Programming :: Send All Fonts On Computer To Printer?
May 27, 2010
I need to write a command line script.
I have scribus install on my machine which someone suggested would do what I want. It does. But unfortunately I can not get it to work. The text print screen freezes when it is loading a font and will not respond.
One of the other disadvantages with scribus I did find was it wanted to print the fonts in all the size available and at 3 per page I have enough fonts to fill 607 pages.
I have googled, read all the scripting books I have, read several online tutorials and have not found a way to send a request for a certain style font to the printer from the command line.

The fonts on my computer are always fuzzy,is there any way to make them look sharp and pronounced, without going into massive hacking and altering? I know that is problem with GNOME on many other distros, but is there any simple solution to overcome this?

I try to print with an HP 14000 PSC on Fedora 11. The printer is detected, send a document, it goes on the queue but does not get printed. The status is stopped. The printer status stay on idle with /usb/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip failed. I try to restart the printer, unplugged reboot; nothing. I used the same printer on F10 was working fine.

I have a Brother MFC-295CN network printer. Been having a heck of a time trying to get this thing working since I installed Ubuntu 11.04 yesterday. I've been away from Linux for some time and am new at using it. Downloaded and installed using the Software Center:
mfc295cnlpr-1.1.2.i386-1.deb
mfc295cncupswrapper-1.1.2-2.i386.deb
brscan3-0.2.11-4.i386.deb
brscan-skey-0.2.1-3.i386.deb
Was able to send a test print and it came out fine. But when I tried to send a print job - nothing. And, the scanner won't work either.
My computer is a Gateway GT5464. It's dual booted with Windows 7.

I just installed a Brothers HL2170W printer on my desktop which is running Ubuntu 1004 I had no problem with the install and it is working. The problem is when I send a page to print it takes 5 minutes before it prints. Does anyone know if this is normal or if there is a fix. I have the printer connected with a USB cable.

I've got a Debian Squeeze computer on which the graphics have packed up, but the terminal in single user mode work perfectly fine.
There are a few files on this Debian computer that I want to transfer off, to a networked computer, but I have no idea how to do this.
The destination computer is a freshly re-setup Mandriva install, without (as yet) samba. I don't think it's necessary though. The Mandriva install works fine, has graphics, etc, but can't see the Debian Squeeze computer on the network, possibly because it's in single user mode, thus prompting the problem of how to transfer the files, using only a command line.

I am currently doing a research on video transmission over wireless LAN. I tend to transmit my offline file (xx.svc) from server to client. It may sound stupid (since I have a very little knowledge about c programming and raw socket), but my biggest challenges is that when I want to write the file to the buffer, how actually to define/include the file at the programming coding? where I need to locate the file? Is it at the same folder with my c programming, or somewhere in the linuxinclude folder?
Can anyone just give a simple example on how to include a file and write it into a buffer before send it through raw socket.

I have a Dell Inspirion 5150. The onboard sound card was blown 3 years ago. OS is Ubuntu 8.10. I am also a HAM radio operator and use the computer for digital modes using a USB device that acts as an external sound card modem for me.
The program that I use for that is fldigi. The device is Signalink USB by Tigertronics. the device has the ability to have speakers plugged in to it. Question: Is there a way to have the computer send the audio out the USB cable to the device?
I have looked at my sound settings and there are USB devices but none of them are the one(s) that I use with my Signalink device. If it can't be done, no worries -- have not really needed it so far. Just something nice to have.

As you know some(?) new computers have no built-in parallel port. The one I built didn't have one anyway so I bought a PCI-express card with a port, a cheap one with a printer port, nothing more.OpenSUSE 11.1 sees the card somehow and "lspci" says it's aCode:Parallel controller: Oxford Semiconductor Ltd Device c110"hwinfo --printer" does not see it at all, whatever that may mean?I have connected my old inkjet to it and configured the queue same way it used to be on the old computer but nothing ever comes out on the printer. Maybe the fact that I'm running openSUSE 64-bit has something to do with it, wrong drivers or some such?

I have a folder with over 1500 fonts, I would like to move them to my /usr/share/fonts folder so that they can be used. Some are from Windows, some are just random extras. I've installed the msttcorefonts, but there are quite a few missing that make some wen pages look different.
How can I go about putting the fonts from my folder, into the appropriate /usr/share/fonts folder to be used? And how can I move them all? I can't drag and drop them, and mv FONT_NAME /usr/share/fonts for all of them will take a month or two. Is there a way to elevate my self to be able to just drag and drop them all? And which folder would they need to go into for them to be used in Chrome and Firefox?

I have just installed openSUSE 11.2 X86_64 on my laptop, I then used KDE to install lots of type 1 fonts for my printer. These get loaded to /usr/local/share/fonts/...These installed fonts are visible to KDE (KWRITE) and GIMP so I assume that the installation was O.K. When I start openOFFICE writer I do not see these fonts. The font selection appears to be the fonts located under /usr/share/fonts. I have not tried other ooo3 components. I assume that they are not going to see the fonts either.
I have searched google and it appears that /usr/local/share/fonts is the correct location for non-packaged fonts. Has anybody any idea what is wrong? I think I could move all the fonts to /usr/share/fonts and ooo3 would work but this seems to break the installation directory structure. I have considered symlinks but I don't like the idea of defining a font twice to Linux and creating the syslinks is more work than reinstalling the fonts if they are lost

When i go to the site of HP and search for a driver, it directs me to this site:I've downloaded that latest hplip file as a .run file and installed it. My printer is recognized proparly, but when i try to print a colored image, it comes out black/white. Something is not crrect. Does anyone recognize this problem with this type HP printer?

Has anyone had an issue with gdb not being able to send a UDP msg across a socket?
I have ComponentA sending a msg to ComponentB utilizing gdb. ComponentB gets the msg. ComponentB sends a msg to ComponentC. ComponentC does stuff to the msg and sends a msg back to ComponentB using gdb.
ComponentB never seems to receive the 2nd message.
If I don't use gdb the messages Tx and Rx without an issue.
I'm flying blind without gdb to figure out a different bug.
