Fedora Networking :: LAN Connection Is Not Active

Dec 24, 2009

First time I installed Fedora 12 and I am new to Linux OS completely. The LAN (ethernet) is coming by default and it's status is inactive. When I click on icon, it tries to connect and then shows status still as inactive. Where as my internet works in Win XP. What do I do for making it active. Second, when I try to install xDSL package for my BSNL broadband, the package is not available. Where do I get this package?

Most of the time when I go back to my computer, eth0 has disconnected if left overnight or several hours, and takes around 30 secs to reconnect to my router, finding it a little annoying as the reason I leave the computer on is for quick access to the internet. My computer is connected to the router via an ethernet cable.Used Mandriva and Windows XP on this same hardware for awhile and never came across this. How do I keep the connection to the router active?

Fedora Networking :: Connection Eth0 Never Active On Boot

Jul 16, 2011

I am trying to sort out some issues following an upgrade from F12.

I have eth0 as the connection I want to use. Prior to the upgrade, this connection was enabled and active at boot.

Now, for some reason after the upgrade it has to be manually enabled at every boot - even though when I go the Network tool, Ethernet Device > General tab - "Activate device when computer starts" is checked.

At every boot time it is inactive.

In all the ifcft-eth0 files, the ONBOOT parameter is set to "yes".

Networking :: VPN Active But No Remote Desktop Connection?

Feb 27, 2010

I am trying to connect to my Company network through VPN. I use a Lynksys router which is most likely not the problem, as I can get the VPN and Remote Desktop to work from a WinXP Pro laptop connected to the same router. I have tried several RDC clients, none of them establish a connection. The VPN connection is active, I can ping and Traceroute to it , but I cannot get the RDC to work. The RDC should connect to 189.0.0.10 on the company network.

Ubuntu Networking :: Check The Network Connection Applet, It Display Active Information Of Eth0?

Jun 7, 2010

I have a question regarding the configuration of Network Connection. My wired connection is fine right now and when I check the network connection applet, it display active information of eth0. However, when I click the Configure button, the Network Connection window appears but there's nothing in the Wired panel. Should there be a eth0 in that panel? I remember I had one before, but after I messed with some configuration of VPN, my network became unstable and I remove the Network Manager to try to solve the problem. Since then, there's nothing in my Network Connection window, though I can still connect to my router with eth0. Now even after I reinstalled the Network Manager, I still don't get anything.

Fedora Networking :: Ethernet Will Not Become Active

Jan 5, 2011

Currently I am working at a college as a student worker, and one of the classes that needs to take place requires that Fedora 12 be installed. Now, this isn't greatly important, but so far on a few of the installs I cannot get the Ethernet device to actually become active. I've tried restarting the computer, reinstalling Fedora 12, and going into the actual network area to click on "Activate" but it is grayed out. So currently, a few machines cannot connect to the internet - including the professor station. I'm not entirely sure what to do here, since most other posts I have read reported that they were able to actually click on "Activate" and it would work.

Right now, the computers are connected to the internet. The jacks do work as they were tested with computers that are able to connect to the net themselves. These computers NICs do work too as we have separate hard-drives in them booting into XP, which do connect to the net without problem.Any help would be appreciated. If anymore information is required, please let me know. I'll do my best to provide you with this information.

Networking :: Fedora 13 NIC Not Active At Boot

Jun 15, 2010

Most of my experience configuring network settings has been through various GUI tools available in GNOME and KDE. I have some older hardware that will not run KDE or GNOME and I am trying to configure the NIC. I have installed Webmin to try to configure the interface, and it does fine for setting a static address or DHCP address, but the interface (eth0) is not active at boot.

As soon as I run ifup eth0, it will use the assigned IP or pull DHCP based on settings, but I can't seem to get it to automatically activate at boot. And yes, /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 does have ONBOOT=yes set. I need two things...

1 - are there any good cli tools, ncurses or such like netcfg I can install to manage the interface (I have tried the network manager cli tools, maybe I just don't get it, but that isn't working so good for me)

2 - how to make the interface activate at boot.

Ubuntu Security :: Active Connection / Program Access To Internet

Jan 18, 2011

There is this active connection in firestarter: ec2-174-129-193-12.compute-1.amazonaws.com (Port 443 - Service HTTPS - program python)After doing ps aux | grep PID it shows: /usr/bin/python /usr/lib/ubuntuone-client/ubuntuone-syncdaemon...This comes up in the firewall in each login, how do I get rid of it and how did it get there in the first place? Another question is if there is a way to limit a program's access to the internet. For example KCalender.. The things I type up in there may be stored somewhere. How can I disable complete access to the internet for that program and any other program so they can't backup, share, check etc. ?

Ubuntu Servers :: MySQL - Setup An Active / Active Load Balanced And High Available?

Mar 11, 2011

how to setup an Active/Active Load Balanced and High Available (If one of the nodes is down the system still runs) MySQL cluster. I have found quite a few howto's but I have some things unclear in my mind. I found a few solutions like this one: [URL] or this: [URK] Those are using two or four MySQL nodes, two Load Balancers to avoid a single point of failure but only one MySQL cluster management server. What happens if the MySQL cluster management fails?

I have also found a "MySQL Master-Master Circular Replication" technique but from what I read, with this option there is a chance that conflicts will arise if node A and node B both insert an auto-incrementing key on the same table.

During the installation of Opensuse 11.2, I tried the wireless internet connection, and it kept coming back failed.I continued to install the system and when I got on, I entered the SSID (think that's the right way to say it), and the password. When showing that 'map' or whatever, it showed the SSID in the networkmanager. It also said "active".But when clicking on Mozilla Firefox, nothing happened. It just said the server is down.I'm on another Linux system now; so I know the wireless works. It worked great on a third one as well.It is some Atheros Communications, AR5001.I'm not sure what other information you need. Just let me know and I will do what I can to provide. I don't have opensuse up at the moment. I screwed up the dual boot. so right now it's been erased. I'll ask for help on that in another topic.

Fedora Networking :: Wired Networking Not Connecting In 12 With Windows Internet Connection Sharing?

Jan 16, 2011

I just want to use Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) to connect to the internet. I have done a massive amount of troubleshooting, but some of it seems to contradict itself, and the only two things that I know for sure are that it used to work, and that my Ethernet cable is not the problem. When I use Terminal utilities like ifup and dhclient it seems that it can not determine IP information, but when I try to put it in manually, the "Apply" button grays out right after I finish typing it in. When I try to connect normally, in KDE or GNOME, the icon acts like it's connecting, then instead of having the connected icon, I receive a notification that "the network has been disconnected", and it goes back to the disconnected icon.

Oh, and by the way, I know that I could probably find a workaround, but I have limited resources, and this used to work. The Linux is a Dell desktop with Fedora 12 and the Windows is a Windows 7 HP laptop.EDIT: I hope that I didn't mess something up, but I accidentally used system-network-config to try putting in the IP address there, and ended up changing it back to the original settings, but the computer is now calling it Auto Ethernet in the taskbar icon, although sudo iwconfig in the terminal still calls it eth0.

In the services also I ensured that the network manager services is on. However even though my computer cannot connect to the internet. I then tried the ping test of the modem from the address 192.168.1.1 and found that the ping test is successful. Then i tried the network administrator and there I noticed something unusual.

There are two options in the devices eth0 and eth1 thats ok but the unusual; thing is that the Activate (green button), Deactivate (red button) and even the delete buttons are in the background and I cannot select them. Isthis the problem for the network connectivity.
