Fedora Hardware :: ATI Radeon 7000 3D - How Is Gnome 3 Preview
Aug 10, 2010
I have using Fedora 12. my video card is ati radeon 7000 with 64mb video ram. i like to see how is Gnome 3 Preview. i install required packages. when i run "desktop-effects" command, a error message appear with following ccontext "Accelerated 3D graphics is not available Desktop effects require hardware 3D support."
I think this is about my video card drivers. so, what drivers i need to install and how i can install them?

I have dualhead configuration - ATI Radeon 7000 with 2 attached VGA monitors. But by booting is one of them switched off:- without kernel param. - nomodeset (added to GRUB), the monitor is switched off just before X start- with nomodeset - is switchet off by X start. In X: xrandr reports only 1 attached monitor (second port is reported as "disconnected") - the same info is in /var/log/Xorg.0.log.I have also try to use my elsewhere working predefined configuration in xorg.conf, but also without effect. The second monitor stays off :On every other OS I have ever tried: Ubuntu 8.04/8.10/9.04, Mandriva 2008/2009.1, Knoppix, SuSE 10.3/11.1, Windows XP, ....I had not this problem. Also - what is wrong in Fedora ? Why do switch the monitor off ? Why reports, that the monitor is disconnected - when it is not true ?

I have a machine with an ATI Radeon 7000/VE graphic card and I can not get the screen resolution I need. This is running on redhat enterprise 4 OS (32bit). My monitor is a 1600x1280 but I can not get anything better than 1024x768. I did set the desired resolution in the xorg file. I guess this would rather be a driver issue? I am running with radeon driver at the moment. I tried to get the fglrx from ATI but they do not seem to give any linux support for this card.

With Karmic there's some support for the ati radeon 7000 ve, but it's the default driver with limited or no 3d function. Previous distros supported radeon 7000 ve. Is it likely to expect that Lucid will not support this video card.

So here is my problem In short, I am having trouble enabling hardware rendering on my Radeon 7000. As a result, games run slow, and Compiz refuses to run. ATI Radeon 7000, uses the open-source driver that already comes installed (Mesa, I think it is called) Here are outputs of different commands I think you might find useful. Let me know if you want anything else.
Code:
$ lspci |grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV100 QY [Radeon 7000/VE]
Code:
$ glxinfo | grep render
direct rendering: Yes
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa X11

I am running Fedora 14 on my Thinkpad T410. Tried to see what Gnome 3 shell looks like. So I went to: System->Preferences->Desktop Effects and chose GNOME Shell. Now the bottom and the top pannels are gone. I can see only the desctop and the icons on it. How can I get back to the previous settings? I tried and tried without any luck.

Since I enjoyed Gnome shell with Ubuntu 9.10 (but Ubuntu runs too slow on this computer for my druthers), I thought it would be fun to check out gnome shell on 11.3. I thought that since my 11.3 has gnome 2.30, that the gnome shell in the software manager would be a concomitant version, so I installed it. I then followed the directions given in the second posting of Enabling Gnome Shell in 11.3?
When I logged back in, I selected Gnome 3 Preview [even though I hadn't thought that that was what I'd installed -- (has openSUSE retired all older versions of Gnome shell?)]. The desktop won't boot (I don't know what the correct way of saying it is). The splash shows, but the icons just intermittently flash off and on at random intervals, never quite making it all the way "on." When I right click the bottom of the screen, I can select "terminal" (when I can accurately coordinate my double-click with the random, intermittent flashing), but then the terminal also does the random, intermittent flashing as well. So I can never get anything typed in. When I reboot, there's no login box.

I replaced an ATI Radeon 9550 with a Radeon X1300/X1550, in hopes of better performance.
My System: P4@3GHz, 1.5Gb RAM, Fedora 12, kernel 2.6.32.10-90.fc12.
Faults: Screen refresh is extremely low. Glxgears outputs 25 FPS. Dragging windows around is sometimes really slow.
What I did so far, in hope of fixing it:
1. Installed 'system-config-display', for providing an xorg.conf
2. Did: yum --enablerepo=rawhide update mesa-dri-drivers-experimental mesa*, fixing this, but to no avail...
I cannot find any errors in the log...I don't know what to do...
I am posting my Xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log and Glxinfo through links to pastebin.com
POST UPDATE:
When running GlxGears, I get a bit of motion, and then the gears freeze for 1 second. And this goes on and on. But...if I move the mouse around, I get 1100FPS!
Now I messed a bit with xorg.conf and the "SWCursor" Option, but the above happens when this option is on "true". On "false" there is no 1100FPS, only the freezing loop...

I have an old dell inspiron 700 that I want to turn into a home file server. I have installed ubuntu 7.10 and after a huge amount of google work got all my hardware in line. Then I realised that I should have installed 10.10 So I downloaded and burnt the new ISO and tried to install it. The install does not recognize my Xircom RealPort Ethernet card but that is okay, 7.10 didn't either and I got it working post install. But 10.10 can't detect the pci hard drive. I have tried various things but since I am not that familiar with linux I am just stabbing in the dark.
What bios settings should I be aiming for? What boot options should I set and how? Why are the russians being such kill joys over the discovery of fossilized meteorites?

I been searching for months on how to get the s-video to work on my pci VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500] card. I found a site with instructions.
This is how I got it to work.
I install Debian 5.0 Lenny Desktop
added the Driver "radeon" to my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file
This work and I was able to use my tv as a monitor however when I try to play a video file from totem or vlc all I could get was audio with no video; These files work and played fine in the CRT monitor.

Long time reader, first time poster to the forums. I have installed Fedora 12 onto a desktop here. Fresh install and fully updated as of today. In this system there is a radeon 7000 graphics card that Fedora set up dual display for me. This is working fine but unfortunately im seeing a problem with the top and bottom of one of the displays.
Please see the problem here: [URL]... The mouse will go underneath or above the areas i have pointed to. Any ideas what is wrong? In fedora 9, 10, 11 this was all working fine but i did have to use xrandr manually to get dual display working. Edit: Update:
I dd not mention that i kept my home directory. On futher inspection it seems that the issue is because of a .folder in my home directory that was backed up and restored on the fresh install. To check this i added a new user to the system and logged in with a fresh home directory. Does anyone know which folder or file this setting this is stored? I tried logging out, moving .gconf .gconfd .gnome2 .gnome2_private and the .gtk folders to another location then logged in to no avail.

It all works if I boot my self compiled vanilla 2.6.35-rc3 though. The environment
Sony vaio VGN-SR21M 4GBRAM P8400, ATI HD3400 mobility. I use

If I suspend my notebook it starts the usual slow orange blinking indicating the suspend mode got reached. There is also evidence in the various log files that this works. If I try to resume it hangs a for 3 seconds and then I get the hdd-password screen from my bios and the notebook boots from zero. I couldn't find anything in /var/log/messages nor dmesg. If I first boot to windows (grub 2nd partition) and then restart and boot to linux, all the suspend works fine

I downloaded the Fedora 11 KDE LiveCD'm having some troubles on installation/initialization of the system. The livecd boots fine, but when X is started, the notebook freezes. If I delete the option 'rhgb' in the boot options of the livecd, it stops in the middle of the boot process. I deleted the 'quiet' option, and saw the notebook hangs just after the load of the drm module. I tried too with the optionnomodeset' and the option 'nomodeset' without 'rhgb', but I can't get into X. But if I use 'xdriver=vesa' in the boot options, the system starts normally and X starts normally too. So I used xdriver=vesa, and installed fedora on my notebook. But when I boot the newly installed system, it goes to a kernel panic, after the load of the drm module... The installed system behaves as the livecd

Whenever I try going into "Desktop effects" it says:
Accelerated 3D graphics is not available
Desktop effects require hardware 3D support.
I'm guessing this is a driver issue? I tried installing a driver for it, I think it was Catalyst but it didn't really work.

I have been running F12 w/ an Nvidia board (GE Force 5200) for some time now. I installed and configured that board as per the instructions on this forum (very good ones too!) and have had no problems, other than it would not connect directly to a digital/HDMI port, nor would it do vdpau, since it was an older card.
But now, I have a Radeon VisionTek 1550, that has dual outputs, one of which is DVI-D, and I have an adapter to HDMI that actually works well.
I have managed to remove most of the nvidia stuff from F12, in particular the kernel module. But I keep finding various libs getting loaded that are NVidia based. In particular, with xbmc it is looking for OpenGL rendering, and finds an NVidia version.
Sorry for the long diatribe, but how to I get rid of all of these references completely, without reinstalling fedora from scratch?
Also, another question about the radeon configuration: how do I enable and configure radeon's theatre mode via xorg.conf? FWIW: if I run aticonfig I get "no card found".

Everything when ok then I decided to reboot f@@@@K the system up kept rebooting all the time so I did a fresh install again and downloaded the Driver again but this time I need QA.
