Debian Multimedia :: Finding An ATI/AMD Gpu Monitoring Application?
Apr 24, 2011
I have searched but I couldn't find anything. I would like something small like a screenlet to monitor fan speed and temperature of an AMD 6970 gpu. So far I could only find for nVidia's products.

I just wanted to use a network bandwidth usage monitoring application. Scenario: I am using an EV-DO based USB broadband modem with a limited GB plan. For additional data usage they charge per MB. Currently I use either wvdial (mostly) or pon to start the connection. So if there is any network monitoring application which could log time used and data used for the session, it would be great. Actually debian has too many different network monitoring applications, But I am not sure which one suits well for this purpose.

I have all multimedia packages installed as the instructions of opensuse site (ffmpeg, libdvdcss, ...) and plus some others not mentioned there (gstreamer, libav ...).Recently I was watching a dvd in kaffeine but several times the video and audio had small stops of about one or half second. It even came to the point of skipping a bit of the video. I tried vlc and the same thing happenned up to a point where the video froze at all. Also in other dvd's, when I tried to watch the content of a menu option vlc skipped the first few second of that scene before playing it. I tried smplayer and the exhibition of video was perfect except by the fact that it don't recognize dvd menus and subtitles. All mplayer gui's don't recognize them.So what player available for opensuse is able to recognize menus, subtitles and at the same time play dvd movies without other problems?

For windows servers, we use System Monitor to monitor everything on the server from disk utilization, current connections, application pools in IIS, CPU performance, bandwidth, and others. Is there something like that for opensuse? My server is running apache and I want to be able to monitor the linux server in a similar way that I do Windows Server 2003. Preferably I'd like an app that will run from a win32 workstation.

I'm searching for something like crontab. but the action should not be executed at a specific time but after a file or directory change. I'd like to run some scripts as soon a new file is in a predefined directory.
A daemon / shellscript would be really great. Does anybody know something like that?

I have added apache application into redhat cluster. If the apache process failed, it will cause the service group fail over. I want to disable the application monitoring. I search throung Internet and it depends on the apache init script. If I change /etc/init.d/httpd status always return 0(success). THe service group will not fail over even apache failed.
However, I want to remain the application monitoring but stop failover. If the application like apache failed, I want Redhat cluster to try restart the application like 3 or 4 times. If restart failed, it will not failover.

Sometime back I installed cpufreq. Now while I know quite little about cpufreq, what little I understand tells me it can do two things :-
a. Give the user the capability to change frequencies - there is something called max frequencies and minimum frequencies and the user can play between them.
b. Show the cpufrequencies via the GNOME cpufreq plugin/applet.
Now while its able to show me the frequencies, I'm not able to find a GNOME or GTK front-end which I can use to set the frequencies. I did read a little bit about something called 'governers' which from what I learnt are something similar to profiles - as in you want to be conservative, powersave, ondemand and performance.
1. I'm looking for a Gnome-GTK CPU setting frequency GUI.
2. If somebody wants to share more info. about the whole cpu frequency thing that is also very welcome as I'm not really aware as to how can I do things a bit more intelligently so I'm able to get a bit more performance while not using much energy (can be done or cannot be done ?) but that discussion hopefully comes later after I've a tool through which I can do the same in GUI.

I am writing an Air application and I would like to have the app use the font indicated in Appearance Preferences.
A similar problem to this one :
[URL]
I do not have Gtk::Settings and I have looked in ~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/ but I do not have an interface folder and none of the others I opened have any font details.
I have tried simply not setting a font within my application but it is using a font not specified in the Appearance Preferences at all. It looks like Times.
Ideally I would like to be able to get this information from Ubuntu using a native process :
[URL]
get the font name of the Application font or would I have to write a script and call that from inside Air?
I have a default installation of Ubuntu 10.4 with Unity running on top of Gnome. (I think this is correct. I certainly can get Nautilus running quite easily and as I mentioned earlier I have ~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/ folders).
The brief is to get the application working on the default installation so I cannot install anything but the target machine I am using has got 'gconftool'.

I am trying to find an application with low dependencies ( not okular ) that i can use to book mark my pdf's and ebook's. I am reading tutorials and its driving me nuts not being able to book mark my position or key topics. It would be nice to have something to manage all my books. I am currently using evince and its ok. As stated above I need to make things more...well..readable. I currently use gnome. I dont want to switch to kde. Okular worked well in the past; however, once all the requirements are met its almost kde.

I have a multi-platform QT4 application and I'm trying to make it run on Debian 7.x. In this app I'm creating 2 QSystemTrayIcon 's and when I run this application on Debian 7.8 with Gnome 3 disabled both tray icons show up nicely in the notification area in the top-right panel. However when I have Gnome 3 enabled nothing shows up in the top-right panel and the tray icon shows up in the (hidden) bottom panel, but the problem is only the first one of my 2 tray icons shows up - the other one is lost.
I'd like to ask, whether it is by design so, that on Gnome 3+Debian 7.8 there can be only one tray icon per application? Or is it some issue with Qt? I tried also Ubuntu 14.04 with Gnome 3 and there both tray icons showed up nicely in the top-right panel.

I have a Mandriva server with a lot of documents (mostly in pdf format) on it. I want to be able to search on this server for certain documents, via the browser. Most preferably searching through the full contents, but a search on file name only would also do. When a document is found, it should be able to download it from the server, or view it on-line.

Seems like such an unbelievably basic question, but a day of google searches as well as directly on this site with key word combinations like "jessie gnome application launch" or "jessie gnome launcher" has only yielded one remark somewhere that the only way to get any kind of custom application launcher working on a gnome 3.14 desktop is to copy an already existing one from an older gnome setup, such as Wheezy.
I know gnome is a bit limited compared to many other desktops, but besides this I consider gnome in Jessie very good and just can't believe the ability to customize application launchers could have really been made completely impossible to do. This single omission alone would make gnome extremely lame in my view, so I sure hope that is not in fact the way it is.

On xfce I really liked orage, however on fluxbox I don't want to install all its dependencies (xfce4-gui, xfce4panel, +++) for just a calendar. So, I'm looking for a light calendar app that will allow me to store appointments. Ideally it would integrate nicely with fluxbox, so either launchable by clicking on the clock, or else mapped transparently onto the desktop just like conky. If it could work with conky that would be pretty ideal as well, and it must have the ability to send notifications (either by sound or screen) about upcoming appointments, reminders, etc.
I've seen xcalendar mentioned on these forums, but it doesn't seem to be in the repos anymore (squeeze). Also rainlender, though I don't like that it's not in the repos and has pro/free versions. Sunbird is an option, but kind of large and clunky for what I'll be using it for. Right now I'm thinking gdeskcal is my best bet, but I'm hoping others will have better ideas. If gdeskcal fails to impress, I may have no choice but to go with sunbird (aka iceowl) and perhaps use conky to display the calendar on the desktop, and make it launchable from clicking the clock on fluxbox. My mail application is claws, which has some limited vlcalendar functionality.

I have installed the latest version of aMSN (aMSN | Download aMSN software for free at SourceForge.net) which supports sending my webcam video. Unfortunately, it is unable to send my audio at the same time which is highly frustrating.
Does anyone know of a Linux equivalent of MSN which allows video and audio communication. I have tried Kopete, although the call feature button is inactive, despite having setup my webcam in this program.
I have also tried installing a program called qnext, though webcam and audio support between alternate different Instant Messengers (IM's) are not supported.
