I have a 7GB unallocated space and I want to expand/increase the size of the preinstalled fedora 13 ext4 size from the unallocated space any ideas?**Using gparted live is not working is just displating the whole sda drive.

Having become my primary OS, I am looking forward to expand the ext4 partition from 44GB to the maximum possible. I have some 24GB unpartitioned space, and free space on NTSF partitions (one of which could be deleted if necessary). What is the best and safest procedure to perform the partitioning.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am new to Fedora, and I noticed when I opened my home folder that I only had 54GB. My HD is 120, and when I used the disk utility, I noticed that 64GB are in ext4! What?! This was not a problem in Ubuntu, so why has it happened now? Is there anyway I can decrease the size of ext4 and give some of it to Fedora?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have done it quite often. Inserted and run the computer from a live CD so that the hard drive is not mounted an changed the partitions. It worked on the old reiserfs when I wiped the windows partition on my laptop to increase the space, it worked on ext3 partitions. Now I resized the swap partition and reduced the NTFS partition on my desktop - no problem. But it does not increase the ext4 partition. No error message it just does not do it. I tried several times with the suggested maximal setting, with a custom setting, etc. It just does not change size. Just for interest I booted into Suse11.0 live CD and tried from there. There I get the answer cannot resize partition as the file system does not allow resizing. Is something wrong with the system or does the partitioner not work with ext4?

Mis-allocated 10g instead of 30g to /var/lib/mysql and realized mistake After Fresh Install and upgraded all servers. Using Slackware13.1, Xfce did some googling wondering if its possible to resize the above partition with fdisk. Read some things about gparted and wonder if it will work using Xfce.. i've never use kde or gnome. There is also mention of using live cd; I have no experience with any of the mentioned tools; just fdisk to partition and install. What is the best or simplest way to backup & restore; (I do have an empty sdb 160g but don't want to get into complicated raid or LVM setups right now because I still have to learn howto backup & restore do data to the point where I feel comfortable with it)?

We are currently running Redhat 5.4 64Bit (Build 2.6.18-164.e15) however having issues with tar files that are greater than 2TB in size.
We have been told that upgrading the kernel to support the ext4 file system (supported in version 5.5?) and mounting the current 10TB nas share as an ext 4 file system may solve our over 2TB file size issues. Are their limitations within the ext3 file system that cause issues to files greater than 2TB and if this is the case Do we have to update the kernel (complete rebuild), or can we load a package on the redhat box to support the ext 4 file system Where do we get the upgrade/package. I have logged onto the redhat site and can not find kernel updates but can find the full installation packages. We are not connected directly to the internet and do not have access to the update repository
I have nearly 200GB of space free on the HD with my linux main EXT4 partition, and I'm wondering if I can convert a large part of this to a new NTFS partition that I can use for my windows XP paralell install?
Basically, what do I have to do to resize and create the new partition and how do I get windows to recognize it?
I am running CentOS 5.5 with a 14T ext4 volume. We are sharing out a few sub-directories via NFS. Our customer was doing some penetration testing with our web app that writes to one of those NFS shares. We are not sure if they did something to cause the metadata to grow so large or if it is corrupt. I have a 1TB drive and divided it for a dual boot setup; win XP SP3 on one half and ubuntu on the other. Upon rebooting one day, I received the 'error no such partiiton' and found myself at the grub rescue prompt. I tried to repair grub, reinstall grub, fsck to check the filesystem but the root partition was listed as unallocated space and could not be mounted. Nothing worked; I checked the HDD for errors, etc and everything was clean. Windows also saw the parition as free space then unallocated space. The swap partition was still present and unaffected. Does anyone have any ideas or have seen this before?

I'm on a work desktop and im just wondering what the chances are of data loss if i resize my paritions i have 2 NTFS 1 10GB and 1 64GB (Not sure why but thats how it is) I want to take 30GB from the 2nd partition and add onto the main 10GB. I've only got one hard drive so I can't simply unmount and repartition from gparted, I've lost all of my random linux live cds, and can't find a spare blank optical disc. Is there a way to boot from directly from the iso or from a flash drive or something?

