I cannot update my SLED 11 because I have the next error message about a half of my software sources:
I checked if software repository is correct - yes, it is. For example (just one of many):

On Package repositories - openSUSE quite a few useful repositories are listed, however, only for SuSE 11.1 and upwards. Is there a way to access the same repositories for 11.0? (E.g. Contrib, KDE:KDE3 etc.) I remember that in Ubuntu the repositories for outdated versions had been simply moved to a slower server but I could use them just the same even when my version was a few years old. It would be good to have this for OpenSuSE as well. (Especially that the version I'm working on is on my machine at work, so I cannot just upgrade it.)

Trying to use Yast2, and it gives errors: " can't access installation media [url] " and this is with all the repositories that used to work fine. Not sure what it could be? I tried to use a mirror, and I got the same results.
Does Yast2 use a port other than port 80 to connect to the repositories? I have not updated the firewall since using Yast last. Have the repository servers been updated since the release of 11.3, to make some editing of the repositories in Yast necessary?

I recently installed 11.4 32bit on my computer at my summer home. I carry a DVD with all my /home data. Then today I noticed that all my repositories are labeled "11.3" repositories. Everything works. Here is the output from "zypper lr -d"...
# | Alias | Name | Enabled | Refresh | Priority | Type | URI | Service
[Code]....
What is the correct method of moving to the 11.4 repositories?

I've tried to install FEdora 15 using the Fedora 15 DVD for i686 architecture. However, after the step where I chose the setup for GRUB boot options, I got this error: "Some of your repositories require network access but networking could not be setup" (or something similar). Then I only had the option to exit the installer, but after reboot there was no GRUB and I have no means even to boot back to Windows.
How to install Fedora without networking or is Fedora the only distro so messed up that this can't be done? I've tried the Live CD/USB version but that version has no C compiler to allow me to install networking drivers after install completes. Now I was told to try the full DVD, by the full DVD managed to mess up my computer completely.

I decided to try Debian 5.0.4. I download from debian site CD1 iso image wich is enough to install Debian. After installing Debian my /etc/apt/source.list looks: # deb cdrom: Debian GNU/Linux 5.0.4 _Lenny_ - Official i386 CD Binary-1 20100131-18:53]/ lenny main
deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 5.0.4 _Lenny_ - Official i386 CD Binary-1 20100131-18:53]/ lenny main
deb http://security.debian.org/ lenny/updates main deb-src http://security.debian.org/ lenny/updates main deb http://volatile.debian.org/debian-volatile lenny/volatile main deb-src http://volatile.debian.org/debian-volatile lenny/volatile main
Then I try to install Synaptic. I enter apt-get install synaptic and get error because this package is in some other debian cd. There are 30 CDs with packages. I can not download all 30 CDs. Is there a way to change /etc/apt/source.list file so it can be posible to download some package cointed in some of 30CDs from some offical debian web repository and not from cd-rom media.

I've got a dual-booting system with Windows 7 and Opensuse 11.2. I had a few other random kernels so I edited /boot/grub/menu.lst to remove them. This was fine after a reboot, then I went to YaST and changed the default boot partition to Windows, because I had edited the MBR and put Windows above the other boot partitions, YaST changed "default" to 0.
Now after a restart the Boot Loader doesn't appear, I just have a flashing cursor. When I try to boot from an OpenSuse installation disc and try repair the Repair Kernel loads but freezes on the OpenSuse splash screen. I've heard this is due to the fact I have an ATI Radeon card, if I hold shift during the CD load to prevent the graphical interface of the CD loading. I can type to boot "rescue" but it freezes on "starting udev...". Essentially I just need to be able to edit menu.lst back to the backup I made or change the "default" value back to 1.

Used to run Gentoo, years ago, getting back on the linux train. Anyways, got a new media pc and am having some troubles getting it to function. I am using ImageWriter, an OCZ Rally 4gb flash drive and have tried both HTTP and BitTorrent downloaded copies of 11.3 with the same md5sum check wrong error. What am I doing wrong? Is it because it thinks it is a CD or am I getting bad copies of the ISO? I am so out of practice I can't remember anything about installation anymore and am at a loss.

I finally got Amarok and other media players working with the local mp3 files. However, I keep my files on a server. This setup works fine for Windows so it hasn't been a problem until now. The server is Ubuntu and I share the files using SAMBA. I know (very little) about NFS but I need SAMBA for the Windows clients so there is no NFS setup.I can see the SAMBA shares in Konqueror but I cannot open SAMBA shares with Amarok, XMMS, or anything else. I think I need to mount the SAMBA shares on OpenSUSE (11.2) to access them with Amarok, etc. I would then include these shares in the fstab file on my OpenSUSE box to include them at boot. Is this correct?

I am running Suse 11.1 64bit, with KDE, recently I received a pop up on my screen, "something about update problems", I used Yast 2 and selected online Update and it couldn't find updates for Nvidia and froze at that point. I dis-enabled that repository and refreshed all of the remaining Repositories individually and it seemed to work. I then went to the repositories listing and selected "Add" and selected "community" repositories and received the following: WARNING Unable to download list of repositories or no repositories defined. What is my problem? How do I acquire the list of community repositories? I can live with out the Nvidia repository for now but would eventually like to get it back.

