This is a small screen shot of my problem: I've changed the default icon for eclipse but this problem existed before I've done that. I'm using AWN Dock. How I can get rid of it?

I just reinstalled Ubuntu Lucid Lynx and an old problem has come back. For some reason I couldn't fix it even in my previous installation. The problem is the top gnome panel. See the photo below: As you can see, the network icon is not shown properly while the Me menu is being shown twice. I can't even restart or log out or shut down at this situation without pressing the keystroke to turn the power off.

Code:
[root@localhost kostia]# lspci
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Core Processor DRAM Controller (rev 12)
00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Core Processor PCI Express x16 Root Port (rev 12)
00:16.0 Communication controller: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset HECI Controller (rev 06)
[Code].....
1. It shows root@localhost kostia, but during the installation of Fedora 13 DVD x86 I renamed localhost.localdomain into baikal as my laptop name. Very strange error. On static PC I used amour name and it works without localhost.
2. Above you can see my list of initial cards. I wish to know where is it my ethernet card? The bug #2 is that after Fedora was installed, I can't see any connections in my Network Manager. So I created Wired one myself. After that I still can't see the icon in the top-right corner to restart the connection as usually we may do that. So, what is wrong? How to make my laptop going to the Internet.

I have assigned ip address to laptop by editing /etc/network.interfaces. From next reboot the Network Manager Applet which was present on right hand upper corner, disappeared. I wonder why? This has happened with 9.04, 9.10 and now in 10.04. Another question is, are Network Manager settings (ip) and /etc/network/interfaces do correspond to same thing or not? As I have narrated above, since network manager applet is no more visible how to see the physical network cable connectivity status (as we do in windows xp)? (is there any other app of such kind or what?)

I recently installed fedora 15 on my computer but I have a huge problem. I can connect to my router wirelessly for a couple of minutes only. Afterwards my computer has no Internet connection although the network manager and the icon on the upper bar says that i am still connected. I tried editing the /etc/rc.local and /etc/resolv.conf as mentioned in other posts in here bit no luck so far.

I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 (both 64-bit) and my USB WiFi adapter which previously worked fine stopped working. The adapter is a Hama USB stick based on the Ralink rt73 chipset. I've tried using the Ralink drivers that come with 10.04 (both rt2800usb and rt73usb) but neither work. When I use rt2800usb, the adapter is recognized as interface wlan0, however I can't see any wireless networks. When I use rt73usb (and blacklist rt2800usb to avoid conflicts) I no longer have a wlan0 interface and there is no wireless adapter shown in the network manager. I've pasted in the results of lsmod, lsusb, and ifconfig -a (with MAC addresses removed) below.

3 computers in the house run various windows based programs and everything is fine with them connecting to the internet as far as putting in the security password to log in and get online. My old back up computer that I use in the basement that has Ubuntu 9.10 was working fine with the secured network situation up until today.I booted up the computer this morning and it automatically connected as it typically does and I was reading some email and then the computer froze, which on rare occasions it does.
Upon reboot I got a window that asked for the password for the Network Manager Applet which I supplied and then it asked for the password for the secured internet connection which I supplied. It would not connect. After numerous tries of disabling the wireless and enabling the wireless and entering the Network Manager Applet password and the secured internet password I still get no connection.
I notice that when it is trying to connect, the window comes up on the screen that shows that there is reception from the modem, but there is also a little "lock" icon like I'm locked out of the connection.I finally found a way to get rid of the Network Manager Applet password problem but that still didn't alleviate the connection problem.

I am having the problem enabling Bluetooth on my Dell studio 1555.
When I start System->Preference-Bluetooth Manager, I get message Connection to Bluez failed :
Bluez daemon is not running, blueman-manager cannot continue.
Some information :

dmesg | grep 'Bluetooth' .....
rfkill list
0: hci0: Bluetooth
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no

Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no
I have reinstalled, removed rebooted and installed bluez, bluez-utils, Blueman, bluetooth number of times now. Two attachments are included,
BlueZ output screen
Bluetooth output screen
Bluetooth works perfect, when I boot lucid using live CD, So I guess there is some problem with the installation. I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.4. It never worked with 9.10 and its continuing the same way.
After a restart, I see bluetooth icon, but its grey all the time. Two more screen shots..
Bluetooth output screen (Turn on)
Bluetooth output screen (Turned on)
sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth status
* bluetooth is running

What does it mean if you boot from a live CD, the CD spins, a screen appears with the keyboard and human icons at the bottom, then a blank screen appears with a blinking cursor in the upper left corner - and that's it? It just stays that way.
I've tried two different discs, one 10.04 and one 10.10; and two different disc drives.

I have 5 or 6 computers on my home network. Most of them are wired connections, a few wireless. All the Linux machines run Samba and they are all configured identically. Workgroup name is the same on all, user=share on all and they all have a share or 2. I can ping any one from any other but they don't all show up when I run smbtree, usually from my wireless laptop. Maybe I should run it on all the Linux boxes and see what the result is, but I've never done that. My question is, why do they not all show up? One of them never shows in the list. The Windows boxes always do.

I have just installed Fedora 13, everything seems to work but the Internet connection. 3 devices are shown in the "Network Configuration" window (devices tab)(under "Network Device Control")"Network Cards" (wired) (wireless) and even the Motorola Modem from the ISP as well as all of the primary and secondary "DNS's", but will not connect! I have Broadcom devices on a Dell Latitude D600 Laptop. On the upper right of the desktop, the connection icon shows when I plug and unplug the cat5e, so it sees something there, but will not connect.

I was browsing the net very well and without any issues for the past 15 days since I installed FC14. Fantastic experience and then suddenly yesterday after nearly 2 hours of a smooth online session I lost internet connectiivity. At that point I noticed that the network icon on top was showing a red cross. After clicking on it I could NOT eth0. I specifically remember seeing it there before.I checked the cables and the setting to no avail and just could not get it back. Any idea what I should be doing to see eth0 in the connection? Also FYI I have been noticing this from day one since I installed FC14----When going through administration-->network-->One cannot see the red and GREEN activate button that I am used to seeing in FC9. In fc14 its greyed out. So I actually had to go and enter the /etc/init.d/network start command to change the status from inactivate to activate. Also the network manager does not seem to be managing eth01 as it does not appear as an entry in its console.

After inputting
nm-applet --sm-disable
It gave me:
** (nm-applet:1722): WARNING **: <WARN> constructor(): Couldn't initialize the D-Bus manager.

I have been using ubuntu 10.04 LTS for the last 5 months, used tata photon plus for networking. Everything went fine when couple of days ago, after doing normal updates as listed by the update manager, sound went off.. to solve this, I had to remove and reinstall certain packages as listed in [URL] ...+documentation, I had to restart, after restarting, the sound problem was gone but the network manager icon went off, the modem was not getting power from the computer though the LAN wire was connected. To add to dismay, the mobile broadband connections that I had added to the network manager were gone. I tried adding the tata photon plus (huwaein) again but could not be added, reinstalled usb-mode switch data and related packages, but still the computer does not detect the photon as usb device. I have broadband dsl connection and tata photon plus too but cant use any of them.
