I have upgraded from fedora 12 to 13 and I noticed that gnome preview for OpenOffice documents, pdf files and photos is not working. For photos, after I open them with eog then preview is working.

I think this is about my video card drivers. so, what drivers i need to install and how i can install them?
I am running Fedora 14 on my Thinkpad T410. Tried to see what Gnome 3 shell looks like. So I went to: System->Preferences->Desktop Effects and chose GNOME Shell. Now the bottom and the top pannels are gone. I can see only the desctop and the icons on it. How can I get back to the previous settings? I tried and tried without any luck.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI put a text file on my desktop and added a couple lines of text with gedit. File type shows text/plain. Double-click opens the file in gedit which is what I want. I'm using the file to temporarily hold some snips of code that I copy from file to file, but when I copy some html into the file and save it, now file properties show it's text/html and a double-click opens the file in firefox, which isn't what I want. Is there some way to keep the file type from changing itself?

View 3 Replies View RelatedSince I enjoyed Gnome shell with Ubuntu 9.10 (but Ubuntu runs too slow on this computer for my druthers), I thought it would be fun to check out gnome shell on 11.3. I thought that since my 11.3 has gnome 2.30, that the gnome shell in the software manager would be a concomitant version, so I installed it. I then followed the directions given in the second posting of Enabling Gnome Shell in 11.3?
When I logged back in, I selected Gnome 3 Preview [even though I hadn't thought that that was what I'd installed -- (has openSUSE retired all older versions of Gnome shell?)]. The desktop won't boot (I don't know what the correct way of saying it is). The splash shows, but the icons just intermittently flash off and on at random intervals, never quite making it all the way "on." When I right click the bottom of the screen, I can select "terminal" (when I can accurately coordinate my double-click with the random, intermittent flashing), but then the terminal also does the random, intermittent flashing as well. So I can never get anything typed in. When I reboot, there's no login box.
One of the last nagging issues i'm having with F13, and it's because of a 50k config editor that is inexplicably absent from a 675mb .iso......or am I mistaken?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using F11, KDE, and Dolphin (primarily) as the file viewer. Is there any quick and easy way to be viewing a giant folder of images in the file viewer and then just highlight a few that you want to resize to 800x600 (or whatever)? Currently I have to pull them into GIMP and then resize each one. Alternatively, I can pretty easily do a command line to resize the whole folder, but I don't really need every image resized. I'm mainly going through and thinking "oh, be fun to send this one to so and so" but I don't want to send them the eitire 18Megapixel image. A nice quick resize to 50Kb and 800x600 or something would be perfect but this just hasn't appeared for me yet.

THere are time when I need to copy text from an application in the Fedora host machine and paste the text into a different app in the XP guest machine. A reinstall (several) of FC14x86_64. Epson flatbed scanner V350 that worked well in FC13 is not being recognised /no coms

View 3 Replies View RelatedOn my RHEL6 Gnome Terminal, the text is overlapping. I tried with the "Use the system fixed width font" option or changing other fonts, but they did not change. Also, I tried creating .fonts.conf file that's posted as a solution for other but this did not help.
Thing is that the first time when I installed RHEL6, it looked ok, but 2nd installation on VirtualBox client and thereafter, this happens. I'm using the same installation source and options as the 1st time. Also, "Open Terminal" option is missing from pop-up window after 2nd installation (Terminal is still available from App->System Tools; just not from popup window).
I got trouble to print a photo of 10x15 cm to HP Photopaper (which was delivered with the printer itself). I printed from the UI and set the size according to the papersize (both 10x15cm) and just hit print in "High Quality". The paper gets drawn in, but then the tiny LCD screen on the printer tells me - Wrong paper size, please insert a larger paper, I have to hit the Ok/Cancel button on the Printer but the effect is the same, the printer spits the empty photo paper in front of me.Does anyone have a tipp where to look at?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI'm running openSUSE 11.3 with GNOME. I went through the Software Manager and deleted every instance of OpenOffice.org that was left after changing to LibreOffice, and also installed Beagle (+dependencies) and Tracker with some additional packages. Then I noticed that in the Application Browser there is no text next to the icons. Only the small version of the icons centered with no text (screenshot below).
The problem is I have no idea how to restore it to the way it was. I've already deleted Beagle and Tracker and their packages to no avail. I also noticed that YaST and Control Center both look fine. It's only the Application Browser.
when I want to open a document without an extension (e.g. README),and I double click it, it opens by default with kile.How can I change this?
