I have just exported 3 png files out of gimp for a html document I'm working on right now, and they are all almost the same, except I need each to load when the user does something. So the first image will display on the page, and when a user puts their cursor over it, then it will load image 2. When they press it, it loads image 3.

Using startx X loads but leaves it unusable, both mouse and keyboard don't work (I never use startx really as regular user but in root). The message is:

In my /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config I changed "allowed_users=console" to "allowed_users=anybody" and that doesn't work.

The title is rather vague because I haven't been able to identify the cause of the problem. I installed Debian Testing using the daily builds of March 6th and 7th with the same results: the system fails to load the Gnome desktop after the log in. Instead, a pale blue background is shown. No panels, no window manager, nothing. I can move the cursor but there's no context menu and the key bindings don't work, turning the session useless. The problem exists in all accounts, and persists even when the dot-files are deleted after the first Gnome start.
After trial and error, I found out that if I changed to a virtual console (VC1 to VC6) and go back to VC7 (sometimes VC8), the Gnome desktop loads as expected. The pale blue background is shown over/instead of the actual background and I need to cover ("paint") it with a window to show the actual one. This pointed me to a Gnome Session or a graphics card error. Indeed, if I disable Gnome Session, the Gnome desktop loads after the log in. Of course, no interface settings are set. I checked the Gnome Session's bug list without luck and the error messages in .xsession-errors aren't conclusive, for they appear in other cases.
About the graphics card: the video settings work (screen settings, 3D accelaration, recovery after suspend to RAM/disk) but Xorg's log shows several erros and warnings when setting up the system (mostly related to the video and touchpad settings). Right now, I'm building a custom xorg.conf file to try to decreases udev's errors and see if it affects the Gnome problem. I've spent hours trying to solve this problem. It's annoying to lose interface settings after closing the session (key bindings and brightness settings, for example).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a doubt about the Gnome default Image Viewer.It's because I edit my RAW images on RawTherapee, and then export them to jpg.When I open the exported pictures on the image viewer, it looks like has lots of noise.But when I open the same picture on Gimp or Iceweasel, the noises doen't appear.
So, the question is: which image viewer is wrong? Is Gimp and Iceweasel "fixing" the picture automatically, or Gnome Image Viewer is reading it wrongly and showing it with noise?URL...
I'm running Xfce 4.6.1 and xfdesktop 4.6.1.1 (or so aptitude said). When I use 'None' image option - just colour - I get the colour I ask for but if I change that to either 'Single image' or 'Image list' then both the image and the background colour are made greyscale.
I have tried looking through all the options I could find to do with Xfce and searching Google but I don't know how to phrase it as my searches tend to bring up black and white wallpapers.
Running X as a different user on the same computer does not cause the same problem which makes me think it might be cause by a user setting though I spent a long time with a black and white wallpaper and do not know when the issue first arose.
I used to have a working vlc. Then I added debian-multimedia to my sources.list and installed several other movie players (kplayer, kaffeine,). As a result, my vlc no longer works: When I run it to display a movie (any movie, I tried several) I get the sound OK, but there is no image, and the window stays small (like when playing a sound file). How do I get vlc to display movies again?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI upgraded the distro (Strecht - Testing) and the result was almost the same mentioned by mittgreen, when I boot the system it fails to load the X, ending in the "oh no something has gone wrong" screen.Now, the only possible way to use the GUI is to start it manually by startx command. Reading the Xorg.log I saw a "No screens found" error.

It'll just flash my wallpaper for a second and goes back to this blue-ish background and stays there, so the only solution I found was to just press and hold down the power switch, turn on the system again, and login again.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've had this odd, stubborn problem that seems to be related to the nouveau video driver and certain kernel builds: opening or saving full resolution jpeg image files using GIMP takes from 1-5 minutes and causes xorg CPU usage to reach almost 100%.This also occurs when using UFRaw to open Canon raw image files. The problem is not intermittent, it happens each time I open a file. Opening photos in the default image viewer works fine.This bug has vexed me on and off for the last couple of months, and seems to be triggered by a combination of kernel version and the Nouveau driver. I've got a desktop "konsole" shortcut that works great, it has a "konsole" icon on it that fits well.
I've copied this desktop shortcut to a taskbar shortcut (via drag'n drop).
The result is a usable shortcut, but with a wrong icon image.
I've reproduced the problem three times for different apps and obtained three times the same icon (but the shortcut is however good).
If I open the configuration popup, it displays the correct icon ...

I'm fairly new to Debian/GNOME, and I'm running Squeeze and GNOME 2 and I have some questions. How exactly do I change the background image for the login window? I've looked up various suggestions but none of them seem to work - the appearances window does not ever seem to change the background image for the login screen. Also, whenever I log out or when I close the lid on my laptop and it suspends, I am unable to log back in - all I see is a black screen and my cursor, which I can move.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am running squeeze on a PC 1386 and installed nvidia by using the packages in unstable. I was able to install nvidia and there was no error until the time I started X. The error is unable to load module "nvidia" (module does not exist, 0).
I looked up the log for Xorg and it says Unloadable Module "nvidia".
I spent the entire 24 hours to fix it because this is my office computer and I practically done all the stuff found in the forums. I already did nvidia-xconfig to no avail. I even edited xorg.conf manually and still it was not up.
I have some suspects however which are:
1. Different versions between kernel and nvidia (but since I did it the debian way then I should not have any problems).
2. Nvidia-glx is unusable in Squeeze, so does it mean I go for the unstable distro?
3. Or I miss something crucial on how I installed it?
By the way, I installed Nvidia because I am using a SAMSUNG 21' LED monitor.
After a fresh custom install of Squeeze I could not play any video. debian-multimedia.org repository is in my sources.list. Trying to play an AVI video with totem I get the message

Goal: Create a bootable USB drive that contains multiple DVD Isos. Upon boot, a menu is displayed that allows the choice of several OS installs.
Problem: I just can't figure out how to format syslinux.cfg to load my specified iso image. Here is semi sudo code for what I want to do with my config:
sudo syslinux config
label <any label>
menu label install SLES 10 x86
kernel linux
append <path_to_iso=/sles10/dvd1_x86.iso> autoyast=10x86.xml
code....
Googling tells you quite a bit about syslinux.cfg, but it doesn't reallyt tell you how to load specific file for installation.
I upgraded to jessie today and I am having problems with my background. When I log in, the background tries to start on the external monitor but then it fails to load. I can change the background in settings but it does not show up. The background just becomes black and I am not sure why.
