View 2 RepliesI've been trying to find a single set of instructions that define how to configure Fedora 12 to authenticate using Active directory without 100 steps (plus or minus) but difficult at best. I have about 12 Fedora 12 servers running as stand alone servers in a Windows 2003 network.
Can someone point me to a great set of instructions that can easily be replicated across multiple servers and a few workstations?
I want to install a FTP server (VSFTPD) on my Redhat Enterprise Linux 5.5 and i want to use Active Directory LDAP (windows server 2008 enterprise) for authentication. I can't add my windows LDAP to FTP server. I try my best but i cant to config it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am trying to integrate my centos machine with active directory [Windows Server 2008] using Kerberos and LDAP. I can now successfully SSH to my linux machine as an active directory user. Then it automatically creates home directory for that particular user using the PAM module.
My problem is that i cannot login to GDM using the same active directory account. Should I do some configuration changes for GDM login to take place using an active directory account.?
I have a multi user system for my roommates and myself that has separate folders for each of us. I've got user authentication working with samba, but unless I set every file and folder readable/writeable by all users, I can't browse it or edit the files. This isn't ideal as the shares are open to other users access, so I'm hoping there's a way to keep folders at 750 and files at 660 while allowing samba users to browse, delete and edit. Also, the samba share is actually a mounted NFS share from another server. Both the NFS server and the Samba server have the same users/uid's. When a file is created from a Windows host via the Samba client, the NFS server's permissions do show that the correct user owns the files, but since the files aren't mode 666 but 640 I can't edit or delete the file.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSomething that has been in the pipleline at work for a while is user-based web directories. Main PDCs are running Windows Server 2003 using Active Directory, ideally what would happen is that users have a web share under [URL].. - the server behind this would be Linux (either Fedora or CentOS).
What kind of configuration would be needed for Apache to make this possible? The way I have planned so far is to have the Linux box auth against the AD domain (possibly joined), with Apache setup to share local public_html folders. Not sure how I can get rid of the tilde from the start of the username, but it should be pretty easy.
Attach a Fedora/RHEL/CentOS system to an Active Directory DomainBelow is a step by step outline of how to configure a Linux Samba fileserver to use an Active Directory domain for authentication and authorization in place of flat files. Note that this configuration has been replicated using Fedora 10, RHEL 5.3 and CentOS 5 since they all more or less share the same code base.me of the example server in this document is erver1.domain.forest.org, substitute correctly where appropriate. At the very least following packages must also be installed:
sambasamba-commonsamba-clientkrb5-workstationopenldap-clientsIt would be prudent to understand the underlying concepts of how Kerberos and Samba work prior to deploying this type of server. I find that SE-Linux will interfere with Samba services, particularly with winbind. I usually set SE-Linux to be in a permissive mode. It is possible to update the SE-Linux policies but that is outside the scope of this document, i.e you're on your own. In some cases I turned SE-Linux off since it was causing winbind to stop responding.
1. Set NTP to use the correct server for your Active Directory domain:shell> system-config-timeSet the primary NTP server to be your domain/forest NTP server2. Make backups of and edit the following system configuration files:a. shell> cp /etc/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf.bakb. shell> vi /etc/resolv.conf

Recently I installed Fedora 13 (GNOME) on my computer, I previously had Ubuntu 9.04.For the most part everything has been painless, here are though some things I need help on.
1. Is there a way to modify GDM? Every time I boot up and go to login, the login manager is very small and doesn't fit the screen.
2. Is there a way to add a shutdown option directly up on the top right panel where you usually log out? It's kind of annoying to have to log out, then shut down instead of just shutting down directly.
3. Because I starting using Linux with Debian based system (Ubuntu), I got used to sudo. Since Fedora uses su, can someone tell me the proper way to use it? Personally I find installing a program through the terminal faster than Add/Remove.
4. This is my biggest grip upon moving over to F13. For some reason certain programs don't display properly after launching them. Example, I installed OpenArena, a first person shooter, and launched it to play it, however, everything looks distorted. It's slanted diagonally. I think it may have something to do with the nouveau drivers that, if I remember right, are installed by default on F13.
I attached a screenshot of how Blender looks on launching, it's the exact same problem in OpenArena. Is there a way I can modify nouveau's settings or uninstall it all together? And/or tips on this issue?
I am used to a certain root menu. I want to be able to modify the root menu. how do I do it. I mean the menu that come up when I right click on the desktop..
I am on x86_64 FC12 - Gnome.
currently it has "create folder, create launcher etc.. "
I can't modify some folders. I'm trying to move a file into a folder and I get this message-

