I just did a clean install of Fedora 12 on a system running Fedora 11.
I'm behind a proxy, and I followed the steps outlined at [url] to fix the initial repository error.

I am running Suse 11.1 64bit, with KDE, recently I received a pop up on my screen, "something about update problems", I used Yast 2 and selected online Update and it couldn't find updates for Nvidia and froze at that point. I dis-enabled that repository and refreshed all of the remaining Repositories individually and it seemed to work. I then went to the repositories listing and selected "Add" and selected "community" repositories and received the following: WARNING Unable to download list of repositories or no repositories defined. What is my problem? How do I acquire the list of community repositories? I can live with out the Nvidia repository for now but would eventually like to get it back.

Now I can, for example, yum install wine, but yum install unrar fails totally (not found), and yum install mc (midnight commander) shows error, where I can copy address or rpm, and make localinstall then.
I've tried to install FEdora 15 using the Fedora 15 DVD for i686 architecture. However, after the step where I chose the setup for GRUB boot options, I got this error: "Some of your repositories require network access but networking could not be setup" (or something similar). Then I only had the option to exit the installer, but after reboot there was no GRUB and I have no means even to boot back to Windows.
How to install Fedora without networking or is Fedora the only distro so messed up that this can't be done? I've tried the Live CD/USB version but that version has no C compiler to allow me to install networking drivers after install completes. Now I was told to try the full DVD, by the full DVD managed to mess up my computer completely.

Click Next.
I receive an error, "Unable to download list of Repositories or no repositories defined."
in the /etc/YaST2/control.xml the external repository is:download.opensuse.org/YaST/Repos/openSUSE_111_Servers.xml
After install I tried to add firefox but it wasn't found in any of the repositories. I thought it was supposed to be in there. Thunderbird also wasn't. What repositories do you guys add after install?

View 3 Replies View RelatedOn Package repositories - openSUSE quite a few useful repositories are listed, however, only for SuSE 11.1 and upwards. Is there a way to access the same repositories for 11.0? (E.g. Contrib, KDE:KDE3 etc.) I remember that in Ubuntu the repositories for outdated versions had been simply moved to a slower server but I could use them just the same even when my version was a few years old. It would be good to have this for OpenSuSE as well. (Especially that the version I'm working on is on my machine at work, so I cannot just upgrade it.)

I've had ubuntu before, and several usb live versions...but I really wanted to learn how linux works, and it was suggested I get debian. I've been unable to get anything accomplished, other than the basic install. Can't get gnome, or xwindows. Seems to me like I need more repositories. Need a Desktop! But mostly, I guess, I need a browser so I can hook up to here!

I tried to get Xterm. Went su, then apt-get install xterm...it's able to 'read' everything, but then no matter *what* I try to install, I get this same answer : E: Unable to locate package xterm

I downloaded Ubuntu last year and was mightily impressed. I'm not really a techy kinda person, but ubuntu was pretty straightforward to install and set up the packages and stuff like soulseek. however since then i moved to thailand and now I live in Myanmar and Thailand...my problem is that although the internet still works, everything else like updates, Synaptic, IRC, Soulseek don't work anymore...i've lived with it for 6 months, but now it's becoming a problem because i would like to download some more software...is there a simple solution to this or does ubuntu simply not cover these areas?

Does Yast2 use a port other than port 80 to connect to the repositories? I have not updated the firewall since using Yast last. Have the repository servers been updated since the release of 11.3, to make some editing of the repositories in Yast necessary?

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo, I've been using Ubuntu (currently 10.04 lucid) for a while now and have added several repositories to my software sources before with never a problem, but now when I try to add a new repository the 'add source' button won't highlight and I am unable to add the repository. Does anyone have any idea why this might be because it is severely irritating me right now and I really don't want to have to completely reinstall Ubuntu to fix this.

I just installed 11.04 and found that the debugger gui, kdbg, is no longer in the repositories. I have all repos enabled except backports. I also tried to find any information about the fate of kdbg, whether it is just not yet packaged for 11.04, or whether it is discontinued, but to no avail.
If it is being discontinued, I'll probably roll my own .deb package and post it somewhere - kdbg is too good to drop, I think. And while we are at it?

View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter I upgraded from KDE 4.5 to KDE 4.6 I ran into a problem with changing the the status of different repoes from enabled to disabled, and vice versa. As I only did a desktop upgrade it is perhaps just a coincidence and hence the problem may be related to something different. But in any case, if I tick or untick the 'enable' or 'disable' option within the Yast module Software Repositories for the repo I wish to activate or deactivate, nothing happens. Deleting and readding the repoes has no effect, neither has rebuilding the rpm db or zypper refresh. I'm not very familiar with the command-line for these operations so I am grateful if anyone could give me a hint on what to try next.

After installing 11.3 I find I cannot add the community repositories, such as Nvidia, Packman, etc. It attempts to download the repository list but gives the following error message : Unable to download list of repositories or no repositories defined. I've used this DVD before and it installed perfectly. I then tried installing 11.3 from a network cd but got the same error when trying to add a repository. At this point I don't know what to do. Joe
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just re-installed Ubuntu 10.04. -The installation went smoothly, completing in approximately 25-30 minutes. All of my hardware, including keyboard, mouse, monitor and network interface has been detected and works properly. I am currently using the machine to type this. I can browse the web using Mozilla Firefox. My network connection does not start and stop; the machine remains connected with no indication that there is a fault with the NIC, and so on. I am able to download files at 150-170kB/s as is normal for me with Firefox.
I have not yet installed a graphical user interface to configure the firewall. I have not in any way worked with any system files. I am using the same hardware that I have used for approximately one year before this with no incident. I first encountered this with my previous install at approximately 3:00 AM (local time,) when I manually started Update Manager and attempted to check for updates in the default repositories. I have not altered the repository list in either the previous install or this new install. The Update Manager is entirely default.
Upon checking for updates, the list of repositories hangs after I believe at least ten lists have been checked. All of the lists checked before this hangup read "0 B" in the downloaded section of the window. It appears that upon checking for updates, no actual data is transferred to my computer. Again, after going through several of the default repo lists, the entire process halts. A wait of approximately ten minutes still reads that the process has not continued. -During this time I am able to browse the web using Firefox, and the OS seems to be responsive and otherwise functional. There is not a slow response from the keyboard or mouse, there are also no graphics glitches. Again, this problem first occurred with my previous install of Ubuntu 10.04, which was up-to-date as of approximately midnight last night. I have reinstalled the OS and the problem persists. The symptoms of this problem are consistent between my previous install and the reinstall.
I am using F10 desktop edition, all the computers using windows are able to access the shared folders over lan except me using F10. I have tried many things with smb but still unable to connect.I am new to linux so i dont khow much of its technicalities.kindly suggest how can i be able to access the shared documents ..

i've just upgraded to Natty, and there are lots of 3rd party software sources that were disabled during the upgrade, and i've enabled them again. But then when i try to refresh my update cache, they fail to download. these are the list of software sources that fail to download:
