I'm unable to display the panel icon for me-tv in unity with ubuntu 11.04. I've tried editing the whitelist in dconf-editor. Any other ideas from anyone? A Google search has also revealed nothing.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04, and now I'm experiencing some problems with the displaying of panels and icons that I'm hoping someone can help me to fix.
Situation: Running 11.04 in latest virtualbox (4.06, with guest additions installed) on a macbook pro running snow leopard (10.6.7). I'm in gnome classic (no effects) because I'm not yet used to gnome 3 and compiz doesn't run all that well for me in this virtualization set-up. But the problem, described below, is consistent from gnome 3 to classic (with effects) to classic (without effects).
Problem: When I first log in after a reboot, everything looks great in the default settings (ambiance theme, I think), but after ~ 15 seconds, the panels and icons revert to an odd looking theme that I don't particularly care for. And trying to change the settings in the "Appearance" preferences is of no help, i.e., I can change the themes, but the panels and icons remain in a stock, old-school gnome-ish theme.
I have a weird problem on 10.04 where my nm-applet icon wont show on the panel. Only when there are no known wireless AP around. if there is a previously connected wireless in the area I will see the icon but if I'm at a new place it just won't show up. nm-applet is still running, I tried to kill and restart it but the icon still doesn't show .
View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter ubuntu 10.10 upgrade (from 10.04), the Rhythmbox icon has disappeared. I open Rhythmbox, play some music, then close or mimimize the window (music continues, i.e. the program still operates from memory). But there is no panel icon anymore. Up to v. 10.04 I could reopen end control the program window via the panel icon.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've installed Office 2007 under wine, and would like to add launchers for Word, Excel, etc to the Unity launcher bar.
So, I've created a launcher on the Desktop that will run Word with wine. I've changed the icon to the Word Icon and everything works great from the desktop. If I drag that launcher to the Unity bar, it adds it, but changes the icon to the springboard default icon that new launchers use. Please see attached picture.
As a side note, I am really starting to like Unity (puts on flamesuit), but it seems very easy to break the install of 11.04. I've had to reinstall 4 times now.
I used to be able to open the Rhythmbox window by just clicking the Rhythmbox icon in the notification area. Now in Lucid it brings up a menu (isn't that what right click is for??) and I have to select "Show Rhythmbox", and sometimes I accidentally click on "Quit" and I have to start Rhythmbox again. It's a real PITA. Is there any way to make it the way it was before? I've looked at the Rhythmbox options and can't find anything about it. (Why do GNOME applications always have barely any options?)

View 3 Replies View RelatedSomeone on the forums had me uninstall pulseaudio to get pSX working, and now I don't have a volume control icon on the panel and when choosing to add stuff to the panel it isn't available.I re-installed pulseaudio through the package manager, but I have a feeling it didn't install everything that uninstalled with it.

In classic, that icon what at the top menu bar.
I recently tried gnome 3 on my netbook to see if it would work (via PPA) on ubuntu 11.04, it didn't.URL...I rolled backed to gnome 2 (by removing the PPA - comment 7 in the above link), however, now when I use unity as my desktop any changes I make to the docked icons are not saved when I logout. This seems to happen on a couple of different users, so it doesn't seem to be a user setting problem (i.e. a weird file version problem).As a work around I have unity 2D installed on my netbook (an eee 1000H) and this works fine.