When i enabled that, its giving some error at startup and left the partition unmounted. But manually i can mount after logged in. But i need it at the startup itself. How to solve this.i am installed dkms* dkms-fuse* fuse* and fuse-ntfs-3g* rpms to use the ntfs partitions.

I used Parted Magic to make room adjacent to / so I could expand it, but pmagic won't work with this because it says that / is lvm2 and not mounted. But Debian 6 says that it doesn't have any lvm's and that / is ext3.

I want to run some command such as ls on certain types of files in the directory and have the * (glob) expand to all possibilities for the filename.
echo 'file otherfile' | tr ' ' '
' | xargs -I % ls %*.txt
This command does not expand the glob and tries to look for the literal 'file*.txt'
How do I write a similar command that expands the globs? (I want to use xargs so the command can be run in parallel)
So I recently installed Ubuntu on a blank 250GB HD..
When I was doing the partitions I separated the / and /home and /bin etc
Ultimately I gave 30GB to my /home.
However I kind of need a bit more space now.
There is still a lot of empty space on my HD and I want to know is it possible to increase the size of my /home by about 20 GB?
Although I've been dabbling for a while I'm somewhat of a newbie so bear with me: Rather than rebuild my Hardy Server due to root being full, I followed suggestions to create another logical volume on the volume group and put root there. I must have missed some fundamental step. Although the partition appears to be functional, the defined space isn't visible and I am stumped:

Everything is working great. I'm using Windows Boot Loader (used easybcd to attach Ubuntu).
I want to expand /dev/sdb3 to have more space for Ubuntu. I am able to shrink the data partition /dev/sdb2, which leaves an unallocated space. I have backed up /dev/sdb3 using Paragon software.
My question is, what is the best way to expand the /sdb3 partition into the unallocated space and restore the ubuntu image backup so that it will use up all the space (unallocated and current /sdb3)? I don't want to screw up since everything is working properly, I just want some more space.
I am new to eclipse and am having a hard time to find the function to expand or unexpand a block defined by {}.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been using Ctrl +/- to expand/shrink the displayed font on web pages in Firefox since I figured out how to do it back in version 0.something. Today I happened to be accessing this page https://personal.vanguard.com/us/fun...T#hist=tab%3A2 and I noticed that when I expanded the font the text to the right side was pushed off screen - not unusual - but that I did NOT have a slider at the bottom of the browser window to allow me to move to the off screen text. I continued to press Ctrl+ until the font would no longer expand. At the very larges font the slider reappeared however, it will only move a little bit to the right.
I then accessed the page with Internet Explorer and Firefox 3.5.8 on an XP box - the slider appeared as expected and I can slide to the right to see all of the enlarged text.
I created a new user on my Ubuntu machine, signed on as that user and viewed the page. Again, no issues. Seems like something in my profile rather than the web page itself or Firefox as installed on my PC.I tried disabling the few addons which I use (Noscript, Addblock Plus, etc.) - no improvement.I now created a virtual machine (VMWare) and installed Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit. Tried the page in Firefox and it works fine. Then I copied my profile to the virtual machine - the page experiences the same problem. So obviously there is SOMETHING in my profile which is causing the issue.
And for my next trick I replaced the copy of prefs.js in my profile on the VM with prefs.js from the default profile. Other than forgetting everything I have ever configured in Firefox, this has fixed the problem. But not a pretty way to go.
Did anyone else notice in the 10.04 RC that it is very difficult to expand a window from the left or right side? The threshold is one pixel long before the arrow disappears.

Anyways, I'm thinking about expanding an NTFS (Windows 7) partition on my desktop computer into unallocated space. I know that there is a risk when shrinking a NTFS partition due to fragmentation but are there any risks of data loss from expanding a NTFS partition? My common sense tells me there isn't a risk but I want to be 100% sure I won't lose any files.
