Feb 25, 2011I installed debian squeeze on an old computer that I found. (Pentium 4 3.2GHz HT) I installed from the i386 version, but now the uname command shows that its an i686. I don't find many packages that I need using apt-get. Do I need to compile each package I need from source or use dpkg to install the deb of an i386 version?
Can I use the i386 version on this computer rather than the i686 version? Will it cause a signifncant performance decreaes? (I use this computer to mostly do some reading and writing and file storage, no gaming etc.) How do I force the installer to use the i386 version?

Aug 12, 2011 Im trying to install iseriesaccess for linux. I've had to use the i386 version and the 64bit says it has not 5250 emulator which is the reason im installing it. I have had a good look and cant get it to solve these dependencies. Has anyone else tried and got this working?

While i am execute this script i am getting the following message.
/usr/sbin/sendmail: No such file or directory
after searching some posts , i got to know that we should install an rpm file required for sendemail.
i downloaded the file from well known websites. and tried to install using rpm command
rpm -U --nodeps <rmpfilename> --force.
I am unable to install the rpm file, even i am not getting the error meesage on the prompt.
Is there any way to check why the rpm is not getting installed.or there are any pre requisites to install this send email rpm.
prior to this i installed mail rpm on th linux Box

Jan 8, 2010im trying to install ubuntu 9.10 desktop i386 version, but i simply cant do it! I have tried for hours now. I boot my computer, the cd-room boots, i choose language from the list and press install ubuntu, after that i see the ubuntu logo blinking and in few minutes it gets black and shows "Input Not Supported" and its just bumping around the screen! I had a feeling that maybe my monitor (ASUS) does not support ubuntu so i tried with a very old syncmaster monitor, but similar message appeared! What could be the problem?

I found an i386 .deb package online (made for ubuntu but it should work with regular debian), but when I try to install it, it says incorrect architecture, use amd64 version instead.
How can I force it to accept the i386 version of this package?

Mar 18, 2015I am having problems installing Debian 7.7 i386 on the newest HP DL380 GEN9 server with P440ar storage array. The disk detection during installation fails to detect the array.
I have pinpointed the problem to hpsa.ko driver to be outdated as I need a minimum version from September 2014. I have already tried following the guide on " [URL]" but the driver compiling from sources fails (guide is from 2012).

Is there any possible way to install this debian version with this storage array? Newer kernel version is really not an option for me.

Feb 14, 2010I have an HP EVO W6000 Workstation: Dual 2.2 Xeon Processors with 2 Gigs of Rambus Memory with 120 gig IDE HD and a DVD/RW IDE Burner. It is a 32bit Workstation. I just downloaded the 9.10 ISO of Ubuntu and created the CD. When putting the CD into the PC it will boot to the CD and the Ubuntu screen appears giving me the choices on how do I want to install Ubuntu but when I choose Install Ubuntu and hit enter nothing happens at all. It will let me boot to the HD but there is nothing on the drive. It is a clean HD with nothing on it. I'm not dual booting with another OS Like Windoze. I'm just want to install Ubuntu on this PC all by itself. I am using the 32bit version of Ubuntu since my workstation only supports a 32bit OS.

Oct 25, 2010I downloaded the DVD 32 bit and 64 bit as I have 2 machines, one 32 and one 64. After I burn the disks, I put the DVD in and run the check media. The 32 bit version says invalid checksums, cd is broken. I try to install and ever single checksum is invalid, not just one. But every file. The 64 bit says it has bad sectors in it. Apr 15, 2010Since yesterday firefox (Namoroka) has been constantly freezing; prior to yesterday it worked perfectly. I've tried un-installing and re-installing, but that didn't fix it. I even tried un-installing Namoroka and installing firefox 3.5 (via apt-get install firefox-3.5), but somehow I continue to get firefox 3.6 (aka Namoroka). Anyone know how to resolve my Namoroka issues or how to install the seemingly more stable 3.5 version? I don't know if this makes a difference, but I originally had installed ubuntu and then installed kde (kubuntu-desktop) desktop on top of it. And yes, I've checked my sources.list to make sure mozilla-daily repository is not listed.

Oct 2, 2010I'm attempting to install a command-line version of Maverick, from the alternate CD. I'm using the 64-bit version. The installation has gone fine - however, I'm having troubles getting the wireless to work. I've installed wireless-tools by carting the *.deb archive over from another computer - this seemed to go fine, and iwconfig shows my wireless card as "wlan0". However, even after setting the essid and the WEP key I can't connect to the internet (tested this using apt-get). I know that this wireless card requires the "rtl8187se" module, which automatically loads with the desktop version of Maverick - however, it isn't working on the command-line. Running "sudo modprobe rtl8187se" pings back an error message saying that the module can't be found. Is there a way for me to manually install it or "find" it?

Feb 1, 2010I have a desktop PC which initially had the Intel D946gzis mobo, its chipset as video controller, some RAM and so. There I installed Debian without a problem alongside WindowsXP.
I've bought an ASUS HD 4670 video card, installed it on the PC and now the installed Debian does not work, while the Ubuntu live CD refuses to run no matter if I set acpi, apic on or off... it throws me some low memory corruption at position just like shown here. With normal configuration, Debian throws kernel panic (keyboard lights blinking). Anyone have faced this before? Ideas? Thanks!! (meanwhile, debian hides in a virtualbox :'( )
Edited: Tried Ubuntu 9.10 x64 (due to the fact i've a core2duo at 2GHz) and it throws a kernel-panic to me (flashing caps and num LEDs). On screen, can be read different lines with things like:

Could it be something about this new video card having ddr3?
