Debian Multimedia :: Intel 945gm And Opengl Screensavers Are Slow?

Dec 19, 2010

When using the very nice opengl screensavers, rss-glx, etc. the screensavers are very choppy.I tried modifying my xorg.conf but still no go.Anyway to get the rss-glx screensavers to run at normal speed?I read online that Intel disable the hardware acceleration. This is a work laptop but I just wanted to see if I could get it going.

Debian Multimedia :: Unable To Use Screensavers With Intel 945GM/Squeeze?

Jun 10, 2011

I have a Dell D620 and I can't use any screensavers. Rather, no screensavers work. Just for giggles, I booted a Kubuntu 11.04 CD, updated the sources.list, installed rss-glx and was able to use the rss-glx and other opengl screensavers. The reason I say opengl is because those are the ones that I use but no screensavers work.

Ubuntu :: Can Run Compiz For Only One Monitor - Intel 945gm

Apr 10, 2011

I've been looking into this issue this whole afternoon, but I couldn't reach a definitive conclusion, so I decided to ask. Sorry if it's been explained somewhere else, I truly didn't manage to find it.

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 on a laptop with Intel 945GM graphics controller. My laptop's screen native resolution is 1280x800. When I'm using only that, compiz runs fine.

When I connect a second screen -- a TV with native resolution of 1360x768 -- it doesn't work because the virtual screen resolution exceeds the maximum 3D texture size [2048x2048].

Lowering the resolution of both screens until the total size is less than 2048x2048 works, but it's really ugly and sacrifices a lot of screen real estate.

My question is: is there any way whatsoever to make compiz run only on my laptop screen and disregard the other one? An even better solution would be to run two instances of compiz, one for each screen, but I'll settle for having it on my laptop screen only, if possible.

Hardware :: Can't Enable Compositing Intel 945GM/GMS?

Sep 23, 2010

The title pretty much speaks for itself. All options in Desktop Effects are greyed out and a docking application called Docky asks me to enabled composite effects for it to function properly.

I haven't made any driver installs or anything as I have a knack for breaking video configurations in Linux. Also this might have to do with the problem, I have no xorg.conf file for some reason. I did some searching around but that pointed me into installing packages that I already have :S.

With 11.3 I have the Intel 2D driver, but the 3D driver says "Unknown Classic (7.8.2)" when looking at the details through the My Computer icon on the desktop. I did some searching on these forums and google but haven't been able to find an answer, has driver support for the Intel 945 GM been removed because it's old hardware or is there just no driver in the repo's for 11.3 yet?

Debian Multimedia :: Most OpenGL Apps Crash My Laptop / What To Fix?

Jul 11, 2010

I'm running Debian Lenny with GNOME on a ThinkPad T43. Some OpenGL apps like the game Trigger run great, while others like Stellarium crash my system beyond recovery. I get a black screen, I can see the mouse cursor and move it at a very slow speed, but nothing else. I can't switch to a different terminal or restart X with ctrl-alt-bksp.

I assume that the problematic apps do not like the laptop's integrated graphics chip? Is there a way to know ahead of time what apps might be troublesome, before actually running them? I hate hard resets.

Debian Hardware :: Intel WiFi 7260 Ac - Slow Connection

Jun 27, 2014

I have search the web quite a while about issues with the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card. It seems plenty of people have trouble (or at least have had trouble) with it. I do have a working connection, device seems recognized etc, but it works only at a very low/annoying speed.I'm running Wheezy backports and I have firmware-iwlwifi ver 0.43 installed (from Debian testing).

Below is some system output
Code: Select all$ uname -v
#1 SMP Debian 3.14.7-1~bpo70+1 (2014-06-21)

$ dmesg | grep iwlwifi
[    1.784455] iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: irq 43 for MSI/MSI-X
[    1.809630] iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: firmware: direct-loading firmware iwlwifi-7260-9.ucode
[    1.809713] iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: loaded firmware version 23.214.9.0 op_mode iwlmvm

I'm not sure why modinfo iwlwifi only lists firmware iwlwifi-7260-7.ucude while in dmesg you see iwlwifi-7260-9.ucude loads.

Debian Multimedia :: Intel HD 4600 And Two Monitors (DP And DVI)

Apr 17, 2016

I have the following situation:

- Intel HD 4600 and 2 Full-HD monitors (Dell IPS, same model)
- left DisplayPort, right DVI
- Debian stretch with Linux 4.4.0-1-amd64
- XServer X11R7.7 and Cinnamon 2.8.7

… and the following problem:

When I restart the system or login after Standby, usually (not always, but often) some strange green and red pixels appear on the monitor which is connected via DVI. I can remove them by changing the display settings and restoring the extended mode again. However, most of the time the XServer crashes by trying to enable or restore the dual monitor mode (although I’m still able to start a new instance of X from another tty). The XServer also crashes every time I try to enable the extended mode from another situation.

I’ve already tried the following:
- connecting both monitors via DP (no pixes, but also crashes)
- swapping the monitors and using different cables, assuming a hardware problem first (no change)
- VGA instead DVI (works, but inelegant).
- blacklisting i915 or using the xforcevesa boot option (neither of them works, i915 starts though)
- using the nomodeset boot option (detects only one monitor and produces a fallback in software rendering mode)

Debian Multimedia :: Compiling Intel Atom Poulsbo GMA 500

Jun 17, 2010

The intel <Xorg> driver provides 2D and 3D support for Intel integrated graphics chipsets, including the i810, 915{G,GM}, 945{G,GM,GME}, 946GZ, 965{G,GM,Q}, G33, Q33 and Q35; the <GMA 500> is not supported.

Packaged for Debian as xserver-xorg-video-intel. [url] [url] [url].

Poulsbo is the codename of Intel's second-generation ultra mobile PC chipset. Its GMA 500 graphics core is not supported by the intel Xorg driver; ITP xserver-xorg-video-psb filed as Debian bug #533450.

Poulsbo (chipset) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - [url]

Poulsbo's graphics core GMA 500 is currently not well supported by Intel for the Linux platform.

However there is a quite easy way to have the drivers work on any Debian-based distribution, thanks to the Ubuntu sources and packages, for the linux kernel 2.6.30 (with newer kernel it would need a little hacking but seems still possible while the sources are included).

Debian Multimedia :: DisplayLink USB Graphic Adapter With Intel I915

Jun 6, 2014

I'm trying to set up an HP DisplayLink USB graphic adapter on Debian 6 to be paired with the notebook's integrated Intel i915 video card. I use a custom 3.11.1 kernel in which the options for VGA arbitration, fbdev framebuffer and DisplayLink driver are enabled as built-in, not as modules.

The device works and I'm able to correctly run an X session on a DVI monitor connected to my notebook thru this USB graphic adapter. However, I'm still not able to use both the DisplayLink device and the integrated Intel i915 at the same time under X, with the purpose to extend the desktop area over the two screens, side by side.

During a boot, if the DisplayLink adapter is detected over the USB cable, the X-server's Intel driver is repudiated as shown in the logs below, and the main notebook's screen stops working with X. (nonetheless, it still functions on the "Alt-F1" text terminal).

Relevant portion of /var/log/Xorg.0.log
In particular, it shows: [ 2509.084] (II) UnloadModule: "intel"
