Code:

After doing that, it displays this:

Ubuntu Installation :: Copying Data Setup Tells About An Input/Output Error?

Dec 20, 2010

I want to install Xubuntu 10.10 x64, but it does not work. While copying data the setup tells me about an Input/Output error, but i don't think there are hardware errors.

The environment:

AMD Phenom II 1055t 6x2,8 Ghz
2x 2gb ram
Hitachi 1TB hard drive
Two partitions: 1st for Windows 7 Ultimate (NTFS), 2nd for my Data (NTFS)

So I decreased the size of the data partition and created two new partitions beside the Win7 partition and the data partition. The first is ext4-journal (20gb) the second is Swap (4gb). I've done that all by the Xubuntu setup.

I've downloaded the image from the german mirror (TU Chemniz) and checked the integrety via SHA1. Checksum was correct. I also checked the data after burning.

Debian Installation :: Testing - All Logins Fail / System Error Message From The Passwd Command?

Mar 18, 2010

I just installed Squeeze on an older PC. Installation seemed to go fine. But when it booted up on the installed system for the first time, I could not login - username/password failure. I tried every possible typing error and CAP LOCK error I could have made - still nothing.

I brought up a console window and tried logging in as root - same problem.

I booted into single user mode and entered passwd command to set new root password - I got a SYSTEM ERROR message from the passwd command.

I booted to a Live CD, went to /etc/shadow and deleted the encrypted password. Rebooted on the hard drive, went to console window and logged in as root, with no password required. So far so good. I entered passwd command to set new password and got the same SYSTEM ERROR message.

The machine seems fine when running on the Live CD, and the install seemed to go fine.

Programming :: Fortran OpenMPI-1.4.1 Installation / Compiling - Error Message Saying Mpif Not Recognized Command

Feb 4, 2010

I've installed openMPI-1.4.1 on my laptop and I'm trying to compile some fortran code I've written using MPI. I downloaded the openMPI-1.4.1 file from the openMPI website and used the shell script they provide to install it. This is the shell script:

shell$ cd openmpi-1.4.1
shell$ ./configure --prefix=/usr/local
shell$ make all install

There was an additional line extracting the tar file, but I did this by hand. The first time I ran this script there was an error on the final stage saying that a directory couldn't be created because of lack of permission. I decided to run the script again this time as a sudo.

Having run the script again everything appeared to install properly, however when I went to compile some fairly simple code I got a message saying that the compiler couldn't find MPI. I was using this command: gfortran messages.f90 -o messages I looked on the openMPI website where it recommends compiling with a compiler called mpif. However when I type mpif messages.f90 -o messages I get an error message saying mpif isn't a recognized command......

Ubuntu :: Error Message When Running Apt-Get From Terminal

Jul 9, 2011

After a momentary power failure My server did not reboot due to a disk error. I rebooted and ran an disk repair and the machine booted fine. Now if I got to the update manager and try to update I get the following error:

E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_lucid-updates_main_binary-i386_Packages
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

I checked the file location listed the file is there (hidden). Should it be a hidden file? If so how do I repair this error? I went to the preferences of update manager and changed the following, Updates every 2 days from weekly, Changed the server location from US server to main server. The update manager ran and updated 13 files. I don't know what change repaired my issue but a guess is, changing the download location from the US server to the Main server.

Ubuntu :: Error Message With Apt-Get Update Command

W: GPG error: [URL] maverick Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 2EBC26B60C5A2783

When I for example try to install the gcc I also get weird feedback:

I thought it was that they where already installed on the comp, however, the computer keeps telling me that gcc is not installed. I am not quite sure what to do. I am using the latest version of ubuntu (10.10).

I checked the /etc/ssh/ssh_config file and there was a command PermitLocalCommand commented out, but for testing I even totally removed that line and then in scp forced the use of that file via scp -F /etc/ssh/ssh_config ......

and I still get the same error. This command is nowhere is any of my ssh config files so im at a loss here on how im supposed to fix this!! I even checked my home directory for maybe a ssh config file that might be overridding the system config but nothing.

OpenSUSE Network :: Mount Command Gets Stuck With No Error Message?

Jun 25, 2011

I am using 11.3 on one machine and 11.2 on the other (a netbook). 11.4 won't install on either and 11.3 on the netbook fails to install as well.

I am using the same setup as I have always used when both systems ran 11.2 (details below) but now I can only mount a drive in one direction. In the other direction the mount command gets stuck with no error message until it eventually times out. I can ping and ssh the machines from each other without difficulty.

Even in the direction in which the mount apparently works (11.2 mounting a drive on the 11.3 machine) when I try to copy files across nothing actually happens.

exportfs -a was run successfully on the exporting machine, and nfsserver is running on both machines as does nfs client.

The exporting machine is 192.168.1.102 (eeelinux) and the other machine is 192.168.1.101 (nina).

Details:
The /etc/exports file on the exporting machine (192.168.1.102) looks like this:
eeelinux:/home/naima # more /etc/exports
# See the exports(5) manpage for a description of the syntax of this file.
# This file contains a list of all directories that are to be exported to
# other computers via NFS (Network File System).

Fedora Installation :: Anaconda Tells HD Need To Be Reinitializated?

Aug 13, 2009

Im actually using Fedora 11 in Dual Boot with VistaI used to have Fedora 11 and then I installed Ubuntu and it (and myself) screwed my partitioning, and Just linux used to run.Ubuntu wrote the boot sector over the NTFS like it was ext3.I tryed everything the get beck my windows partition booting.Reinstalled a Fedora 11 clean, to see if it could help me (thinking in reintstall it later).Using testdisk application I managed to have back access to my disks files, but no boot working. I tryed a lot of things in testdisk and Windows Vista Recorvery, with no work.

So I ran the Acer Recorvery Disks, that reseted my NTFS with Vista to a brand new installation from Acer. Now I want a Full Fresh Fedora Install from DVD but anaconda tells me (in pt-br): "Error in processing the disk sda. Maybe it would be necessary to reinitialize. YOU WILL LOOSE AL THE DATA IN THIS DISK."I really cannot reinitalize it becouse my NB have some recorvery partitions that I use to reinstall the windows to its factory settings, and Im scared of reinitalizing it becouse maybe it could just screw everything and make it not work as well, now with no OS running. The GNOME Partitioning Software just detect a full unpartitioned hard drive. I think the problem is that I changed the LVM to something wierd that anaconda dosent recognizes. Some hardware information (my fedora is in PT-BR):Quote:

dmraid -r
no raid disks
