Fedora :: Borders Not Shown In Images By "Take Screenshot" / Resolve It?
Mar 29, 2011
The application located at Applications>Accessories>Take Screenshot is not working properly.
When i click some image with it, it does not show windows borders irrespective the selection of include windows borders option...any suggestions?
Recently upgraded to Karmik and use KphotoAlbum version 4.0.2 for photos. On startup error messages says "exif2 library" not installed. Synaptics package manager indicates it is installed. The end result is that "Images" plug-in is grayed out and exif searches cannot be done, resulting in photos being displayed out of order.I used "Ubuntu Software Center" to install package.
Somehow I got libjpeg out of my system, and can't get it back working. I have installed jpeg-8b package, applications installed by it work, but not "system-wide" support for jpeg. Eg. I can use "cjpeg", but Eye of Gnome (image viewer) gives me "Unrecognized image file format" error.
Could you please point me to some right solution? Where does Debian look for this library?
I just reinstalled Ubuntu Lucid Lynx and an old problem has come back. For some reason I couldn't fix it even in my previous installation. The problem is the top gnome panel. See the photo below: As you can see, the network icon is not shown properly while the Me menu is being shown twice. I can't even restart or log out or shut down at this situation without pressing the keystroke to turn the power off.
I had installed compiz and emerald when I was using Fedora 9, upgraded to 10 (compiz and emerald still working at this stage) tho when I upgraded to 11 compiz and emerald seem to have crashed (i upgraded using preupgrade both times, maybe this might be a bit of a problem...) Since upgrading to 11, neither compiz or emerald would work. Ive tried reinstalling both compiz and emerald, and even erasing them both, restarting and then installing (both times thru yum).
This has brought back compiz and the effects (I can use AWN, desktops on a cube etc) but there is no window borders (cant move, resize etc). Ive tried different window managers (emerald, gtk and even kde4 has been installed..) and tried reloading the window mangers thru the fusion icon. Nothing seems to work, unless I stop compiz from running at startup (but then I lose all the desktop 'candy'). Searching the net has brought up a couple of options (Under CCSM):
- Check the box "Windows Decorations" and under its properties write emerald --replace (or whatever WM)
My totem can't watch any video but vlc is so good. this is my Problem: screenshot 1 : after select a video screenshot2: do it as that i installed total gstream plugin( "total" as in ubuntu) and used codec win but not solved.
My screen capture software, shutter and system's default "take screenshot", do not function normal any more. It can only capture the desktop wallpaper, not any other elements on the desktop, nor any other opened windows. It's just like taking an x-ray picture by passing all the other objects/elements/running programs on top of the desktop wallpaper. Any ideas? I am using Fedora 14 64 bit. The screen capture software were working fine, though.

I am running Linux from a DVD, not installed. I am not good with installing software, but since the DVD cannot be corrupted, I am content to operate this way. Lately, I have been having problems that previously did not occur. When I try to click on the checkbox to get rid of emails, it doesn't register in most cases, or when it does, I am clicking multiple times so it registers twice, meaning it is unchecked again. Even more frustrating is some issues that are affecting my ability to update my business. I am trying to modify spreadsheets (text not calculations).
Whenever I try to click & drag to select something to change, it keeps jumping around to select only some of what I want, something else or some combination of the 2. When I try to copy and paste several fields from 1 column to another, everything from the several fields in the source column ends up together in the last field in the target column. I am also trying to download some images from a website. There is a single column of links to the images. I have to click on the link to get to the image in order to copy it, then back out to continue looking for more links to do the same.
My computer keeps jumping back 2 steps, then forward 2 steps, and sometimes I lose my place in that list. I could deal with it if it were a small number of links, but this is a list of probably close to 20,000 links. Again, i am operating off of a live DVD so this should not be corruptible, but this has just started happening, and has been an issue the last several sessions.
using the update maneger to update on ubuntu new linux images available 2.6.31-17 generic and after the download is complete both images exist in the grub menu should i remove them ? or just remove them from the boot menu ? and if so how could i do each.
I know that ImageMagick's convert program can be used as follows to convert a collection of images -- say, in PNG format -- to a PDF file:
convert *png output.pdf
The problem with this is that each image is then stretched to fit on one page, whereas I would like to keep the original dimensions of the images and put as many as possible on one page in the PDF file before moving on to another page.
I am using fedora 12 genome. I install open office 3.. by these command: 1- tar xvzf OOo_3.0.0_LinuxIntel_install_xxxxxx.tar.gz 2- su to root 3- cd into the RPMS( where all RPMS package were present) 4- BY RPMS auto installer. I install all package. There are two folder in my "/opt" folder. openoffice.org and openoffice.org3. But office is not shown in application start menu, but when we check it by add/remove software option this is show that it install.

