Ubuntu Installation :: Unable To Download 3rd Party Repositories After Upgrade To Natty

Apr 18, 2011

i've just upgraded to Natty, and there are lots of 3rd party software sources that were disabled during the upgrade, and i've enabled them again. But then when i try to refresh my update cache, they fail to download. these are the list of software sources that fail to download:

W:Failed to fetch http://linux.dropbox.com/ubuntu/dist...amd64/Packages 404 Not Found
, W:Failed to fetch http://download.virtualbox.org/virtu...amd64/Packages 404 Not found
, W:Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/alecive/ant...source/Sources 404 Not Found

[code]....

and now most of these softwares appear in my 'computer janitor' to be removed (which obviously i wouldn't want that..

Ubuntu Installation :: Natty Upgrade - Failed To Fetch Repositories

May 7, 2011

I upgraded to natty on release day and everything went fine, but about three days ago when I went to update my sources, I get this:
Code:
sudo apt-get update
Code:
W: Failed to fetch [URL] Sources 404 Not Found
W: Failed to fetch [URL] Packages 404 Not Found
E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

I've looked through the forums, but similar problems are always tied to the mozilla repo, not this one. It seems important, so I'm not sure if I should just delete it or what. My sources.list looks like this:
Code:
# deb cdrom:[Ubuntu 10.10 _Maverick Meerkat_ - Release i386 (20101007)]/ maverick main restricted
# See [URL] for how to upgrade to newer versions of the distribution.
deb [URL] natty main restricted
deb-src [URL] natty main restricted

OpenSUSE :: WARNING - Unable To Download List Of Repositories Or No Repositories Defined

Feb 9, 2011

I am running Suse 11.1 64bit, with KDE, recently I received a pop up on my screen, "something about update problems", I used Yast 2 and selected online Update and it couldn't find updates for Nvidia and froze at that point. I dis-enabled that repository and refreshed all of the remaining Repositories individually and it seemed to work. I then went to the repositories listing and selected "Add" and selected "community" repositories and received the following: WARNING Unable to download list of repositories or no repositories defined. What is my problem? How do I acquire the list of community repositories? I can live with out the Nvidia repository for now but would eventually like to get it back.

Ubuntu Installation :: Updating The Repositories To Natty (11.04)

Aug 14, 2011

After my system was updated to Natty, even though Software Sources is set for LTS updates only, none of the repositories in Software Sources or /etc/apt/sources.list.d were updated. I have manually updated the Software Sources repositories, and removed the outdated repositories from /etc/apt/sources.list.d, but when I do apt-get update I still see references to previous Ubuntu versions. How do I update ALL the repositories?

OpenSUSE Install :: Unable To Download List Of Repositories

Apr 29, 2011

After testing Opensuse 11.4 since it was released, I decided to go back to version 11.3. After installing 11.3 I find I cannot add the community repositories, such as Nvidia, Packman, etc. It attempts to download the repository list but gives the following error message : Unable to download list of repositories or no repositories defined. I've used this DVD before and it installed perfectly. I then tried installing 11.3 from a network cd but got the same error when trying to add a repository. At this point I don't know what to do. Debian Installation :: Can't Download Files From Any Repositories / Sort It?

Apr 29, 2011

I am still having trouble installing Debian 6.0.1a (Squeeze) from either CD #1 (KDE version) or netinst version. I tried for a few months to install Squeeze with KDE desktop; now I am trying to build a server, which seems easier (no X.org and KDE problems to worry about.)

Part of the problem common to all my failed attempts (about a dozen!) seems to be that the installer tries to get packages or updates/upgrades from repos but for some reason fails.

I have a commercial all-in-one dslmodem/router/firewall which has very, very limited monitoring capabalities, just enough to show that the PC in question contacted the expected repos (I tried several in different regions) and also shows that no DNS requests failed during that time frame. I did try decreasing the security of the commercial firewall, but that seems to make no difference. I did try to save the install logs, but they didn't fit on a floppy. Any idea what could be going wrong?

Debian :: Unable To Download All The Update In One Go And To Complete The Upgrade?

Jul 16, 2010

My internet connectivity is not that fast. Since I am using Squeeze, there will be very frequent updates.

My problem is that I am not able to download all the update in one go and to complete the upgrade. As the number of files to be downloaded and upgraded increases, I can't seem to be able to reach the end point to complete any update.

Can aptitude upgrade just the files that have been downloaded so far, and resume downloading the rest in the next attempt? MS Windows will update the OS with whatever patches downloaded without waiting for the rest if I prematurely shutdown the pc.

Ubuntu Installation :: (some) Colors Shifted After Natty Upgrade?

Apr 29, 2011

I just upgraded to Natty and some images display shifted colors, e.g. bright purple instead of yellow and bright green instead of whatever there used to be. Some images also show properly. I attached a screenshot of a bit of Thunderbird where the bug is visible. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong, or how to diagnose the problem properly? EDIT: and, to make this even more interesting, the attachment I made to the forum displays even more ridiculously once it has been attached - I'm attaching a screenshot of that, too. (although right now I have no idea what it looks like on a working machine)

EDIT2: To reiterate the problem: apparently, Firefox and Thunderbird rotate colors in indexed images for some reason. I am trying to find a way to fix this, with no luck so far.

Ubuntu Installation :: No Grub Menu After Natty Upgrade

May 4, 2011

I upgraded to Natty yesterday and my system boots into it ok but I don't get a grub menu (and so no other options like recovery mode which I really need right now). I tried purging grub and re-installing it on /dev/sda but still no joy. Here's the info from the Boot Info Script. I've also tried uncommenting GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480 in /etc/default/grub but that doesn't help. How I can get the menu back?

Code:

Ubuntu Installation :: Natty Upgrade - LVM Grub (No Such Disk)

May 5, 2011

I've had this problem on a couple of Ubuntu server upgrades and am keen to get to the bottom of it. Basically, with an Ubuntu 10.10 server installtion where LVM has been used, running through the do-release-upgrade process works perfectly until the reboot stage. Then grub complains with "no such disk" and dumps me out to the grub shell. From here, I can see (from ls) the following:

Code:
(hostname-swap_1) (hostname-root) (hd0) (hd0,5) (hd0,1) (fd0)
I can enumerate the filesystem on (hd0,1) which seems to contain the /boot filesystem and the filesystem on (hostname-root) seems to contain the / filesystem.

If I execute:
Code:
linux=(hd0,1)/vmlinuz-image-2.6.38-8-server root=(hostname-root)
initrd=(hd0,1)/initrd.img-2.6.38-8-server
boot
It boots, but into busybox saying that the target filesystem doesn't have requested /sbin/init.