My repositories ended up with so many entries. Do you know which of them it could be better to remove?
How do you finally understand which repositories should be existing in your system and which not?

About 2 years ago I installed SUSE10.3 over the internet. Now the older repositories seem to have disappeared completely and I can't install any new software or little tools that I have missed. Is there any way to find 10.3 repositories somewhere or do I need to make a completely new installation every year?

I upgraded my system from 11.1 to 11.2, unfortunately after the upgrade there were no repositories set up. My notebook already has 11.2 on it, so I just copied the addresses from there and tried to update. Everytime I try zypper up, or from yast online-update. I wait for 10 min, and get an timeout error.

In this blog post I explain how to use "Install/Remove Software" to configure your repositories, which repositories you'll want to add, how to configure their priority, and updating your system with the correct versions.
Musing Allowed: OpenSUSE 11.4: Repositories
I may eventually transfer some of this to the opensuse website, but I never expected it to take several days just to write this one blog post so it probably won't be soon. Still, I hope that it's helpful to opensuse 11.4 users and I wrote the post so that it was targeted to regular users primarily but also for those looking to see how the repositories have changed with the update to 11.4.

done 11.4 update from DVD on my two laptops and I'm trying to do my home machine now.Problem is that the DVD update does not find any repos. I told the update system to set up wired network using DHCP and everything seems OK, when I check the box to use separate media during installation the system won't find any community repositories and when I specify URL it simlply won't connect to the repo. As for as I can tell there is a connection to the internet, but maybe not

I have contacted Novell by telephone and they can' support the OpenSUSE OS.I'm downloading via a library (window's XP) computer and it does not download every thing I tell it to; so I have to often go back and some times I am sure I don't go back because I don't notice or can't figure out that I'm missing something. Also when I try to download any part of the repositories I have to (to bring it home and install it on my computer openSUSE 11.4 KDE,) sit there and click right, click open in new tab, go to the next one repeat.... and then once you reach the bottom of the screen you minimize the web page, and then click save, then tell it where to save, then go to the next one.......
1: put each and every repositories into a bunch of .tarbz2 (or any other achiving method,) files (700 MB would be greate,) so I can bring them home easier; reassembling the achives is mutch easier ten not downloading what I need and it takes mutch less time.
2: send me an E-mail doark@mail.com detailing how to tell your machine: 2A: it's a sever 2b: it's serving X and X infomation 2c: when someone types in lets say "free software" my website is in the choises (in other word advertizing,) and 2d: where to send the money it gets from someone logging on to my web page.

Today I was trying to install the Bespin window theme for KDE. To compile Bespin I need a few packages that I do not have installed. I googled and looked around for a few hours but I'm not sure which repo they are in. The packs are called kdebase-dev, kdelibs5-dev, libplasma-dev, kdebase-workspace-dev. How can I find these packeges?

I am new to OPEN SUSE. I installed 11.4 without any problems. It is working fine. I did Multimedia install with oneclick option. All the updates were done. Today while going thru forums FAQ, I saw repositories list and their priorities. When I checked my repositories in YAST, there was no PACKMAN so added the PACKMAN repository. I noticed in Software Manager there is Upgrades OpenSuse-release 11.4-1.8 - 11.4-1.9! What does this mean?

I did zypper dup to move from 11.3 to 11.4. Almost everything works fine. But when I try to add community repositories I get the 11.3 repositories, not the 11.4 repositories. So there must be a .conf or .rc file somewhere telling yast that we're on 11.3 when in fact we are on 11.4. How/where can I change that? And while we're at it, how do I load a Factory repository? They do not appear in the list of Community" repositories.

After I upgraded from KDE 4.5 to KDE 4.6 I ran into a problem with changing the the status of different repoes from enabled to disabled, and vice versa. As I only did a desktop upgrade it is perhaps just a coincidence and hence the problem may be related to something different. But in any case, if I tick or untick the 'enable' or 'disable' option within the Yast module Software Repositories for the repo I wish to activate or deactivate, nothing happens. Deleting and readding the repoes has no effect, neither has rebuilding the rpm db or zypper refresh. I'm not very familiar with the command-line for these operations so I am grateful if anyone could give me a hint on what to try next.

After testing Opensuse 11.4 since it was released, I decided to go back to version 11.3. After installing 11.3 I find I cannot add the community repositories, such as Nvidia, Packman, etc. It attempts to download the repository list but gives the following error message : Unable to download list of repositories or no repositories defined. I've used this DVD before and it installed perfectly. I then tried installing 11.3 from a network cd but got the same error when trying to add a repository. At this point I don't know what to do. Joe

The red updater icon alerted me to about a dozen patches, which started to install, then halted with an error: Download failure from download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.2/repo/non-oss. When I try to update repositories, the same error recurs for that repo and also for .../oss and download.opensuse.org/update/11.2/,
If I attempt to "register for support to get update repository," clicking on Configure Now and Next produces the same three error messages: "Failed to download", one for each repository. The screen then returns to Registration, with another error message "an error occurred while connecting to the server". Clicking on the Detail button show exactly "ERROR:"
This AMD desktop machine with this install of 11.2 has updated many times in the last few weeks. Has something changed? The update servers do respond to a ping, so they are up and apparently I have connectivity.