I am just spent half an hour hunting for a thing that should be totally available already:USB install images of Ubuntu, knoppix and all the others. And, the only good way are so far complicated tutorials where you extract the stuff from an CD image. Why??Hasn't everybody notices that CDs/DVDs are vanishing big time? That more and more systems don't have the readers anymore? Instead of following a 10 point instruction list, it would be nice to just be able to download a Ubuntu 8.10 or whatever USB image and be able to beam that DIRECTLY to a USB stick with a dd command.
Or am a missing something here? Does this exist? It should by no means be mariginal, considering how important USB stick in specific and flash memory in general have become.
I have 5 or 6 computers on my home network. Most of them are wired connections, a few wireless. All the Linux machines run Samba and they are all configured identically. Workgroup name is the same on all, user=share on all and they all have a share or 2. I can ping any one from any other but they don't all show up when I run smbtree, usually from my wireless laptop. Maybe I should run it on all the Linux boxes and see what the result is, but I've never done that. My question is, why do they not all show up? One of them never shows in the list. The Windows boxes always do.
I'm trying to upgrade my current fedora 8 box to fedora 10. I downloaded the cd images and burned from the fedora website. After I booted my laptop using the fedora installation cd, the anaconda program started and went immediately to the keyboard selection, language selection, etc. but no upgrade option screen was shown at all until the point that I have to choose my partitions where it was obvious that a fresh installation was being done.
Using crtl+f2 I checked the /tmp/anaconda.log file, whoch has the warning: "step install type does not exist". At this point I do not know exactly what is going on.
There is a thread in this forum that points to this website [URL] as a place for good directions on getting the new Java and the new Firefox to cooperate with one another. I followed it and was unable to get that to happen. To test it I used the official U.S. clock website. Don't quite know what to ask, except what did I do wrong? I following the directions to the letter, but in the "aboutlugins" part, Java doesn't show up.
i just downloaded the newest kde spin from fedora's web site.installed fine, but have noticed that only 3.2 gigs of 4 is being shown on the os.the bios see's 4.this doesn't happen on windoze but it happened on linux mint 64 bit also.why is linux distro's not seeing it?
I am having difficulty with my brother hl-2040 printer. Linux recognizes the printer and it's set as the default. The job shows up in the printer queue as completed, but nothing comes out of the printer.
I've always been a fan of Fedora since the first distro. I remember downloading 4 cds and then relizing that I only needed one. ;D Anyways, I've been using Ubuntu for years. I've gotten tired of the Ubuntu fan boys and just the responses I get from saying that Ubuntu was my distro. I've moved to Fedora to simply learn and understand the yum system which I already enjoy using in the terminal.
All of that set aside, I've kept my Ubuntu /home partition (ext4) in tact as I always do moving from distro to distro and have never had a problem. The thing is, all the distros I've tried have deb based. Now, my /home partition is roughly 56gbs. Nautilus shows free space as 8gbs currently on my parition so I know the files are still there but why won't Fedora read them? It must be a permission thing, but what? If I must loose my /home it's fine, however I'd much prefer not to.
I did some modification of fstab, and works, but for some strange reason, there are drives shown in the Places menu that shouldn't be there when the drives (they are usb drives) are unplugged. I had to put them in fstab, because they are mp3 players and I need user privelages in order to sync them. With nothing plugged in the usb ports,I checked, and they aren't shown in mtab, and only Sansa-e260 and JOSHS PHONE are shown in fstab, although as far as I know, they shouldn't appear in Places when unmounted. Is there a way to reset it?
I have installed fedora 13 on my dell inspiron 14 r laptop recently.but no network icon is shown on top right corner.well i tried from system menu list and manually configured it.i have wired connection and tried my best but unable to browse the net.
I've got a Toshiba Satellite L655D-S5109 and the gnome cpu temp applet only shows 3 cpu's. Its a dual core AMD Turion II - I would have expected 4 cpu in the temp applet.
I have a problem when tried to upgrade my fedora 12 to fedora 13...
I run this command : su - yum update rpm ---- running success yum -y update --- running success
After this, my laptop hang so i force to shutdown by pressed power button ! Next problem which is after i boot my laptop, it always shows me, GRUB prompt shell, GRUB > (commands GRUB) !
Code: GNU GRUB version 0.97 (640K lower / 3072K upper memory) [ Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible completions of a device/filename. ] grub>
I already run this command : Code: grub> find /grub/grub.conf (hd0,5)
grub> root (hd0,5) Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
grub> setup (hd0) Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists... no Checking if "/grub/stage1" exists... yes Checking if "/grub/stage2" exists... yes Checking if "/grub/e2fs_stage1_5" exists... yes Running "embed /grub/e2fs_stage1_5 (hd0)"... 30 sectors are embedded. succeeded Running "install /grub/stage1 (hd0) (hd0)1+30 p (hd0,5)/grub/stage2 /grub/menu .lst"... succeeded Done. But when I reboot, it always shown me GRUB prompt shell.
I installed FC10 but can not see mouse pointer (it was so also during the installation process). Mouse is working, Crtl shows pointer's position, moving over sensitive areas activates them but no pointer can be seen. The Mouser Property Tool doesn't show the part for selecting pointer themes (as given in Help). FC9 on the same computer worked ok, FC10 on other computers work ok, too.
I had F11 which was working OK'ish on my laptop and decided to upgrade to F12 when it was available. This was not too successful and I started getting problem with updates to the extent that I could not install any as I got errors which stopped the updates. Bit the bullet and backed up all the data then wiped the disk and started from a clean downloaded DVD of the full F12. Still getting problems running the updates (output below) and trying to install/run VirtualBox is also failing (also below). The build and source mentioned show as broken links, where do I go next?

I'm having the weirdest thing with F13. I HAD a HP 8430 with docking station and external 22" monitor. Worked well, using the RADEONHD drivers. Now I have a HP 8530p laptop. At startup, as soon as the login would show, the screen (both laptop lid and external display) go black. To resolve, I have to disconnect the DVI connector to be able to see the login screen. After initialization of the laptop display (showing login screen) I can connect the DVI connector again.
When I'm logged in and have the DVI connector connected again, I go to GNOME monitor preferences and see, besides my laptop display, my external display, not once but TWICE. if I enable the wrong one, my screen goes black again. If I enable the right one, my external display works as expected. I made sure that the monitor is connected only ONCE with DVI.
I'm using a freshly installed F13 with the default setup, so RADEONHD is being used. My laptop has the following video device (from lspci): 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3650. The bad thing is I don't know where to go for analysis to get this fixed... any hints?