So, in the Gnome desktop, I would go to gconf-editor and set some keys and I'd get my computer folder and home folder shortcut on my desktop.
This time since the unity desktop has come with a nice sidebar, I'd like to put the same icon there, in the sidebar. But I can't even access computer as Computer:/// anymore... What to do?
After I delete those screen-short software, my unity bar goes hide and never come, please help here is the picture which i delete. Now using classic desktop but i want to use unity but it comes only the full wallpaper and no bar comes. If i right click the mouse it works but where i can show the bar?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed 11.04 Beta2 and have a question regarding the mail (envelope) icon in the upper right corner (between the volumn icon and the time).
I prefer Thunderbird over Evolution, and uninstalled Evoloution. Is there a way to tell the icon to open Thunderbird. After uninstalling Evolution, the icon does not seem to have any functionality?
I switched on my machine this evening and the first thing I noticed was the home icon in the unity launcher has changed, then I noted then I noted that the window switcher icon, power-off icon and me icon in top right are also different.
On starting nautilus (clicking on home icon) it looks more like thunar (although about says its not). A screen shot showing "nautilus-thunar" and the desktop is attached.
Firefox's minimize, maximize and close icons have also changed - see other screen shot.
Anyone got any idea what's going on? Anyone else have this.
From what I gather, there's no way to remove the Trash icon from the Unity launcher, or to hide it; is this true? I noticed that if I delete ~/.local/share/Trash, the file re-appears if I click on the Trash icon in the launcher.

The only way I have found to add an application launcher to the panel is to actually launch the app, then right click it's icon on the panel and click "Keep in Launcher". This is great but I've noticed at least one of my applications (Mumble) doesn't give me that option. Is there an alternative method? (see screenshot for example)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Natty and I'm thoroughly enjoying Unity, but I've noticed that when I close Banshee, so that it is still playing music in the background, I can't drag any other window out of maximization state. btw, I don't know if "dragging out of maximization" sounds ambiguous, I mean to say that I drag the top panel and the window stops being maximized (yes, i just tried to bastardize a bastardization).

I understand the Unity environment, which I generally like, has changed how one adds things to the top panel. Now we have indicators? Is there a good description of the functionality of these indicators: how to add/remove indicators, where one can find new indicators, etc. I ask because I have been having trouble adding indicators. I tried to add the system monitor indicator. I initially added it by installing it with apt-get. But every time I reboot it has disappeared and I have to run it again from the menu. I can't figure out how to make it permanent.

By this, I mean both adding and removing indicators.I guess the developers are aware of this, and it's easier said than done. I don't know.Personally, I miss the weather and CPU temperature applets of the old Gnome layout.I tried to apply the best guide I've found to modifying the top panel, to no avail.
After I followed the instructions for the addition of three different indicators (weather, cpu frequency and CPU and RAM % usage), my top panel remained the same.I don't know whether the indicators should show up right away or only upon restart. After playing around with Ubuntu Tweaks to remove the "Recent Documents" logging, I somehow ended up losing the icons for "Applications" and "Files & Folders".
I tried lots of different things but the only thing that seemed to sort it was this:
Log out. Log in under Ubuntu Classic (for some reason dropping back to tty with Ctr, Alt and F2 didn't do it). Bring up the terminal and do code...
Log back into Ubuntu (not classic) and hopefully, you should end up with all icons back as they were.
This worked for me but I can't remember if I'd gotten rid of the ".recent-documents.xbel" file in my home folder first, so if all else fails you could try that before you start removing and re-installing Unity.
Dont know the commands for the time & date and the on/off button, so I cant create launchers for the desktop to transfer to unity? how to delete the top panel in 11.04 ? I m trying to get everything down one side and delete all the panels as I had awn or cairo menu in 10.10. Also I cant move some launchers in unity-tomboy note will move but it always goes back to where it was and bin and workspace switcher wont move at all.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhile I think Unity has its many ups and downs, I found it usable enough to choose it as my default desktop, after some customization. Somewhere in tweaking the desktop with ccsm - or elsewhere - I did something boneheaded. Now when a new window opens at the top of the screen, its title bar is hidden under the Unity panel. I could just wipe everything out and start over, but I kinda like the way things work on my desktop - with this exception. Where I might look to figure out what is letting windows be placed all the way up under the panel.
I did try creating a new account and looking at ccsm config export and comparing it to mine, but did not see anything useful. The only thing I changed with respect to window placement/handling, AFAIK, is disabling maximization at the top of the screen (in 'Grid' module); restoring that did not help. The problem turns out to be caused by using a window type 'panel' in my conky config. Changing the window type to 'desktop' cured the problem. Did not dive any deeper to analyse exactly what conky 'panel' windows do to interfere with Compiz/Unity.
