I've been enjoying wireless for a long time on Squeeze (iwl3945) with KDE, but the recent network manager update stopped that. I've tried a few things, like going back to /etc/network/interfaces and ifup wlan0 that I use with Lenny, but still not working.
View 14 RepliesI am currently using Debian Testing, managing my wireless connection with NetworkManager and the Gnome nm-applet. Both have just been updated: network-manager from 0.8.1-6+squeeze1 to 0.8.2-6 and network-manager-gnome from 0.8.1-2 to 0.8.2-4.On installation of the new packages, I have no problems. However, on a reboot, I can no-longer connect to any wireless connection. I am not prompted on start-up for the password to unlock the Gnome keyring and when I left-click on the nm-applet icon and then click on a network to connect to it, nothing happens.I do not think this is a driver or NetworkManager daemon problem. If I run "nmcli dev wifi" or left-click on the applet icon, NetworkManager seems to scan for wireless networks properly and returns a list including the one I wish to connect to.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Sun grid engine running on a cluster of 6 machines running Lenny. Since Lenny will soon be oldstable, I tested an upgrade of one of these machines to squeeze. Almost everything is looking good except the grid engine client. Does anyone know whether gridengine-exec (6.2u5) in squeeze is compatible with gridengine-master(6.2-4) from Lenny?
I've purged and reinstalled the grid engine packages on the updated box, but the gridengine-exec daemon seems to crash when it attempts to contact the server. qstat error: failed receiving gdi request response for mid=1 (got syncron message receive timeout error).
I just updated my fedora 15 which, between others, included a kernel update. After reboot no wireless network is shown.

After the update was completed my LAN connection stopped working.. now i have to connect my computer to my router with a usb cable instead with my ethernet cable.. also, on the network connection, on the wired network section it says that the device(ethernet) has not been managed..

So I just installed Debian Lenny on my PC (the install went fine). After installing, I went into aptitude and noticed that most of the packages available in the repository are out of date (python 2.5, GCC 4.3). System Update tells me that I am up to date, and when I tell synaptic/aptitude to mark all updatable packages, it does nothing. I have tried typing apt-get update as root aswell. Nothing worked.
I installed Debian with the first DVD from [URL]. During the installation, I told it to download anything that wasn't on the DVD. Shortly after installing, I had manually edited my /etc/apt/sources.list and commented out the CD line. Could any of this have messed up APT?
I run a Squid 3 server that is acting as a web filter. It worked fine on Etch. The system stopped working properly due to two of the three SATA cables being bad. Before I figured that out, I tried doing updates. Since Etch updates were no longer available, I did a distupgrade to Lenny. Immediately, Squid stopped working properly. It would take up to two and a half minutes for it to respond to a web request and add it to the access.log. This was using the same configuration file that it was using before the update.
After I found the hardware problem, I did a clean install of Lenny. I used the basic squid.conf like I did on the previous system, only changing it to add my ACLs and because it wasn't saving an access.log to the default location unless I uncommented the path directive. Now, it won't respond to a request at all. Forwarding is enabled and the firewall seems to be set up correctly.
I've just upgraded my kernel to 2.6.32 and I cant use sound anymore!!! My card was detected ,here is the output of lspci |grep Audio

also frimware is installed ,gstreamer as well the sound is not on mute and it was working on the previous kernel .
The computer networking works fine with a normal static setup, but adding a USB wireless device is not successful. It is my own network so the wpa-ssid and wpa-psk are known to work with Lenny and a previous wireless device.The device is recognized (lsusb) and the driver is confirmed to be in the kernel (lsmod). Here is the iwconfig output:

I have just done a fresh install of Sid so that I could get the 2.6.35 kernel which contains the ath9k_htc driver for the USB wireless device that I am using. The firmware is ar9271.fw but my source of that is questionable because it does not seem readily available. I am temporarily using a PCMCIA wired connection which is what I am using to connect to the computer via telnet. (This is just for convenience so as to avoid getting up all the time.) Here is the ifconfig output:

That file works with the previous USB wireless device under Lenny. Am I doing something wrong or is the driver and firmware just not up to snuff yet?
I am moving over to debian from ubuntu, and the latest install is to an acer aspire one netbook, the wireless card seems to be working and I can see available networks and even connect to mine (with WPA encryption) via the gnome network manager, however opening a browser or pinging both local and external machines all fail. its as if the OS does not not know to use the card. The wired works fine.
If memory serves the card is identified by lspci as Atheros AR5007.
There is no reference to wlan0 in etc/network/interfaces.
I do not have that system on now and have to leave for work, but I can post any further info from conf files etc as required when i get home tonight... Just thought I'd post a quick description in case I'm missing something obvious...
I have b43 wireless. In network Configuration on system->administration the interface it appears as inactive it appers in hardware also as b43 associated to wlan0 but i cannot have access to any wireless network. What i have to do to put this b43 to work.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI ran my daily update of Debian Stretch using Synaptic, and when done had an un-installed update for ifupdown remaining marked in the list. By right clicking I was able to get Synaptic to say it would install the update, along with quite a few other updates. In the process of doing this, my screen went dark and stayed dark. On reboot, I get the Grub menu to select which Linux system I want to boot, but whichever one I choose, including older ones, I get to a command line, not the Gnome GUI.
I tried to complete the update of ifupdown using apt-get, only to discover that my machine no longer has any network connection, let alone Internet.
How do I begin to troubleshoot this?

ifconfig does not show the network devices:
ifconfig -a does show them, i ran the commands ifconfig eth1 up and ifconfig wlan1 up, which resulted in them showing when typing ifconfig, however both still are not working.
(ifconfig)Also eth1 is only showing an inet6 address not an inet/ipv4 address and wlan1 doesn't show any.
Checked the bios and noticed that network devices were enabled so i don't think its my bios.
Also ran a SystemRescueCd which i got from here: [URL] .... With this live cd, the networking was working.

