I have just installed OpenSUSE 11.4. Everything works perfectly on my HP Probook 4520s. Except my canon printer LBP3100. I downloaded the files from Canon for the CAPT and CUPS drivers ver 1.90. Installed and did exactly as they said in their manual. When I plug in and add printer with YaST, Open SUSE sees the printer and installs it. However when I try to print, nothing comes out!!
View 9 RepliesI've installed Debian using the boot.img.gz file onto the jump drive, as well as Linux mint and crunchbang with unetbootin all to no avail; pressing F9 at bios startup refuses to show the jump drive. Booting from the drive is enabled (as far as I can see) in the BIOS.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was using happily Brother DCP7030 printer with CUPS on Ubuntu 10.04 for several months with no issues at all however recently I've started having problems with printing anything which is even a bit complex ( like 2 pages pdf, jpg file, etc..., simple gedit files are fine) - after printing properly up to one page the printer is producing one page like the one from attachment (with bunch of vertical lines starting in random places) and then "printing" unlimited number of blank pages until I will force it to stop. Any ideas ?
Ps. The printer itself seems to be fine - printing perfectly when connected to windows or other ubuntu machine configured exactly the same way like the one affected. Removing CUPS and installing it from scratch didn't help.
I need to printout auth.log each line by log event, I think it should be running using the following command:

but it's not, why?
the lpr package already is installed in myserver, there is no problem to print directly.

View 3 Replies View Related i am having trouble installing my multifunctional Canon MP190 under openSUSE 11.2 x64. I have downloaded the 32-bit drivers (there are no 64-bit drivers available) from Canon 's site (PIXMA MP190) in .rpm format but that 's about it This is what i have done so far:
1) I untarred the file i downloaded ("MP190_RPM_drivers.tar")
2) Inside there are 2 more tar files
- MP190_RPM_printer.tar
- MP190_RPM_scangear.tar
3) Trying at first to install the printer functionality, i untarred the "MP190_RPM_printer.tar" file and i got 3 more files
- cnijfilter-common-3.00-1.i386.rpm
- cnijfilter-mp190series-3.00-1.i386.rpm
- cnijfilter-common-3.00-1.tar.gz
4) I tried clicking the file "cnijfilter-common-3.00-1.i386.rpm" but it gives me an error saying:

Im attempting to install a Canon MX330 as my default printer. I have made reference to several posts that deal with Canon printers and have followed them without success.
I first searched [URL] for the appropriate drivers and came up with -cnijfilter-common-3.10-1.i386.rpm and cnijfilter-mx330series-3.10-1.i386.rpm.I then issued rpm -ivh for both, but got the error message libpopt.so.0 is needed by cnijfilter.I then issued ls -l /usr/lib/libpng* and saw that libpng.so.3 wasn't found. I next issued zypper in libpng3 and then -- ln -l usr/lib64/cups /usr/lib/cups and ln -l usr/lib/cups/filter/pstocanoni /usr/lib64/cups/filter Then I issued /etc/init.d/cups restart. Finally, I entered ln -s /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstocanonij /usr/lib64/cups/filter. ls -l /usr/lib/libpng* shows ---
and smoltGui shows that the driver for the printer is still unknown.If I try to use Cups to install the printer, I can't get past the screen that asks for the driver, since my driver is not listed and I don't know how to enter both drivers as new PDDs.
I have just installed SUSE 11.2, but although my ip3000 shows in the hardware, I cannot get a correct print out on A4 paper and I am informed that no driver is available. There must be a work-around for this?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI got hold of an HP Jetditect 175x and thought I'd try to use it to get network printing other than via a dedicated server box. Managed to get into it and reconfigured it to have an address on the network. Downloaded and RPM'd the canon drivers and have tried to get the printer configured via YaST using both the TCP/Jetdirect route and the LPD route but no joy. Port 9100 is configured on the JD and it comes up in YaST as well. LPD is also opened on the JD - as is Appletalk but that's for the kids . The JD reports that it has a "MP210 Series" printer attached. Is this just a case of the JD wont allow a non-HP printer to run?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded (fresh installed) from OpenSUSE 10.3 to OpenSUSE 11.3. One thing I noticed missing was support for my Canon MP600 printer. Searching around, I found a solution on a Finnish OpenSUSE support page (which I translated with Google):

Here's the fix:
1. Download file Linux_Print_Filterv270.tgz from Canon Print Filter for Linux (rpm)
2. Unpack with: tar xvzf Linux_Print_Filterv270.tgz (this also has support for other printers, including MP610, MP510, IP3300, and IP4300).
3. Install cnijfilter-common-2.70-2.src.rpm
4. Install cnijfilter-mp600-2.70-2.i386.rpm
This errors out with missing dependencies:
# rpm -Uvh cnijfilter-mp600-2.70-2.i386.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
libgdk-1.2.so.0 is needed by cnijfilter-mp600-2.70-2.i386
libglib-1.2.so.0 is needed by cnijfilter-mp600-2.70-2.i386

