Debian :: Wireless Gets Disconnected Right When It Tells Me To Choose My Method Of Connecting To The Net And Installation
May 6, 2011
Unfortunately, when I try to install Debian off the DVD, the wireless gets disconnected right when it tells me to choose my method of connecting to the net. It then gives me three choices of connecting - wired, unknown, and wireless. I must be missing something, because when I choose wireless, it says it fails, and cannot find anything to connect to. I input the SSID and password manually and it says its not there. So I quit the install and go back to the desktop and reconnect no problems.
I wanna see the wifi signal strength. But when i run the command iwconfig , it tells me 'no wireless extensions'.By googling I found that I need to enable config option CONFIG_NET_RADIO.I see that this has to be done in boot which has config files. So I typed the command grep CONFIG_NET_RADIO /boot/<config-2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686> (my fedora version is 2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686).But I got the error as "bash: syntax error near unexpected token `newline' ".I dont know the reason.I also want to know if I have to install driver(ndiswrapper)for viewing wireless signal strength.I thought that the drivers will present default(am not sure).
i have limited experience with Ubuntu and Linux for that matter. i know my way around for the most part but i come from windows. anyway. i have 6 dell gx260 computers. i also have a netgear 8 port Ethernet switch. now im just trying to get the computers to see each other. simple for me in windows. but i have no idea where to start here. it just says connecting to eth0 then network disconnected. and thats it. for now im just working with 2 of the computers. the others are not set up yet. i have been googling for 3 days and got nothing that helps. (my goal after they see each other is to share files back and forth. and also to have one of them control the others with some type of remote desktop. but thats for another day.)
I am getting trouble with knetwork manager. I created a new connection by scanning and connecting using knetwork manager. But every time connection gets disconnected and ask for password and again it connects.
Some thing quite bad happened to me , i installed debian jessie about 2 month ago. Today I wanted to try what a gnu/linux is like so I installed dragora 2.2 on one of my free partitions , (sda 1 is my debian root , sda2 is my debian home, I had sda4 which nothing was on it so i installed dragora on it. But something bad happened , during boot time you get this page which asks you what distro you want to enter in past I had just one choice and it was debian jessie, I expected after installing dragora I will see 2 distros on this page, but i get just 1 , and that's dragora ... but maybe i should mention this that when entering dragora i can access all my previous files , debian systemfile , debian home , they are still there but i can't enter debian jessie ...
I need to be able to log into (with X enabled) my home computer (running OpenSuse 11.4) from my work computer(running Windows XP). I was originally going to setup ssh on my home computer but then realized that I wouldn't be able to get my desktop this way.At work, we use windows remote desktop connection to log into other computers within our network, but I'm planning on asking my manager if I'm allowed to login to my home computer. If he accepts, I need a method to actually make it happen.I looked at FreeNX which seemed awesome but it doesn't seem to have windows support. To an extent that I would like to only allow my work IP to be allowed to even try an login. The bridge to cross here is the fact that I'm connecting from windows.
I downloaded one of the businesscard isos and booted up, but have run into the problem that my usb keyboard is dead in the installer. It works in setting up my bios, and has always worked before, but I cannot choose any items on the installation menu. I found a bug report that seems to be this issue, but it said that this would be fixed when debian moves to the 2.6.32 kernel on the installer.
Im actually using Fedora 11 in Dual Boot with VistaI used to have Fedora 11 and then I installed Ubuntu and it (and myself) screwed my partitioning, and Just linux used to run.Ubuntu wrote the boot sector over the NTFS like it was ext3.I tryed everything the get beck my windows partition booting.Reinstalled a Fedora 11 clean, to see if it could help me (thinking in reintstall it later).Using testdisk application I managed to have back access to my disks files, but no boot working. I tryed a lot of things in testdisk and Windows Vista Recorvery, with no work.
So I ran the Acer Recorvery Disks, that reseted my NTFS with Vista to a brand new installation from Acer. Now I want a Full Fresh Fedora Install from DVD but anaconda tells me (in pt-br): "Error in processing the disk sda. Maybe it would be necessary to reinitialize. YOU WILL LOOSE AL THE DATA IN THIS DISK."I really cannot reinitalize it becouse my NB have some recorvery partitions that I use to reinstall the windows to its factory settings, and Im scared of reinitalizing it becouse maybe it could just screw everything and make it not work as well, now with no OS running. The GNOME Partitioning Software just detect a full unpartitioned hard drive. I think the problem is that I changed the LVM to something wierd that anaconda dosent recognizes. Some hardware information (my fedora is in PT-BR):Quote:
My wireless is 'almost' working, but frustratingly not quite there. Debian Testing (squeeze). I have two different wireless adapters. Both work flawlessly from an ubuntu live CD in the same machine, connecting to the same unencrypted access point so the problem is not faulty hardware, weak signal, overpowering signal, interference from other AP's, MAC filtering, or anything to do with WPA.
