General :: Unable To Install The USB_ModeSwitch - Unable To Connect Micromax 300G Modem In Debian

Jun 30, 2011

I couldn't connect my Micromax 300G modem in Debian Linux. From internet (in Windows Vista), I came across the information of USB_ModeSwitch and then I downloaded it. While going to install it, I came across the problem that TCL-interpreter is not available in Debian Linux. Then again I restarted my laptop in Windows Vista and connected my Micromax modem and from internet downloaded TCL8.5.10-src.tar.gz. But while going to install it, I came across the problem that " configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH " . Also as presently, I am unable to connect my modem therefore I am unable to issue the code:" apt-get update ".

Debian Installation :: Unable To Select And Install Desktop Managers In Net-install?

Dec 23, 2015

I downloaded and mounted debian-8.2.0-amd64-netinst.iso on my work machine's VirtualBox v5.0.12 to check out Debian stable/Jessie's installer and clean installation in case I need to do it soon. I like the new installer compared to 11/24/2011 on my old desktop machine. It is much nicer, fancier with its advanced options, etc.

However, I ran into issues with its "Select and Install" part when I selected desktop managers (e.g., KDE and Gnome) and continued. It failed as shown in [URL] .... images. Why? I tried again from scratch and same thing. If I don't select any and just select non-GUI stuff (e.g, SSH and standard system utilities), then it works but I want the pretty GUI stuff.

Debian :: Unable To Install Fonts

Aug 22, 2011

I have just undertaken my first install of debian after a couple years of using ubuntu. I used netinstall and have made a minimal install with wheezy and lxde. I am trying to install the ubuntu-font-family because it is so pretty!

1. I tried downloading the .ttf files, extracting them to a directory and using the program 'font-manager' (which I had used on ubuntu previously,) and it says they are installed but I can not access the font from any program.
2. I tried using fontmatrix, another graphical program. Same thing.
3. I tried installing the .deb package for the fonts after downloading from the ubuntu repos. still cannot use them. (but I can physically see the font files in the folder, same as with above methods.)3. i tried manually installing the fonts via the command fc-cache -f -v (after placing them in /usr/share/fonts, /usr/local/share/fonts, and ~/.fonts [none of which worked.]) After running the command 'fc-cache -f -v,' I run the command 'fc-list' and the fonts are still not in the list.

Debian :: Unable To Install Java On Lenny 5.0?

I guess I am still a beginner since I can't do this. I was able to install Java in another computer successfully. I have both running now. The successful one, had a folder for firefox the one with the problem does not have that folder, (firefox). The instuctions I trying to follow are here: [URL]

Not having a firefox folder I installed using /usr/lib/mozilla/plugin . But the plugin has an X attached to the respective icon in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins.

[URL] This website seems to offer the solution to my problem, I will need help in undoing my previous steps or in removing the incorrect plugin. But will I still need a firefox folder or directory as I have on the other machine? I have a K7S5A PRO MB and Athlon Xp 1800 + processor.

Debian :: Unable To Install Adobe Flash 9?

Jan 17, 2010

I am using Debian 5.0 (Lenny) upgraded from Debian 4.0 ( Etch). Being an upgraded install seems to make quite a difference in a number of areas as I am still running several applications which are no longer available due to lack of maintenance. I am running a number of applications that would simply not be available on a clean Debian 5.0 install.

I installed Adobe Flash 10 not from the Debian repository but using dpkg -i and the Ubuntu deb package from the Adobe website. The Flash version in the Debian repository was down level from the version I wanted installed. The install ran fine and the verification of flash in Iceweasel, Iceape, Chrome and the Gnome web browser all verified as version 10 on the Adobe web site.

Subsequently I discovered that Iceweasel was being misidentified as not running Flash 10 on a web site that required Flash 10. This was not happening with any of my other browsers. I looked in Tools/AddOns/Plugins in Iceweasel and found that Flash 9 and Flash 10 were both present. Disabling the Flash 9 plugin caused Flash verification to fail as if Flash were not on my system.

I did an apt-get remove flashplugin-nonfree which appears to have removed all traces of Flash 10. Now all of my browsers verify on the Adobe site as Flash 9 and work properly on all sites that require Flash 9 or lower. Looking in /usr/lib/iceweasel/plugins I see no flash plugin library at all. A Flash plugin library was in this folder until I did the above remove operation.

I do not understand how Flash 9 can be installed and operational and not have a library appear in the Iceweasel's plugins folder. Using dpkg -l as well as Synaptic I cannot seem to find a package to remove that would remove Flash 9.

Anyone know the name of a package I can remove to uninstall Flash 9?

Anyone know in what folder I might look for the Flash 9 library?

Anyone know if a fresh install of Iceweasel supports the automatic installation of Flash when visiting a web site that requires flash? This may well be how Flash was installed originally and part of the reason why I can find no reference to it in the expected folders.

Debian :: Unable To Install Packages / Dependencies - Jessie

Oct 8, 2015

I have been using linux for about a year and have run into a new problem I am unable to solve. It started when I attempted to install some packages I needed to get VirtualBox to run VMs. I am on Jessie.

I am unable to install various packages, including gedit, aptitude etc. I do not think it is a problem with my sources.list as my laptop has the same sources.list and I am not encountering the same problems on it. Packages will not install any dependencies. -f install isn't doing anything for me.

My sources.list...

deb [arch=amd64,i386] http://ftp.ca.debian.org/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free
deb-src [arch=amd64,i386] http://ftp.ca.debian.org/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free

deb http://ftp.ca.debian.org/debian/ jessie-updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.ca.debian.org/debian/ jessie-updates main contrib non-free

I tried to check for held packages with

userone@localhost:~$ dpkg --get-selections | grep hold

But get nothing.

sudo apt-get install -y

Debian Hardware :: Unable To Install Soundblaster X-Fi Soundcard?

Mar 17, 2010

I am a total Newbie in the matter of Linux installation and configuration and I just ran into my first major problem. I have a Dell XPS 720 with a Creative Labs Soundblaster X-Fi extreme Gamer Soundcard. But when I tried to set the Sound-Preferences, I got the following error message:"audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audiosample ! gconfaudiosink: Could not open audio device for playback."By now I know, why the system is unable to open the device, because during the installation of Debian (Lenny) the system recognized another "sounddevice", which is called SP2208WFP. That is my monitor with integrated webcam and microphone. And of course, it doesn't make a noise. So I have disconnected the USB cable to the monitor to avoid an automatic recognition (that costs me 3 important USB plugs) and I tried (now since 3 days) to configure the Sounblaster as the current sound device. But without success. lspci -v shows me, that there is a Soundblaster device:

02:04.0 Audio device: Creative Labs SB X-Fi
Subsystem: Creative Labs Device 6002
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 11