and it installs perfectly.
6. If you're using 64-bit openSUSE Linux (as I am), you need to copy the print filters:
mkdir -p /usr/lib64/cups/filter && cp -p /usr/lib/cups/filter/* /usr/lib64/cups/filter
7. Install the printer as usual.
I selected the MP610 CUPS+Gutenprintv5.2.4 simplified driver for my MP600 and printed a test page. The MP610 drivers work for MP600. There are about 4 of them, and I didn't try the others, but my guess is they will work also.
I just downloaded and installed openSUSE 11.2. It looks good. Very fast and extremely stable.
My problem is that I use a 'Canon MP280' Printer / Scanner / Copier.
It seems that my printer and openSUSE are not compatible.
OpenSUSE can't find Canon MP280.
When I try to instal the rpm I downloaded from canons support website after authentication the install process fails with the following error report: [PK_TMP_DIR|dir:///var/tmp/TmpDir.kLgXId] Repository already exists.
I believe the packages I download (cnijfilter-common-3.40-1.i386.rpm and cnijfilter-mp250series-3.40-1.i386.rpm) are fine--not corrupted.
I'm trying to get my Canon Pixma MP510 scanner to work under openSUSE 11.3. Canon Linux Support doesn't seem to have anything for 11.3, but sane claims to provide basic functionality. The printer is working fine, but I don't manage to configure the scanner.
I tried to configure via YaST, but the following happens: The scanner is found, but (correctly) labbelled as "not configured". Clicking "Edit", the PIXMA MP510 is listed and a driver suggested: "Canon PIXMA MP510: (Package sane-backends) Driver pixma should provide basic functionality (USB-ID 0x04a9:0x1717)" If I select this option an click on "Next", the window crashes and I get the following error in the KDialog window, but I have no clue what it means: "YaST got signal 11 at YCP file Wizard.ycp:849 /sbin/yast2: line 399: 5663 Segmentation fault $ybindir/y2base $module "$@" "$SELECTED_GUI" $Y2_GEOMETRY $Y2UI_ARGS"
Is this a YaST problem? Or driver related? I thought about configuring the scanner without YaST, but don't know how to do it. I tried to google a HowTo, but couldn't find anything useful.
The command "sane-find-scanner" successfully detects the scanner, "found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x1717 [MP510]) at libusb:001:004", but the command "scanimage -L" yields "No scanners were identified."
how to make YaST configure my scanner? Or how to configure it without YaST?
I'm trying to get photos off my Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS but while Device Notifier pops up telling me I've attached a canon, and I can see it when I run lsusb, It's not actually being mounted anywhere, or creating a device for itself to be mounted with..I plug the camera in to the computer while it's still off, and I turn it off again before disconnecting (As I've heard this is the proper way to do this.) but I am still not getting a device. Okay there is no x86_64 driver for the capt drivers, that I could find. But you can download the standard linux drivers, which also contain the source.
The easiest way to get a 64bit driver is to unpack the drivers.
You will find a directory Src. In there are two source packages.
Copy both to /usr/src/packages/SOURCE
unpack both in a temporary directory.
I can't say which other packages you need to compile and build all of this, but you will need the c++ compilers, and various -devel packages. I would just add them via yast as you go along.
Anyway off to work out how to get this working directly on linux reliably.
I recently installed openSUSE 11.2 on a computer with a Canon i860 printer attached to it. Previously this computer had Ubuntu 9.10 installed on it. When Ubuntu was installed on it, the computer found and printed on the Canon i860 printer just fine. When I installed openSUSE, the list of Canon drivers did *not* include the Canon i860. Just for giggles I selected Canon BJC 4000.
It prints, but it "misbehaves" - For example, if I want to print a document that says only "Hello world", it will print it, but it prints it about 20 times on one sheet. I figure this insanity is caused by the improper driver I selected. I'm not expert enough to know how to get this printer working. And - why would it work okay in Ubuntu 9.10, but not openSUSE 11.2? Did I do something wrong while installing openSUSE?
I just acquired this printer. I would like to get it to work with my laptop.I'm running OS11.2 I've looked in yast but it isn't listed. Looked in Canons website and didn't find a driver for linux.

I have a Canon S95 digital camera that used to work just fine. I plugged it in, the device notifier showed a couple of actions for it, I chose digiKam and downloaded the photos. Now I tried to get new photos out of the device, but it's not showing in the device notifier any more. DigiKam shows "Canon Inc. Canon Digital Camera (auto-detected)" but doesn't do anything when selecting it.
In dmesg I see:

So it works but KDE doesn't seem to be able to notice it. I'm using openSuse 11.3 with KDE 4.6 RC1, and it might be that 4.6 betas/rc broke the functionality though I'm not sure.
Have updated my system to 11.4 (Fresh install) and installed the driver from canon, and when you print the test page, it prints fine. But it now when I want to print a pdf or web page where it will say printer data error on the printer. Another thing is that it seems to print fine when the document is plain text like if I print a document from libre, it will print or when i send a print test page. Also when the document does not go through, the cnpkmoduleufr2 sits in memory and then chows 50% of cpu. In 11.3 worked beautifully so am thinking that this is a software issue.

On Ubuntu using the Pixma MP500 driver works just fine, but there is no option for that on suse. Only for HP and Generic. The only solution I have found was turbo print, and that costs $30. I am hoping to find a solution, I really like SUSE, but I may have to go back to Ubuntu.

I'm trying to get my Canon Pixma MG 5150 scanner/printer to work. While the 'printer' is doing well the 'scanner' appears to be stubborn. I use the scangearpm-MG5100series-1.60-1 driver provided by Canon which is said to be fine with Suse 11.2.
The trouble is, that though the scanner scans it does not deliver anything back. Here are the details:
