View 2 RepliesMy live cd worked flawlessly.
After I installed it, is another story I chose to include the suggested .mp3 codec, and to install updates at the same time.
Cmos and hardware all inits fine, then I get several seconds of a cursor, followed by the nice "ubuntu" title with little orange squares under it.
Interestingly, the squares do not cycle until I hold down the power button.
Searching for "10.10 boot" somehow returned zero results. ??
What used to work flawlessly in F14 now does not work in F15. I have done a fresh installation of F15 and all seemed to go well other than a few minor tweaks. In F14 I had an /etc/fstab file that worked well but in F15 does not work. I have 3 external USB drives, mybook, black & StoreIt. With F14 my fstab worked very well and booted regardless of weather or not any particular drive was connected at any given time. Typically I have the mybook and black connected at home and the StoreIt connected at work, but regardless it would boot and work without any problems.

I am an avid ubuntu fan, and have been using ubuntu since 8.something. However, I never figured out a way to run WOW from Ubuntu, so I switched to winblows 7. I had my hard drive partitioned with vista, and 7 on it. (it's a long story) I was waiting for my new Ubuntu 10.4 cd to come in the mail, but i grew impatient and installed it on my pc. When I did I was careful not to install it over my Windows 7 partition. Infact, it made a new partition and installed it. So then i had 7, Ubuntu, and vista on my laptop. I formatted the vista partition and now it's blank. My problem is, when i start my computer, Windows 7 is no long an option in my boot menu. WTF happened? and can i get it back? All the files are still there, the partition is still there, from what I understand the whole OS is still there, but it's not on the Boot menu. I'm kind of a noob to ubuntu, I'm familiar with terminal and such. but if something is a bit out of my grasp i'll let you know.if someone could walk me through how to install and play WOW on linux flawlessly, that would work too.
View 8 Replies View RelatedInstalled Ubuntu 10.10 on my new-to-me Powerbook 1.67Ghz. PowerPC, as a platform, is most definitely *not* dead. Installation went normal. I installed with network connected to Ethernet rather than Wireless. Installed Wireless firmware. Then I had wireless.
Backlighting didnt work until I added 'i2c-dev' to /etc/modules. Restart, and backlight works, although its a little too sensitive. Hardware acceleration wasn't enabled, so I had to add this to a file called Radeon-kms.conf in /etc/modprobe.d/
"radeon options modeset=0"
Reboot. Then I had hardware acceleration and Compiz.
Install/run sensors and sensors-detect. Run as root. Detected HD temp, CPU, GPU temps and fan speed. Make sure this is in /etc/modules: therm_adt746x. Thats the thermal control stuffs. I then installed openjdk and netbeans and eclipse. OpenJDK is slow, but I feel that is due to OpenJDK itself, and not PowerPC.
This gave me a working CPU ondemand throttling:
apt-get install cpufrequtils
Installing this gave me a working battery-applet that reported a percentage:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:iaz/battery-status && sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install battery-status
/usr/lib/battery-status/battery-status --indicator
I get really good battery life, and everything that shipped on this laptop actually works as designed. Forever PowerPC, Forever Ubuntu
I have a bcm4312 wireless network adapter that worked in F11 after following this guide: [URL]. Now, the wireless adapter won't work.

I'm running Ubuntu 9.0.4 with an Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection. I have been trying for a couple weeks now different techniques to get my wired ethernet connection working properly. I have a seeming common issue with my e100 driver dropping connection and having hard time picking it back up sometimes. I want to purchase a relatively inexpensive Ethernet card whose generic Linux driver actually operates it CORRECTLY, open up comp and put it in, and update to 9.10. Any list of Ethernet cards that are know to work flawlessly on Ubuntu, or at least tell me which card YOU are using that works perfect without having to write code, install wrapper programs, etc...?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI did an inplace upgrade on my Dell Latitude X1 from Fedora 14 to 15 using dist-sync as per instructions on the website. It was not entirely smooth but I believe all the packages are now present and correct. Initially, about half the packages were still on f14 and the machine barely booted. I booted single user (nothing else was possible) and persuaded yum to fetch & install the rest.I was using wicd on 14 to connect wirelessly and it "just worked". I used wicd because I found NetworkManager didn't work.
On upgrade to 15, wicd now fails, and NetworkManager still does.icd i get an authentication failure, though the pw is correct. The only clue in the logs I can see is that wicd complains of not finding python-iwscan, and doesn't seem happy in using dhclient. Of course p-iwscan isn't in Fedora. Is p-iwlib similar? For wlassistant onnect failed.NetworkManager is currently refusing to acknowledge the existence of wireless on the machine, though occasionally it has addmitted the possibility. Then however I can neither scan for an SSID nor enter one manually ** Using iwconfig and setting the key manually *appears* to connect to the AP, but dhclient won't get IP data for it (if I ask nicely, it appears to try but isn't transmitting anything)The wireless card is an Intel ipw2200 chipset built into the X1. The ethernet port is working ok now, using a Broadcom chip.
my net worked HP printer will not print-broken pipe - this started after I had to switch off the printer at the mains in order to attend to a paper jam. Now it will not print apart from a test page. I am using Fedora 10 and the device info is "hp:/net/Officejet_Pro_L7500?ip=192.168.0.4"
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been using Fedora 10 for a while, but after i upgraded to vista a long time ago, it changed the MBR so my dual boot no longer worked. Coincidentally I no longer needed linux at that time so I never bothered to fix it. Now I need it again and I was wondering how I could fix the MBR to get back my dual boot. When I insert the Fedora 14 LiveCD it just takes me to the OS...

I have been running FC8 on this IBM T23 with a D-Link wireless adapter. Using MadWifi this has worked fine with Network Manager disabled. But now I have nuked that installation and replaced it with FC10. Network Manager is nice, and I would like to use it. And it kind-of works. Network Manager recognizes my router and all my neighbor's routers, but I can't connect.

I'm installing Fedora 11 x86_64 from the DVD iso. The SHA256 checksum was fine, and the media checked out fine just prior to install. The F11 install seems to go perfectly and I get all the way through the installation. However, on reboot, I get this message, "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"!!!!I'm installing to an old Intel 975XBX2 motherboard with 4GB of memory, which I have used successfully, flawlessly for every single Fedora install since F6. I've only been using one hard drive with a FAT32 partition, and an NTFS partition for Windows XP, the remainder of the disk is Fedora.I've probably tried this F11 install about 8 or 9 times already with no success; actually, the installation seems to go perfectly, but I just cannot boot the PC. I think there's something wrong with GRUB being written into the MBR of the hard drive, because I cannot boot DOS on that FAT32 partition, I can't boot into the NTFS partition which contains XP, nor can I boot into F11.Anyone else having problems with the boot? I've been a long time Fedora user and was counting on the reliability of F11: Wondering if that Anaconda re-write had anything to do with all of these problems?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI ran 11.1 for about a year and had only a few issues; but for some (stupid?) reason, decided to go to 11.2.
Now my hibernate does not work (it worked almost flawlessly on 11.1. Both from shutdown options and when closing the lid.
It seems to disconnect the ethernet, but then just reconnects and resumes normal operation.
This is a IBM T42 laptop. It also does not hibernate when I close the lid, which also worked fine on 11.1.
I can't leave this thing running all the time and I don't want to do a full shutdown every time I stop using it.
I've installed all the updates and upgrades.
I am a new user of Slackware 13.37 (KDE) on my laptop. Unfortunately, suspend to ram is not working properly. It worked the very first time I tried it, but has failed since. The computer suspend properly (light turns orange) but when I click any button it restarts computer and recovers journals.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI used to run an application named DBabble (client) through Wine back when I used 11.1. Then, the version of Dbabble client was 2.2h -I still have the exe-. Now I tried this same version on 11.3 with Wine, and this is what I got:
ImageBam - Fast, Free Image Hosting and Photo Sharing
Latest version of the client is 2.9i, and this one seems to work fine, but the server I want to connect needs client 2.2h. I thought it was the Wine version, but a friend tried the exe in a system with 11.1 and latest Wine, and it worked for him.
So there's probably a change in 11.3 that broke this app under Wine. Is there a solution or workaround for this on 11.3?
I have a Compaq Evo N610c that was running 9.10. I was reluctant to upgrade to 10.04 since everything was working like a clock. But, alas, the "newer is better" bug bit me and I just HAD to try out 10.04. So, I installed it in a dual boot mode, keeping my 9.10 in tact. I'm glad I did! I use an Enterasys Roamabout CSIBD-AA-128 wireless lan card to connect to my network. I use WEP 128-bit encryption for the network. I connect without issue in 9.10.
In 10.04, I am unable to connect to the network. I am sure that the card is recognized, as the system "sees" my network and tries to connect. I am asked for "wireless network authentication required". I have tried both passphrase (WEP 40/128-bit key) and WEP 128-bit passphrase (network name 5rueckls). When I enter either, the computer looks like it is trying to connect, but never gets there. Settings under the "Editing Auto 5rueckls" include Mode: Infrastructure, MTU: Automatic, IPv4 Settings Method: Automatic, IPv6 Settings Method: Automatic, Wireless security: WEP 40/128 (key entered), WEP Index 1, Authentication: Open System. Available to all users is "ticked". I am very new to the whole Linux/Ubuntu environment, but have made alot of progress! I can follow direction very nicely.
first i make one partiton ten format it add mount point and fire luksopen command and create secert file and enter this in crypttab but when i rebbot it showes scert file not found and partion remain unlocked
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is my first ever question. I'm a new-bee when it comes to configuring lenny at admin level, however with the help from the forum I was able to get my SONY Vaio VGN cs 190 configured successfully. I've gnome-core installed and here is my concern. I've Windows running on the same machine. I've a realtek sound card with Dolby SoundRoom. It works beautifully in Windows, as I've Dolby Control Center application to control the amount of bass I need. I also have a logitech Z-2300 2.1 Speaker system. Even though, it's a 2.1, it produces amazing sound. If I disable Dolby using Dolby Control Center, I fail to listen wonderful sounds whether I'm playing music or movies in Windows.
I'm not quite pleased with my experience of movies or music with Lenny as there is no Dolby Control Center application to control it. I've tried several suggestions, but none was fruitful. I've even tried Wine, but I'm not happy with it. If I can get this Dolby Control Center to work, I can completely take off Windows from my Laptop, which is my ideal goal.

Where do I put the mount command so that the drive mounts at startup? Do I have to set permissions as well and if so can i do this so that the drive is r/w accessible to me as a non root user? My system is just a desktop machine running Openoffice and Internet access.
made a script with funtions, everything worked until 15 minutes ago, and i can't figure out what did go wrong.I think it has to do something with the 3 first rules of code... but for my opinion that should be fine (i used '777' just to be sure)

I have a code that does 3D rendering that worked on a system running RHEL4 32-bit with an NVIDIA GeForce 260 video card. I have a new system now running RHEL5 64-bit (The shared object libraries for the code are 32-bit) with an NVIDIA GeForce 295 video card that when I execute the code I receive the following error:

Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent)
Serial number of failed request: 26

Can anyone give me any ideas on what could be causing this error? This really isn't my area of expertise unfortunately. I'm not the author of the code. Could I be missing some libraries or something along those lines? Let me know if you need me to post up more information.