I understand why but how do I get around it?
I am in the process of setting up an Asterisk server with Broadvoice services. I am having issues with making outbound calls and Broadvoice suggests I modify the /etc/hosts file in order to add their proxy server IP address and name. I login to my server as root and get the following command line header
[root@root tmp]#
I entered cd thinking this is what I need to change directory but fails. What is the command I need to enter in order to get to the /etc/host file so I can change it? How do I confirm an /etc/host file even exists?
I recently started using SVN with Apache for my web development, although I find it really annoying that I have to issue two SVN commands (one local, one remote) to update my web site. I have been looking into SVN post-commit hooks to solve this problem. The only problem is that apache does not have permission to modify files in my user directory... So here is how everything is setup. I am running Slackware 13 full install. There have been no installations overriding any of the default installs.

I have just bought a HP Min and installed xfce Fedora 14.
However, I would like to modify the way the function keys are pressed. Currently I have to press the 'fn' key down and then press a function key.
The function keys also have a second action. For example, Brightness up and down, volume control, play, fast forward, mute, wifi, etc.
However, those secondary actions only requires a single click.
As I use my HP for doing a lot of programming using emacs. I need the function keys for compiling, book marking, cleaning, uncommenting, etc. Is slows me down having to click on an extra 'fn' key.
I am wondering if it is possible to change the actual function keys to be a single click instead of having to click on the 'fn' all the time. And change the secondary action volumen, brightness, etc, to using the 'fn'?

Question... I want to implement an Active Directory like authentication in a Linux-only environment. My office has approximately 15-25 local desktop PCs all running Ubuntu 10+ and one Ftp & SVN server running Ubuntu 10+.
Each developer has his/her own personal local account on his PC, and the shared PCs have different, local accounts for those developers. The FTP server has ONE (!!) account that everybody uses to access it, as does SVN.
The big picture is that I would like to install & configure a VPN server for remote developers. Before doing that, I'd like to find a way to unify the users across the network so that there exists only one UserX in the network.
I want to integrate the postfix with active directory that postfix can get the user information from active directory.

My boss has commissioned me with creating a new file server to replace a M$ server that is installed now. We want to go with Linux for many reasons, but one big thing we want to be able to do is still manage permissions using M$ type permissions from our XP desktop's rather than unix style permissions. How would this be accomplished on a CentOS box?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a freshly installed CentOS 5.4 box which I'm trying to get AD authentication working on. I have AD authentication via kerberos working for SSH, but when I try and have it work for SMB shares I'm getting an access denied error. What's even more odd is that when I tell pam to use winbind to authenticate SSH...it works just fine. Wbinfo -a username%password authenticates fine and getent passwd and group enumerates the AD users and groups ok. My smbd.log was throwing the following error "Failed to verify incoming ticket with error NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE" but has since stopped for some reason, but googling this indicated I needed re-join the machine to the domain, which I have.

I want to start to play with "homemade" kernels. (To get some experiences in this subject). I want to do this step-by-step. I have already read a lot about this. I have a Fedora 10 running. So I want to start with this. I have read that there is a "special" way to create a kernel for Fedora. [URL] OK. I understand this +/-. When you build a new kernel with an other version number, you have to rebuild all the modules with this new kernelversion, and you have to install these also.
But : I want to start with modify only some parameters in my kernel config. Do I need to rebuild and re-install the modules also? Will it not be enough to rebuild only the kernel? (vmlinuz) Where can I find some information about the options I can disable in my kernel to speedup my system? (boot process ed). I want to suppress the loading of unneeded modules. I want to understand the options in menuconfig (and there are a lot of options ! ! )
I wondered if there was a way in Fedora (I'm running 12) to rename Firefox search plugins as they appear in the search bar's dropdown list.