I have loaded the correct (I think) firmware packages for both adapters. dmesg is not complaining about missing or incompatible firmware. I have googled the various error messages reported in dmesg and found that the /etc/Wireless/RT2860STA/RT2860STA.dat missing config file is normal. I could not find anything that I understood concerning the BSS returned, data->length messages but since I see the same thing in Ubuntu (where the wireless is working flawlessly) I assume they are also normal and not related to the problem.
Both adapters can see all the available access points (using iwlist {iface} scan or using gui tools such as wicd, wifi-radar) NEITHER adapter will associate with any access point (and I've tried three different unencrypted AP's so far). I can connect to all/any of these AP's from an ubuntu live CD using the exact same hardware, so this is NOTHING to do with MAC filtering, etc... using 'iwconfig {iface} essid' as root to set the essid "appears" to work, but simple does not set the ESSID on either wireless adapter.
Using the GUI tools (which are only a front end for the command line tools so I have no idea why everyone thinks a GUI front end like wicd will magically work where the command line tools don't!!) I simply wait a long time for "getting network address" before it eventually fails. LOTS of information in pastebin, please make the effort to read it before asking me for things I have already supplied. And please keep any "RTFM noob" or "go back to ubuntu" replies to yourself. I HAVE read the f*cking documentation and I do not want to go back to ubuntu. I just want to get my wireless working in debian.
I'm trying to install Debian Jessie beta2 on a UEFI laptop. The installation worked just fine before with setting in manual partitioning an EFI system partition and a root partition. But when I try to partition with root as an encrypted volume I get this error when I wanna write changes to disk:" the attempt to mount a file system with type vfat in scsi1 partition sda at /boot/efi failed"When I choose resume partitioning the installer then freezes at "detect file systems".
Because my harddrive needs specific alignment I've made beforehand in gdisk:EFI System Partition of 100mib at /dev/sda1/boot partition of 512mib at /dev/sda2/ (because I expect the installer to want a /boot too for an encrypted device)rest of harddrive reserved for root at /dev/sda3
I am currently using Debian Testing, managing my wireless connection with NetworkManager and the Gnome nm-applet. Both have just been updated: network-manager from 0.8.1-6+squeeze1 to 0.8.2-6 and network-manager-gnome from 0.8.1-2 to 0.8.2-4.On installation of the new packages, I have no problems. However, on a reboot, I can no-longer connect to any wireless connection. I am not prompted on start-up for the password to unlock the Gnome keyring and when I left-click on the nm-applet icon and then click on a network to connect to it, nothing happens.I do not think this is a driver or NetworkManager daemon problem. If I run "nmcli dev wifi" or left-click on the applet icon, NetworkManager seems to scan for wireless networks properly and returns a list including the one I wish to connect to.
Basically I had windows 8.1 running on my fujitsu lifebook A532 laptop and wanted to dual boot kali linux alongside it, however upon installing the linux it deleted EVERYTHING! on my laptop, the grub bootloader only showed kali linux to choose from...
I then decided kali linux is too complicated for me and decided to delete everything and reinstall windows 8 again however I was surprised that my bios screen looks diffrent also I can not edit the boot sequence.
If I press f2 or f12 it takes me to a screen with a tab named Boot menu and its written on it debian and every time I press enter on it it takes me back to this same screen...
I was running an update on my computer (running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid) and something must have been transferred incorrectly as every time I open synaptic, I get an error message that tells me to type a command into the terminal:
Code: sudo dpkg --configure -a After doing that, it displays this:
currently using Ubuntu 10.10 and I have a problem with my wireless internet connection, which often gets disconnected and then re-connected automaticallyonce in every few minutes. This is really annoying
I want to install Xubuntu 10.10 x64, but it does not work. While copying data the setup tells me about an Input/Output error, but i don't think there are hardware errors.
The environment:
AMD Phenom II 1055t 6x2,8 Ghz 2x 2gb ram Hitachi 1TB hard drive Two partitions: 1st for Windows 7 Ultimate (NTFS), 2nd for my Data (NTFS)
So I decreased the size of the data partition and created two new partitions beside the Win7 partition and the data partition. The first is ext4-journal (20gb) the second is Swap (4gb). I've done that all by the Xubuntu setup.
I've downloaded the image from the german mirror (TU Chemniz) and checked the integrety via SHA1. Checksum was correct. I also checked the data after burning.
I've fully updated F11 running on my laptop. I've BCM4312 in my machine. The issue is that the wireless connection gets disconnected so often that it's irritating my like hell.
