I have unstable installed and wanting to play around with gnome 3 but I am having trouble. When I go to synaptic or terminal and try and install I can not find gnome 3. Here is my sources.list

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 and am running gnome desktop. I have tried to install Quantas Pro using Ubuntu Software Center and synaptic unsuccessfully. I see from researching the forums that it is possible but I need specific instructions. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I have read that I will need a lot of dependencies. How do I load the KDE dependencies with Quantas? I assumed I had not loaded the needed KDE dependencies for Gnome.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIn process of installing gnome have hit an error wall from dpkg too many errors. Tried increasing the allowed errors in dpkg.cfg to 150 and still get the errors. The errors now come up on any apt-get install.
ADDED: sent the output to file and the errors start with python2.5-minimal(2,5,43).
I downloaded and mounted debian-8.2.0-amd64-netinst.iso on my work machine's VirtualBox v5.0.12 to check out Debian stable/Jessie's installer and clean installation in case I need to do it soon. I like the new installer compared to 11/24/2011 on my old desktop machine. It is much nicer, fancier with its advanced options, etc.
However, I ran into issues with its "Select and Install" part when I selected desktop managers (e.g., KDE and Gnome) and continued. It failed as shown in [URL] .... images. Why? I tried again from scratch and same thing. If I don't select any and just select non-GUI stuff (e.g, SSH and standard system utilities), then it works but I want the pretty GUI stuff.
I installed Debian Squeeze-testing weekly build today, with CD1 alone. It took 1 Hour 38 minutes to install and configure on my Pentium 4 2.7 Ghz , 1GB ram HP machine. I have some trouble with the installation. Sometimes the desktop just freezes while moving Icons, or opening Xterm. I cannot use Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, OR Ctrl-Alt-Delete keys. I have to physically reboot. Why doesn't Ctrl-Alt-Backspace work on GNOME? Is there a IRC chat for Debian Help and what applications does one use on GNOME for IRC chat?

Due to some issue we had to format the server , now we are able to install centos 6.6 & kvm but not debian 7.6. We are installing via media, from where can i download debian 7.6 iso.
we are installing it on hp dl 360 g9 server, we are able to format the disk inside the kvm & after when it start copy the operating system it throws error & error is Installation Setup failed, try run the failing item from the menu, I have tried the following
1. Replace the media & checked same error
2. Realter the partion & checked same error
3. Tried to install with guided partion & checked same error.
I had downloaded Debian 8.2 (Jessie) below files all are checksum passed. During installation after the 'Select and install software' stage the process halts and unable to proceed further.

I have tried both DVD and CD (both are MD5-checked) of both Lenny 5.0.8 and Squeeze RC on my HP DV7-3074CA. (a.k.a 3085DX)When I choose a graphic install, it just hangs after loading the initial files.When I choose the normal install, It gives the following error:

Is there a boot command I can input to override this? I tried removing the battery slot, but the only difference is that that message does not appear, but the setup hangs anyway.

I cannot install gnome. It complains about swfdec-mozilla needing to be installed, I install it, and it now needs epiphany-extensions, which uninstalls swfdec-mozilla.
So there are conflicting dependencies. Could someone fix this?

I couldn't connect my Micromax 300G modem in Debian Linux. From internet (in Windows Vista), I came across the information of USB_ModeSwitch and then I downloaded it. While going to install it, I came across the problem that TCL-interpreter is not available in Debian Linux. Then again I restarted my laptop in Windows Vista and connected my Micromax modem and from internet downloaded TCL8.5.10-src.tar.gz. But while going to install it, I came across the problem that " configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH " . I've installed F12 twice now. After completing the installation and getting all the updates via YumEx, my network trouble begin after a reboot. I am not able to login as root under gnome so I can't see the services panel.
Tried to reinstall 'NetworkManager' after the fact but of course I have no network connections so I may have made the problem worse. I hate to reinstall and repeat the same troubles over again as it consumes a lot of time. I don't know where to begin.
When I run it live, I see KDE4. When I install it off the same disk, it installs Gnome. I can't figure out how to install KDE4. I had no luck with apt-get install kde4 (E: Couldn't find package kde4), no luck with aptitude, no luck with Synaptic (The following packages have unresolved dependencis kdebase-runtime-bin-kde4).

The iso I burned to CD is good (works on 2 other computers). His computer will not boot from USB, no matter what I do to the drive order in BIOS. After loading the blue screen with the Kubuntu logo on it (and the blue-white dots), the screen changes to black and shows the following text:

Primary concern: Installing Gnome 3 from a USB.
Secondary concern: I can't establish a connection to the internet via ethernet or my Wifi card. When I try Code: Select allping -c 3 www.google.com the output tells me 3 packages were transmitted and 0 were received. It seems to have something to do with my router (Arris) not being DHCP-endabled?
I'm currently reading a couple of books to try and learn how to use CLIs with Linux but I am still new and largely ignorant of how to do anything. I tried messing with Arch, that didn't work very well. I've been googling these issues but I can't figure anything out or find anything relevant. I've been using Ubuntu for a couple of years and have a basic understanding of Linux and I'm working on a basic understanding of computers.
As far as getting a .deb package onto a usb of Gnome or whatever desktop environment goes I think I can manage that by myself. I just have no clue how to actually install something from a USB, especially from a command line interface.

I run as root: Code: apt-get install gnome It takes about 2hrs to install but then as its doing it it removes vital packages such as x11-common, Xfree86, xorg-server. Then it cannot install anything else and whenever I try to run another apt-get install command to install say gdm, it says it depends on some of these packages but it is not going to install it. Also I find that gnome is not installed. So basically it removes vital packages, screws up the system and doesn't install what I wanted.So I reboot but then it cannot boot again into any gui desktop. I try apt-get but I cannot install anything like before. I need apt-get to really start using my computer/xbox.I found something that fixes the error that says I am unable to connect to non-us.debian.org when I run an apt-get update but I can't find the page:

At the time you boot from install disk, push tab and add the following word after boot options:desktop={kde|lxde|xfce}and Debian will install KDE|LXDE|XFce by default.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is a new system with Intel 3.2 E5800, Biostar c31m+ MB and Sparkle PCIe2.0 video card with Nvidia Geforce 210 chipset.As expected I did not have GUI after install, so I did as in the past as follows with other systems with nvidia chipsets.I inserted "nomodeset" in appropriate place in grub. Installed SMXI with no problems. Installed latest nvidia driver which failed, tried the default debian and it failed, then I tried one of the middle ones, it reconized my card and installed fine (according to SMXI)

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have gnome installed and want to install KDE as well to be able to run them both. As I understand from searching the web, I should be able to install KDE and at boot I will be able to choose which DE to start.
You are supposed to just run:
su [password ]
apt-get install kde
But I get dependencies errors, translated from swedish so it is not exact:
kde:
Dependencies: kde-core (>=5:47) but will not be installed
Dependencies: kdeaddons (>= 4:3.5.5) but will not be installed
Dependencies: kdenetwork (>= 4:3.5.5) but will not be installed
Dependencies: kdetoys (>= 4:3.5.5) but will not be installed
If I check kde-core the version is: 5:48. If I try to install kde-core first I get another bunch of dependencies errors... so I seem to go in circles.
I am running Lenny 5.0.7 amd64.