I have just updated my Squeeze system. The update included a newer version of network-manager (and it can not be more than a few hours old). After the update all network functionality on my machine (via knetwork-manager) is broken. The GUI applet has no effect.
Hence can anyone help me: a) Downgrade network-manager by one version; b) Find out what is causing knetworkmanager to break; c) See if the problem is with knetworkmanager or network-manager.
For the past week or so, I've had my wireless connection disconnect and reconnect at seemingly random intervals. It can be anywhere from every minute to every hour, whether I'm using the network or not. I don't recall installing anything that could affect this. I'm fairly certain this isn't a hardware issue, since I haven't had any problems when using my Windows partition. I'm using a D-Link USB adapter (DWA-171).

My wireless network is down. I got thinkpad x120e, chipset: Realtek RTL8188CE, driver: rtl819ce.
Here is what I did so far:
upgraded to 2.6.38-bpo.2-686
installed firmware-linux-nonfree
Added the firmware file from the repo since it's not yet packaged in firmware-realtek and reloaded the module.
'iwlist sc' shows: 'wlan0 Interface doesn't support scanning : Network is down'
'dmesg |tail -20' shows:
rtl8192ce:rtl92c_download_fw():<0-0> Failed to request firmware!

Testing distribution. Installed Linux 3.0 but left 2.6.32 on as backup. When I boot into the old kernel, wireless mostly works OK, but never when I boot with the new kernel.

Noticing the Access Point looked like it needed the MAC address, I ran iwconfig wlan0 ap <MACADDRESS> and sometimes it will work, and wicd can connect to the access point. But sometimes the command fails to run.
I've been following this guide for squeeze: [URL] After getting the wireless-tools and firmware-ralink packages installed with no internet, I managed to installthe driver using modprobe rt2870sta (the 4th step). With the module loaded and the device plugged in (a RangePlusWireless Network USB Adapter with the WUSB100v2 chipset), iwconfig returned something like

I have a problem with my laptop Dell Inspiron 1525 wireless on Jessie Cinnamon.
I have installed the b43 firmware and after that everything seemed working but just for a few seconds.
I have tried to reboot and after that I can't browse the internet just for a few seconds and after that Iceweasel loading and loading and nothing's happening.
I can't surf on the net just with cable but the wifi setup shows everything is okay 95% signal strength and connected.
Also tried reinstall the firmware and reboot and it's all the same after.
I can easily use my wifi with my smartphone too.
I upgraded from lenny to squeeze on a notebook and I can no longer connect to the wireless network. The computer is an LG notebook and the network card is ralink rt2860. I am using Gnome and NetworkManager. The wireless key is WEP hex. It was working fine with lenny till before the upgrade. After the upgrade, the network card stopped working. So, I checked

Then I reinstalled the driver with apt-get install firmware-ralink wireless-tools Then the network manager tray started working again and saw the network, but cannot connect. It was trying to connect but timed out and kept asking for the password. It is the correct password. I tried deleting the old connection and recreated a new one in the nm. But still does not work.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI've installed Debian Sqeeze (stable) without XServe since I want it to work as my home Music Server (mpd) and print server (CUPS) but there is no sound. "speaker-test" does not outputs any sound from the integrated speakers nor the headphone line. On the other hand, the integrated sound card is being detected without problems. Alsaconf has been removed from Sqeeze so I wonder how could I fix this problem. I've followed dozens of threads in this forum and others, applying possible solutions but none of them seems to work.Do you know if the Test version solves this issue?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Xorg manually in Squeeze on my IBM X30 Thinkpad with intel graphics (it works in Lenny). I used aptitude and installed "xorg" and "fluxbox", but when I restart my computer I get a blank screen, instead of the console login request that I was expecting. (Note: I did not install any login managers). So exactly what happens is that the screen goes black (just backlight on)during boot process. Once I'm at the black screen doing CTRL+ALT+Backspac, Ctrl+Alt+Del or Ctrl+Alt+F[1-7] will not result in anything.
I tried booting with the single user mode, but same result, so the only way I could acess my log-files was by using a systemrescue-CD. What I find odd about this is that I cant find any configuration files at all. No xorg.conf anywhere in /etc, /etc/X11, nor in /home. I don't even have a /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d folder.Am I expected to write these by myself? And if Xorg is the source of my troubles, why is it starting by itself, without any installed login managers? Xorg not working is one thing, but not even being able to access the console, or log in to my computer makes it rather difficult to search for errors.
As the title says i updated my system which then needed a reboot. I also installed Mixxx djing software to try it out. So i thought id just restart the system. Usually when i boot into my desktop wireless automatically can connect to my router but not this time, wired only for now... i know theres tons of wireless issue threads but some more experienced users will be able to get straight to the point and run through some diagnostics with me.