I'm having problems with my Internet. I just recently downloaded 10.04 (went from 8.04) and now I can't get online! I could yesterday! I don't have access to the router, but the internet works great on all my Windows computers. On my panel it show's my wireless connection bars with an exclamation mark and says disconnected. I don't know what to do! It's a Toshiba Satellite computer.
Also, I can't update anything, or install anything because I don't have direct access to the router. I know there is a lot of information about this problem already, but everything I've seen needs me to download new drivers. If you know how to do it from one computer to another I can do that. I'm just not very techy.
This morning I connected to internet, using the 'hidden network' feature of Ubuntu, like I always do. In the beginning it worked well, but after a while, while playing a game, I got disconnected. As I closed this game, I discovered that Ubuntu was asking for the WPA key (it was already filled out correctly) There were no changes made in the network while I was playing. My brother and his girlfriend can both connect using their Windows 7 laptops, so the network itself should be allright.
My Ubuntu web server is left on all the time, sometimes I notice that it is disconnected from the network so I have to goto the server and re-enter the password in the network connections, this allows me back onto the network. Why is the server being disconnected? (The computer is running all the time because if it re-starts the terminal window is open on the screen). And how can I stop it from happening? It's got to the point where I need to check it every hour which really defeats the purpose of having it!
I am quite new to Ubuntu, so please give me easy to follow steps. So, I have just installed Ubuntu 10.10 x64, but cant get my wireless to work. It detects my networks and tries to connect to them - infinitely, whithout success.I have tried it on an unprotected and on a WPA2-personal protected network with the same results. My card is a RaLink rt3090.
I recently installed Ubuntu. I just installed ndiswrapper so I could install my wireless PCI card drivers
I did that and it is recognized and so is the network I want to connect to. But for some reason, it just wont connect. It will spend a long time trying to connect, but then just says "disconnected". It's not like I have a bad connection or anything. My internet on Windows is fast.
Since I have started to use Ubuntu 9.10, I have had multiple wireless connection troubles. First of all, it says the signal is 2 bars, when in fact my router is right next to me as of right now. Second of all, when I try to connect to it, it asks for my password 3 times, then says disconnected. I'm on a hardwire right now, it's across my keyboard, and I'm in a tangled mess.
Ive installed 10.04 on my laptop and notebook. It works perfectly on laptop. On notebook the problem is it finds no Wireless network and just says disconnected. I have no idea how to connect it, I tried reinstalling Ubuntu but no luck. I tried looking it up on internet but no luck in finding help. its an MSI U130. The wireless is defently turned on.
I have a Hp pavillion dv2000 and i installed Ubuntu 10.10 the wireless works really fine and fast until i decided to buy a windows vista and installed it, i didn't know that installing windows would affect other OS already installed, after installing vista I installed Ubuntu 10.10 again and the wireless wont detect anything and it would say on the wireless option 'discinnected' and the wireless led light stays orange instead of blue. How do I fix this problem??
I have successfully installed xubuntu on my 2nd partition of hard disk through unetbootin. everything works fine except wireless network. my ethernet works good, i am tethering through my android mobile no problem....just wireless says disconnected where as it is enabled. As far I know its sould scan all the available wireless AP near me and it should appear below wireless networks, and from there I should be able to select the AP which I want to connct...
My Ubuntu when i start it up, go to the wireless networks , try to connect to my network it trys to connect stops than says disconnected. My internet card is a Cisco Aironet wireless (idk the model number)
My first problem is that when I open KNetworkManager the wireless tab is desibled,I don't know why! My laptop is HP pavilion dv6-1245DX. How to get connected to my wireless router?
I am trying to do a command line installation.Finished the installation and my wireless card wasnt working.Did a "sudo ifconfig wlan0 up" and got it working. But for some reason wireless-tools is not installed thus I dont have iwconfig, iwlist, etc.The wireless works and connects fine off a liveUSB.So I am going to give info from this liveUSB run and maybe someone can suggest how I can set the right settings on the Command Line Installation I presume in the etc/network/interfaces.
This is not the common problem that's on the stickied thread. I'm able to connect to my wireless network perfectly. I switch between Windows to game and Linux for desktop, coding, and hosting, so I can tell it has something to do with ubuntu 10.10. When I'm connected to my wireless network, at random times, my internet begins to slowdown, then I get disconnected from the internet, but the taskbar says I'm connected. This problem only happens in ubuntu and not Windows for some strange reason.
The applications that are usually open do not cause it, because it still does it even though I have little applications open (Google Chrome, gedit). When I'm on Teamspeak 3, I notice my ping rises to the 1000s randomly, and I get disconnected. Once again that only happens on Ubuntu.
I was extraction some file through command line then I encounter on notification from winrar. This file exist what u want to do replace never quite I don't want that winrar will prompt me to choose action. Everytime whenever this situation occur it will overwrite / skip that file Syntax I am using for unrar rar e -pmypassword filename
