Debian Multimedia :: Graphical Application To View Logs On Remote System

Jan 16, 2015

I have a web server that hosts multiple websites. Am looking for an application that can be run on my workstation and makes it possible to watch Apache logs live.

It should have a tabbed interface. When I launch the application, it has to connect to my server and should automatically open all access.log and error.log files and display all changes in real time (similar to tail -f command).

Does anything like this exist?

I'm tired of logging in many times in Konsole and executing tail -f commands to see parallel logs.

Ubuntu Networking :: Remote Application Invocation From Win System?

Feb 23, 2011

I have installed a bioinformatics tool called Pathway Tools on ubuntu 10.10, and I'm trying to access it through ssh client from windows vista client system. my client is puTTY. I can run the terminal shell, and I log in and everything goes alright. However, when I run the program by typing the following:pathway-tools from the directory of the tool. just like I'm running it from ubuntu directly. I get the following message:

Code:
aibig@aibig-HP-xw4400-Workstation:~/pathway-tools$ ./pathway-tools

Enter name of X-window server to connect to (of the form HOST:N.M): You can ignore all the warnings, all my problem is at the last line. I searched the internet to know what does they mean by HOST:N.M value the shell requests, but in vain. I'm really a newbie to ubuntu, but I'm getting familiar day by day and I'm loving it.

Debian :: Remote Desktop View Video / Music Files - Lost?

Nov 8, 2015

My wife has taken over the desktop (ubuntu 14.04 LTS). I've setup a second wireless router, dedicated to the MAC address of my laptop (debian) and using ssh I can view my email (thunderbird), but I'm not sure what to do to view woodworking videos without downloading. So, do I need to setup tunneling, do I need to view the windowmanager or is there an way to run videos? Anyway I've come along way using HOWTo's with breaking debian. Not sure how to proceed.

Note: The primary wireless router is from my ISP.

Debian :: Automatically Start Graphical (SDL) Program As Root On Non-graphical Debian?

Mar 3, 2009

I'm not a Linux noob, but I am far from guru. I'm running a single board computer with a slightly customized Debian Etch (customized by the SBC vendor). No Gnome/KDE/X installed. My application is a control application which uses SDL (Simple DirectMedia Layer) to paint some basic graphics on the VGA. I need to run it as root because the application calls iopl() to access an IO port.If I run my application manually from the command line, life is sweet. From Googling around, I found http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/28, and hence I:1) Created a script in /etc/init.d2) Executed "update-rc.d scriptName defaults" to link the script into the boot sequenceAll very straightforward. My application starts at boot. But when I try to SSH/SFTP into the SBC, I get "Connection refused". So I can't manage the SBC anymore, and this is a big problem. I am not sure if it's relevant, but my application starts before the SSH daemon.My script looked like:

case "$1" in
start)
echo "Starting my application"

Debian :: System Logs Itself Out While Unattended / Stop It To Do So?

Jul 23, 2011

Well it turns out my system has logged out more then once on its own. I had the system updated and upgraded from 7-3-11 and it did this about once a week. On 7-18-11 I did a full update and upgrade and it logged out a few times in a couple of hours. It does it while I am away and the system is in screen saver mode. I used my partition clone and restored the system back to 7-3-11. Has any one else ever had such an issue?

So I've upgraded from Lenny to Squeeze, which has been a tadge more interesting than I would like, but there it is. But I've got one problem that is eluding me still. When I load up, but before login, my second monitor displays what I can only describe as a glitched-up memory of something it was displaying before, unless it has been turned off and turned back on again (as opposed to restarted), in which case it displays a very bizarre tiled image. I can't help but feel this is something obvious I've missed.

Fedora Servers :: Looking For Graphical-use FTP Server Application

Jun 20, 2009

What is a good Ftp server application (preferably with a GUI interface)? I would like something in which you may set a login password. Also, how would you login to an FTP server which is through a router, as the computer IP address will be assigned now by the router, right? Take Linksys router for example, don't they all assign IP addresses to network computers based on the router IP Address, 192.168.1.100, 192.168.1.200, etc?Since post above, I have installed vsftpd. I cannot figure out, as stated above, how to find the IP address to log into from offsite.

Fedora :: Setup Graphical Remote Connection To Laptop Via VNC?

Jan 22, 2011

Fresh installation of Fedora 14 x86-64 on Lenovo T510. I'm trying to setup graphical remote connection to this laptop via VNC. I installed vnc-server package and altered /etc/sysconfig/vncservers accordingly:

Code:
VNCSERVERS="2:awajda"
VNCSERVERARGS[2]="-geometry 800x600 -nolisten tcp -localhost"

I found Remote Desktop which opens vino-preferences and ticked the check boxes there. I started vnc-server and then I tried to connect to it from the same local host using vncviewer. I got no errors and the window with correct resolution came up. The problem is - that window is black and empty. I tried looking into Fedora docs but I haven't found anything useful there. I tried google and I found about 487693746874363 solutions and different ways of installing and configuring VNC server. I tried a few - none helped.

I wonder if there is a decent and consistent documentation about how to make remote desktop working in Fedora without having a real pain in the ass trying out those gazillion tweaks and tricks from various forums and blogs? After all Fedora 14 comes with that Remove Desktop thing available out of the box. Is it a real working thing or just a marketing Should I uninstall all the preinstalled VNC stuff and follow one of those painful instructions found on the internet from A to Z praying for it to eventually start working after all the magic is done and hours or days are wasted?

I'm pretty sure I've enabled all the things I should have. there a bug?(Incidentally, I had the same problem with Ubuntu 10.10 (with Gnome), and eventually found I needed an updated version of gdm. With X tunneled through a PuTTy ssh session I can display individual X windows no probs. Also, a VNC session is rejected out of hand.)
