Fedora :: Panel Bar In Middle Of Screen On Pannable Display
Aug 9, 2010
On fedora 12, I could make my EEE PC 1024x600 display pannable by using xrandr:xrandr --output LVDS1 --mode 1024x600 --panning 1024x768...Everything worked. After upgrading to Fedora 13, the bottom panel bar is in the old position, and over any windows that extend below line 600.Is there something I need to do to get the panel bar to go to the bottom of the screen like it did in Fedora 12?

I have had this problem with all installations of Maverick Meerkat. Moving the default clock from the upper panel to the lower panel makes it bahave strangely. When clicked on, it now appears in the middle of the screen (sometimes even higher depending on resolution). This never happened prior to Maverick Meerkat.
How do I go about to fix this strange bug?
Attached is a screen shot of what I mean.

I upgraded to FC10 from FC8 and my Gnome-panel no longer spans both screens in my dual monitor configuration. This worked fine in FC8, and I can't seem to figure out how to make this config work in FC10.
I've tried Xinerama and Twinview, and various configurations in xorg.conf, and cannot seem to make it happen.
How to make both my panels (top and bottom) go across both screens?

I have just updated to karmic. For some odd reason, the time/date indicator on the top panel now spreads the data over two lines, rather than placing them side by side. There doesn't seem to be any option in the preferences program to control this.
This means that the panel cannot be reduced below a two line minimum. Not only have I lost desktop space, but the panel icons have expanded to suit the new thicker panel.

I'm a bit of a nube with Linux. Have had it installed and Acer Veriton for a while but after last yum update it now hangs on the blue screen with the F bubble in the middle. I can login remotely OK but am not sure what to look for. It seems to be something X11 related but I'm not sure. I would post the relevant logs but am not sure which ones are associated with this problem.

I have installed Fedora 11 and have been using it for about a 4 months now. Everything has been working just fine until this morning when I booted up the computer and it hung at the blue screen with the F bubble in the middle. I waited about 10 minutes without any change to the system. I held down the power button to power off and tried starting the computer again with the same result.

I'd like to put an applet exactly in the middle of my Gnome Panel, I can't do it manually as the applet size varies so I need a way to put it in the middle always. The applet is dockbarX (a window list) so when I open or close a window the size of the applet changes and then it's not in the middle. Here you are an screenshot of what I'm talking about:[URL]..

Playing around with 11.2 RC2 since a few hours. This is my first encounter with Amarok 2. Still trying to find everything I used in Amarok 1. But one thing annoyes me.
Right in the middle of the window is a panel for which I see no use. I found I could remove the things that are in there, but now there is a text that orders me to push the + and to add things (never in my ...). I managed to move the borders at the left/right of it to make it smaller, but still a piece of annoying, space taking, part of the panel is there.
Did anyone succeed in removing it completely and does she/he want to share the howto with me?

I've upgraded from Slackware 11 to 12.2 and now my mouse cursor just sits there in the middle of the screen! I've managed (using the keypad to move the mouse cursor) to edit the /etc/X11/XF86Config config file, but all to no avail. I've googled for an answer but I don't understand all the talk about "blacklist". I've got a Pentium 4, 101 keyboard, ps 2 mouse.

Introduction: After quite some time I have used windows i have returned to Linux, I used to love Linux but than I had to use windows for gaming purposes. Now, I have decided to try Linux again in dual boot with windows 7 ultimate. Installation was pretty smooth, I successfully installed Ubuntu 10.10 (64 bit amd).
1: I have a dual screen setup, one 17'' screen in the left and a main 22'' screen in the middle. It works perfectly in windows but for some bizarre reason I can't manage to configure my 22'' inch screen as a main screen in ubuntu. Furthermore, when I set them together the smaller screen (which it sets as main) as some weird location issues. (may have something to do with 2 and 3).
2: My 17'' inch screen (mentioned above), is a native 1280X1024. But ubuntu doesn't give me that as an option. I have 1360X768 (which is over the native) and 1152X864.
3: This is probably the cause for the 2 first problems. I have installed ATI CATALYST control panel in order to fix those problems, and it says : " There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux edition. It could be caused by the following. No ATI graphics driver is installed, or the ATI driver is not functioning properly. Please install the ATI driver appropriate for you ATI hardware, or configure using aticonfig."

I initially installed Debian with the Gnome desktop. I recently installed the KDE desktop enviro to try it out, but when I log-in to it, a big grey box with a white horizontal volume level bar in it shows up in the middle of the screen, and you can't get rid of it. It is always on top, on top of any other open app or window. Trying to quit Kmix from the panel bar doesn't help, it doesn't even get rid of Kmix, it immediately reloads and pops back up in the bottom panel bar. Also, you can't adjust the volume with the Kmix icon, when you raise the volume lever, as soon as you let go, it goes back down to 0 level. I tried searching, but couldn't find anyone else who complained of the same problem. Using pkilll to kill Kmix didn't help either, it just reloads.

I right clicked on the panel and clicked "New Panel". This actually did nothing the first few times. Eventually it produced a panel on the right side of the screen. When I tried to alt+drag it to move it to my other screen, it won't move. The top and bottom panel do move appropriately.

I recently decided to try KDE4 and would like the change the clock on the panel to display 12 hour format and not the default 24hour format but i can not find where to change this option currently the clock looks like the attached picture. Gnome has this option and I would like to see it in KDE if it exists in the default clock. I am willing to replace the default KDE clock with a seperate widget if one exists for this.

Few months ago I stood on my netbook running F11 and broke the screen. I don't believe there's anything else wrong with it as the lights and fans act as normal when I turn it on. I hooked it up to a monitor but it doesn't automatically display on the external screen. So I have a pretty odd and possibly quite difficult request. Any step-by-step guide of which buttons to press after turning the machine on, in order to get it to switch to the external display? I just need something along the lines of, press enter, tab, type password, enter, press alt-a, down, down, down, enter, tab, etc. Another possible solution, a very long shot, would be a boot disk that defaults to an external screen?

I'm moving from Ubuntu to Fedora 13 and note,to my delight, that ICEWM is an option. I much prefer that, or Joe's WM to the biggies like Gnome or KDE.the problem is how do I select ICEWM? I feel sorta stupid here. I see nothing on the menus or the control panel which applies and the splash screen is devoid of a selection. That leaves the command line. Have I missed something? Is there no GUI to do this with? How do I change to ICEWM?
