) and then "printing" unlimited number of blank pages until I will force it to stop. Any ideas ?
Ps. The printer itself seems to be fine - printing perfectly when connected to windows or other ubuntu machine configured exactly the same way like the one affected. Removing CUPS and installing it from scratch didn't help.

I have just installed OpenSUSE 11.4. Everything works perfectly on my HP Probook 4520s. Except my canon printer LBP3100. I downloaded the files from Canon for the CAPT and CUPS drivers ver 1.90. Installed and did exactly as they said in their manual. When I plug in and add printer with YaST, Open SUSE sees the printer and installs it. However when I try to print, nothing comes out!!

I need to printout auth.log each line by log event, I think it should be running using the following command:
~# tail -f /var/log/auth.log | lpr
but it's not, why?
the lpr package already is installed in myserver, there is no problem to print directly.
~# cat /var/log/auth.log | lpr

I'm writing a script that will send an alert email given certain conditions. I have the impression that sendmail is what I need to do that. I just don't know how to use sendmail at all. I assume I have to set it up like a typical mail client so that it has a mail server to log into to send from.
I've looked through the man pages, but I can't find anything in plain English there on how to set it up, or how to use it once it is set up.

I have a problem with a bad entry in my system-config-printer on my notebook computer which I think is interfering with my ability to print. I run fedora 10 on several systems in my house. On one desktop, I have a printer hosted which I think I have successfully setup for wireless network sharing (an HP895) using IPP.My problem seems to be a bad entry in my system-config-printer on my notebook computer which seems to stall when I try to print from applications (Firefox for example.) on the notebook. If I open up "Printing", I have 3 printers listed... one of them is for when the printer is attached directly to the notebook, one of them is the working printer description "printer" and the 3d is the bad entry. If I click on the bad entry to try to delete it, I don't have that option, but If I try to look at the "properties" for that entry, system-config-printer stalls (as do other applications when the printing dialog box starts up, and I have to force them to shut down.)
I will attach some screenshots and a copy of my /etc/cups/printers.conf file. How do I get rid of this "bad entry" in the system-config-printers GUI ? It doesn't seem to exist in the printers.conf file.

When i go to the site of HP and search for a driver, it directs me to this site:I've downloaded that latest hplip file as a .run file and installed it. My printer is recognized proparly, but when i try to print a colored image, it comes out black/white. Something is not crrect. Does anyone recognize this problem with this type HP printer?
