CentOS 5 :: Package In YUM Now That Automatically Updates Amavisd-new To Version 2.6.4?

Apr 22, 2010

Is there a package in YUM now that automatically updates amavisd-new to version 2.6.4??? My VM comes stock with version 2.5.4 and i absolutely CANNOT update it to 2.6.4 due to incompatibility issues in Maia Mailguard. When I do the package upgrade I don't understand but i specifically do NOT choose amavisd-new to be updated and everytime I check to see my latest version it is at version 2.6.4 I don't get it am I missing something? What can be causing my package to always get upgraded to the new version when I am not upgrading it.

I have spamassassin 3.3.1
clamav 0.96
postfix 2.3.3

CentOS 5 Server :: Amavisd Not Detecting Viruses?

Feb 8, 2010

I have postfix setup with amavisd and I tried to send myself an email with the eicar file however it lets the email go through to my inbox. When I restart the amavisd service, there are no errors in the log and it finds all the decoders for different file types and I also see this come up:

Feb 8 14:45:44 Mailgate amavis[3116]: Using primary internal av scanner code for ClamAV-clamd
Feb 8 14:45:44 Mailgate amavis[3116]: Found secondary av scanner ClamAV-clamscan at /usr/bin/clamscan

Everything seems to work but it doesn't scan the file for viruses. Also, I've double and triple checked and my amavisd.conf file doesn't have the option enabled to bypass virus scanning.

CentOS 5 Server :: Spamassassin - Amavisd Not Catching Spam

Jul 21, 2010

I followed this how to document [URL] to install postfix, Amavisd, SpamAssassin and ClamAV. My postfix installation is working fine and I can send and receive emails fine. However, it looks like SpamAssassin is not catching any emails. Emails do get passed over to Amavisd as I can see in the logs but ALL Messages comes out CLEAN without being tagged as spam.

As per the document, I did test by sending a test virus email

sendmail -i your-address@example.com < sample-virus-simple.txt.

This is caught and NOT let through so ClamAV is ok but when i send

sendmail -i your-address@example.com < sample-spam-GTUBE-junk.txt

it does get delievered without being detected as SPAM or tagged as SPAM.

As I said, I have followed the documentation dot by dot and hence do not have spamassassin starting up as a service but i guess amavisd starts it within itself as a module.

Also, my postfix version is the one that supports mysql virtual tables which I got from rpmforge.

Programming :: RPM: Package Requires Old Version Of Same Package?

Nov 22, 2010

I'm building a certain RPM package that must require an old version of that same package in order to be installed/upgraded. Is this possible?

For example:

For a package foo v5, somewhere in the spec file:
"Requires: foo >= 4"

I'm declaring this on the Requires tag of the spec file, but when I try to install or upgrade the package (without having the previous required version installed) I get no dependency error! As for other dependencies it all works fine. If, instead, I create a package named "bar" that "Requires: foo >= 4", when installing I do get the expected dependency error. I'm thinking it's not possible to require an old version of the same package.

Although this may be right, I wonder if there is an online reference where I can check the updates that are released for CentOS (security bulletins) and make sure if there is anything wrong with my update system.

Ubuntu :: Get The "package Maintainer's Version" Of Grub (chose Local Version!)

Jul 23, 2010

I chose the local version of grub when prompted on the last update. However, after doing a bit of reading, it looks like I should have selected the "package maintainer's version" .

I've looked at the release notes [URL] related to grub and changing the menu.lst. However, when I open the menu.lst per the instructions, it is blank (the file opens but there is no text in it). I also ran the sudo update-grub command but was never prompted to choose a the local version or maintainer's version.

Is there a way to go back and get back to the prompt to select the ""package maintainer's version"?

Ubuntu :: Server Was Set To Automatically Install Updates, And Stopped Working While Was Away?

Jul 1, 2011

My server was set to automatically install updates, and stopped working while I was away. When I got back to it, it now has a boot menu to choose between kernel versions, with no default or timer. So I pick one, and there are heaps of other problems. the /home partition isn't mounting, despite the fstab being unchanged. I can mount it manually using mount with no problems /var/syslog has nothing since April, and isn't updating when I reboot, so I'm not sure what I can cut and paste to here for you all to look at. The networking isn't running, in fact, most of the network interfaces aren't even showing up.That's just what I've identified so far. I have no idea where to start. I can't find anything wrong other than the fact it's not working.I can't copy and paste any output at this point, because I can't ssh,

General :: Puppy - Updates Him Selves To A New Version Automaticly?

Aug 26, 2010

im still a newbie but after long weeks discovering the best distro for my laptop and the my DWA-140 usb stick. i get a try with puppy. so far it's working stable but a lot of differences with the another "normal" distros. like fedora, suse, ubuntu etc. this one installs him self as a live boot cd to you HD. it's not possible to create more users.

another points but not important. my main question it's like the another distros Lucid puppy updates him selvs automatically to a newer version? just a quick point who has a D-LINK DWA 140 just need to get the windows .inf file from XP and use it to install with the software repo for windows inf files. that cames with puppy.

has the another distros also this utility tool? in the last puppy is a very stable and very very very easy to use distro from linux that use as base ubuntu!

Ubuntu :: Cannot Boot After Package Updates

Dec 4, 2010

I am having a dual boot with Windows 7 OS(64 bit) and Ubuntu 10.10. I installed Ubuntu through Wubi installer from my Windows 7. Usually when I start my computer it first shows my Windows Boot Manager screen. It shows a menu with 2 options Windows 7 and Ubuntu. For getting into Windows 7 I need to choose the first option. For booting into Ubuntu I need to choose the 2nd option i.e Ubuntu. And then it would show me a Grub boot menu with the options being different kernel versions and recovery modes etc. The latest I had was some 2.6.26 version.

I recently did a package update with update-manager. After the update I am not able to boot into Ubuntu. After the Windows boot manager screen it takes me to a screen that says something like

Try (hd0, 0): NTFS5: No wubuildr
Try (hd0, 1): NTFS5: No wubuildr
Try (hd0, 2): NTFS5:

After this the screen turns into full white and then it automatically reboots! It doesn't take me to the Grub menu! It happens quite fast that to even read the above 3 lines it took to try booting a number of times!

One thing I noticed in the package update was that grub was one of the updated packages. Another thing is that in my Windows 7 in c: directory there is a file called wubuildr whose creation time is almost the same time as when the package update happened. There is also a wubuildr.mbr but it's creation and last modification times are much older. But then I am clueless as to what is the purpose of the file and so I am not sure how to use it to fix this problem if possible.

Also through ext2explore program from Windows 7 I could copy the /boot/grub/grub.cfg and /var/log/dpkg.log files. I have attached grub.cfg and dpkg.log with .txt extensions. In the dpkg.log file that I attached I just removed all lines except those containing "upgrade" so that it wouldn't be too long a file and you can easily see just what packages were upgraded.
