On a fresh FC14, I am unable to drag a gnome-panel by holding the ALT-key. I would need the gnome-panel on the second screen. How to do that now? As per gnome manual it should still be working with the ALT key.
View 7 RepliesOn FC14/gnome I created a panel on the bottom of the desktop. After reboot the panel shows up on the top of the desktop. The panel cannot be moved to the bottom. Can go into panel "properties" and under "Orientation" selecting "Bottom" but after a second the botton switches back to "Top" without moving the panel.
The workaround was to create a new panel on the bottom, set it up, then delete the old panel from the top. When the machine is rebooted the panel goes back to the top. Seems like a basic gnome panel bug.
I right clicked on the panel and clicked "New Panel". This actually did nothing the first few times. Eventually it produced a panel on the right side of the screen. When I tried to alt+drag it to move it to my other screen, it won't move. The top and bottom panel do move appropriately.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to FC10 from FC8 and my Gnome-panel no longer spans both screens in my dual monitor configuration. This worked fine in FC8, and I can't seem to figure out how to make this config work in FC10.
I've tried Xinerama and Twinview, and various configurations in xorg.conf, and cannot seem to make it happen.
How to make both my panels (top and bottom) go across both screens?
I need the steps to troubleshoot this:
If I:
1. Add drawer(s) on the gnome panel
2. add items to one or more of those drawers
3. reboot then:
1. all empty drawers can operate normally
2. drawers that have stuff in it cannot be opened.
Whenever i put a panel on the bottom and deselect the expand option in the panels preferences... after i log back in the panel has repositioned itself to the top of the page... i put it down and the same thing happens...
is there any way to fix this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI reinstalled and forgot how I added a panel to my second screen, cause when you add a panel you choose left right top or bottom, but no option for second screen... finally I added a new panel, then right click on the new panel> properties, then unchecked "expand" then was able to move the new panel to second monitor, then set to whatever side and recheck "expand" then it sticks to the second screen, then add to panel, and select window list, then all new windows will be shown on the appropriate panel/screen

Therefore, I am looking for some sort of workaround that resolves the issue without having to revise my desktop layout in the process.I am running a dual monitor setup through nVidia's TwinView setting. The primary monitor is 1600x900, secondary is 1440x900, and the secondary is placed to the right of primary. I am running Lucid with the compiz window manager.
On the primary monitor's portion of the screen area, I have a right- and bottom-side panel, and the secondary monitor has only a bottom-side panel. When maximizingapplications on the primary monitor, the bottom-side panel area is taken into account and the vertical resize ends there. However, the application maximizes underneath the right-side panel to the monitor's full horizontal dimension and thereby becomes partially obscured. The issue, as best I can tell, is that the window manager does not recognise a panel that is officially positioned in the center of the X screen as being a boundary despite it being linked to the right edge of the monitor, which does qualify as a boundary.
Causing the application to maximize over the panel is not an acceptable solution, as it denies me access to the utilities I have set up there. The so-called "autohide" is also unacceptable, as that simply causes the panel to drift onto the secondary monitor and then enter a loop where it flips back and forth between monitors when I attempt to access it.
I've just installed 11.04 and I have switched to the classic gnome. When I enable my second monitor the gnome panel moves to the 2nd monitor, though I would like to have it on my primary. It used to be that I could hold alt and move the panel to any edge of any screen. This doesn't work anymore. How to move the classic gnome panels?

On Debian I used to drag/drop the top panel and place it to the right. With this install the top panel is locked on top, gconf 'locked' checkbox is unlocked.Is this a bug or a feature? can we work around.
View 7 Replies View RelatedTrying the various settings (and noticing ubuntu gnome users recently had the same exact OPPOSITE problem -- they can't SHOW hidden files in dolphin) to hide my hidden files in dolphin is not working. The settings are saved OK, but those damn (ending in tilde, ie "~") files do NOT ever hide! I even see the correct little green recycling symbol on them, indicating they're identified as such, but no actual hiding goes on..
Nautilus, which I've used before (but have grown tired of, and was looking forward to dolphin), also has a weird issue that seems to have appeared with FC13 (I'd been using FC12 'til now mostly because of this) - there's no way (AFAIK) to tell it to show the location; to see it, you have to click Go->Location each time. Previously I could set it to print out the whole file or server path and it would stay that way when I opened new windows.. This is on fresh install & update.. kernel is 2.6.35.11-83.fc14.x86_64.
Seeing this on two systems that went through F13-F14 upgrade.

symptom: via right click on a gnome panel, perform "add to panel" and choose Dwell Click.
Gnome panel bites the dust with SIGSEGV at this point, restarts, and then you've got dwell click on the panel.
Anyone else seeing this, and better yet, have a solution?
Before upgrade to 11.04, I can drag and drop some *bin or *sh file to taskbar as quick launcher. So, I want to drag these applications to the launcher panel in ubuntu 11.04, but it's rejected. I searched and only found that I can drag an application from app list to the launcher instead of.

I've managed to ALT-RIGHT-click-add some launchers to the top gnome-panel. When i now click on a launcher the gnome-panel crashes(?) and reappeares, but the program starts without problems. If i do this two times in a row (1 sec diff or so) the gnome-crash screen appears and i've got to log out although all the programs are still running without any problems.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 with Gnome 2.30.2 desktop environment. When I drag a window it only shows the outline of the window while doing that. How can I change the settings so that not just the outline but the whole window still shows while I'm dragging it.

The problem is that I cannot get it back no matter how much I hoover or click with the mouse - it is gone!...So how do I get it back??? View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I just updated my IdeaPad to Natty and played around with Unity. The performane was absolutely unbearable so I installed Unity2D from the software center. Now when I start the session everything seems to be fine at first. Whenever I move the mouse over the panel though it seems to switch to my old gnome-panel from the "Classic" session (with some missing icons). When I move the mouse over that panel again it switches back to the Unity panel style. What is going on? Can I fix this somehow? I will have to use the classic session until I get a working consistent behavior
